2025 Draft at week 2.
- Let’s take RB and IOL off the table as potential premium picks for various reasons
- WR. Take away Pickens and it’s without a doubt the worst WR unit in the NFL and very well may be the worst with him as well.
- QB. Probably too early to make a completely fair broad analysis but the unfair surface level quick take is the Steelers need a FQB
- I get the feeling the Steelers D is a player or two away from being able to get the best of the top QBs enough to make it a real game late. Is that player(s) a CB SS ILB DL OLB ?? Idk. They need some premium talent however
I’d like to see the Steelers go QB WR with 2 picks in the first 3 rounds

I think we might have some different opinions about this team and this defense after next week. Chargers have a very solid run game AND an elite QB. They also have a HC who isn't a dumbass.SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 12:06 am- Let’s take RB and IOL off the table as potential premium picks for various reasons

I fully expect to drive to the Burgh next weekend, and again watch the Chargers beat us. The last time was when they signed something like three O- linemen the week of the game and embarrassed us.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 12:09 amI think we might have some different opinions about this team and this defense after next week. At the very least, I won’t have to listen to my wife’s fat and ugly step sister cheer her Chargers on this trip.

Herbert limping around badly after the game.

Well nobody is luckier than Tomlin in getting to face backups so I won't be surprised if Herbert doesn't play.K_C_ wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 12:42 amHerbert limping around badly after the game.

Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”
Depends on where they’d drafting if it’s around 15-17.
No trade up for a QB.
1.WR
2.DL
3.RB
4.DL
5.OT
6.WR
7.OC/OG

I guess it depends how many potential FQBs are in the draft ??
I thought Fields played well in the first game and the beginning of this one. As the game wore on it sure seemed like the defense was beginning to dial in on him and his weaknesses.
I mostly liked Kordell when he was here. I genuinely think if Gailey had stuck around long term Kordell and the Steelers may been able to develop into something close to a Lombardi contending unit. But the Steelers refused to make that happen and we all know how Kordell ended up.
Fields pretty much seems like a Kordell type to me
Enough impressive tools to pull out some exciting wins but not good enough to slam the door on Lombardi level teams most of the time
Wilson ?? Who knows ?? But the book on him says he’s on the downside of his career and so far that’s been confirmed in the little we have to go on
George Pickens is the best player on the team and 1) the Steelers do everything possible to lessen his impact with the offense they’ve built and choose to run and 2) there is no way the Steelers are gonna pay him anything close to what he’s worth. Truthfully I’m his agent and he merely continues to perform at his current pace Id feel duty bound to at least having a discussion about sitting out next year in a pay me or trade me scenario. There is absolutely zero real scenario where this current Steelers team is good for a top talent WR
I say all that to say this
As of right now the Steelers don’t have good talent at QB …..AND……except for Pickens…..they have the worst WR group in the NFL
Soooooo……where does that leave us ??
Absolutely backed into a corner on draft day at WR
Absolutely needing AT LEAST one or two top tier defensive pieces on draft day
And oh by the way we also need a FQB
Among other things…..
So. Trade up for a QB ?? I’d rather not but it wouldn’t bother me because we are already a borderline bottom 3rd team in the NFL that needs a QB.
I think in that position you just keep going after prospects until one hits. Worse case scenario you are the same 7-10/10-7 team you are now

A reminder: Chiefs were picking in the 27th slot when they traded up to 10 for Mahomes. Get it done.

Outside of Patrick Mahomes, Watt is arguably the second best football player on the planet.
Nobody's talking about starting a team.
TJ Watt is the best player on the Steelers team by such a wide margin, it would take miles to find the next guy.

So, if I wasn't assuming we're now committed to mediocrity (and silly chants) with Frieiermuth, I'd put TE higher on the list considering the offense, but I'm assuming we are. This is a pretty nice looking RB class and it'd be cool to dip in at some point. I like Elliott at SS, and it looks like Jackson could work out at CB2. Have to see how NCB plays out. DL seems obvious. I think they think they're set at ILB/OLB. So...
QB
WR
DL
RB
TE
NCB
OT
QB
WR
DL
RB
TE
NCB
OT
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...

QB as long as its not Sanders
Still think Tomlin is going to like Sanders a lot more than most of us will be happy about.

It’s not so much Sanders the QB, it’s the circus that’ll be pulling into town with him. I can’t see Tomlin’s ego being good with Daddy Prime as the new face of the organization.

Kordell was a mentally weak choker, perhaps the most mentally fragile QB I have ever seen. He would fold under the slightest adversity and fall apart after his first mistake. I think Kordell is overrated and never would have amounted to anything.SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 6:09 amI guess it depends how many potential FQBs are in the draft ??

I don't understand the "Fields as QB 1" drum beat. His two games combined make one decent game for a top 15 QB. Sure, he hasn't had any turnovers, and the team has won inspite of him, but so what? People said the same thing about KP. I'm ready to see what Wilson has to offer, but I think QB is a dire need. Fields makes a decent back-up, but he's no franchise QB. It's like when Tomczak (another OSU and Bears QB cast-off) was the Steelers' starter for awhile. Just a dead end.
