Premieres tonight at 7pm for those that are interested. I will be watching it.
In the words of Steelers President Art Rooney II, it was a 'magical' time.
The 1974 season when the Steelers won Super Bowl IX.
The Steelers are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Super Bowl IX and that season, and Steelers Media Productions is bringing you the full story.
'A Steelers Story: Dawn of a Dynasty' will premiere on Tuesday, October 15 at 7 p.m. on steelers.com and the Steelers YouTube channel. 'A Steelers Story' looks to provide in-depth profiles on Steelers players past and present as well as other unique Steelers stories.
While the 1974 season was a magical time, there were definitely some hurdles to overcome.
The road started off rocky when training camp was impacted by a players' strike, keeping many veterans away from Saint Vincent College for a good portion of the summer, while rookies reported and got to work.
There was turmoil at quarterback with Joe Gilliam, who reported to training camp with the rookies during the strike, starting the first six games of the season over Terry Bradshaw. Bradshaw eventually took over, but as he shares in the video, it wasn't the easiest sailing for him.
But it's not always about how you start, but rather how you finish that matters.
And the Steelers finished on top, culminating with a trip to New Orleans for Super Bowl IX against the Minnesota Vikings.
Steelers legend Rocky Bleier narrates the story of the 1974 team, which includes exclusive interviews with Mel Blount, Terry Bradshaw, Joe Greene, Donnie Shell, John Stallworth, Lynn Swann and Art Rooney II.
"It's hard to believe it's been 50 years," said Steelers President Art Rooney II. "Some of those memories are still pretty fresh, pretty strong.
"It was just a magical time. The determination those players and coaches had was unlike anything I had ever seen before and maybe since."
Here is a link to You Tube for anyone that wants to watch @7pm October 15th 2024.

These dudes are probably furious at what this franchise has become. It's flat out sickening what's tolerated under Art II

I’m really fucking tired of the Steelers 1970s
I was there. I lived through it. It was great. The greatest team in NFL history.
It was 50 fucking years ago
How bout we try doing something now ?? How bout we take some huge upside risks now ?? How bout we move on from projects quicker now ??
Reminiscing doesn’t get me another Lombardi

That is a Munster Rooney and Tomlin issue.
It's now ingrained that safe = continued success

Yeah the Steelers in the 70s were the best ever but that doesn't get Rooney off the hook for 40 years of garbage ownership before that, including the habit of trading away HOF QBs.

And forty years of garbage before that.
Steelers didn't do jack shit when it was an 8-16 team league, a time when it would be much easier to pile up titles like the Habs and Celtics did.
In their 90+ year history, they've had one golden era (70s), one silver era (00s) and two tarnished bronze eras (90s, 10s) The other five eras including the last five years have been poor to average.

@stillthere Good post, thanks. Yes, many of us lived through this time and it will be good to pause a moment and remember and reflect the good times that started up 50 years ago. Recent times have been a little tough, but still there have been a lot of good football played by the Black and Gold over the years. Damn man, things like this make me feel even older though. Thanks again for the tip.

Best I can do is 9 wins and a 22 year NHALS streak
