#1: Ever hear of something called the Rooney Rule? No fucking way Deuce shitcans the first coach to benefit from it for a couple of 4-12 seasons. Deuce would never do that to one of his father's signature contributions to the sport. Not for as long as he's alive, regardless of the fannys in the seats, or # of Pitt jerseys sold.

 OK, I see how it is...

not sure what you mean there TB, but I don't think Tomlin was hired only because of the rule. He got the interview because of it, and his performance during the interview is what got him the job, not his skin color, if that's what your emoji is implying. I thought that was common knowledge, but maybe it ain't.

Yeah that tank for the next franchise QB strategy has worked so well for Cleveland and Jacksonville and Washington for decades (Ok Daniels looks promising but he will get figured out with the right side passes and lets see how he adjusts).
The right side passes image was #fakenews. Dude is legit. Sees the field well, good accuracy, moved well enough, strong arm.

These next few weeks are going to be REALLY interesting. You have to assume it's going to take 2-3 games for Wilson to shake off the rust. But they are probably banking on defenses playing scared not knowing what the offense will be with Wilson. It's worked before, so it's actually not inconsistent with "Ballz to the NHALS". Then if and when they go back to Fields, defenses will again be scared not knowing if the offense will be different from what it was with Fields early in the year.

I don't know if the offense is going to work better with Wilson, or even be called all that different. They want to be a run-first team and I don't see them deviating from that even based on the opponent.

I do think they don't feel Fields is a guy they can win playoff games with. There's always a chance he could win a WC if the defense isn't boat raced like it has been. But maybe Wilson gives them a chance at being a legit contender, so that's why you roll the dice.

But if we drop 2 of 3 while Wilson is shaking off rust things will get interesting as Tomlin's sweaty nhals start feeling the heat.

I think it could be that they don't believe they can win playoff games with Fields OR they guaranteed Russ would get the chance to start as soon as he was healthy.

Remember, Russ WAS the starter once he was signed and Pickett was traded. Russ was literally told he was the starting QB. Russ didn't sign with the Steelers believing he'd be a back up so I'm not sure Tomlin has much of a choice right now.

Nobody is saying that Fields is John Elway Jr., but he was winning which is really everything.

If Russ goes out today and lights it up, then the Steelers are Super Bowl contenders. If Russ goes out tonight and throws 3 picks, looks rusty and the Steelers lose 34-10.......oh boy.

Jay Glazer on what Mike Tomlin told him about QB decision to go with Russ: "He said, 'Look, I went Lone Ranger on it.' Because TB [Terry Bradshaw], you're not the only one who was against this. There's a lot of people inside that organization who were as well. And he said, 'Look, if it doesn't work out, I'll take the heat. I'll shoulder the blade, no problem.' He said, 'The reason why I did this is I knew I had two quarterbacks going into camp that are very capable, but I wanted to see both of them before I made a long term decision. Well, I haven't seen the other one. I want to see at least what I have from him, exhaust all options and then make a decision down the stretch.' It's really not quite, though. It's about competing for a championship. And the [very] poor man's Lamar Jackson isn't doing anything in the playoffs that LJ hasn't (which is nothing).

If you can't win a championship with Fields then he's not the guy. It's that simple.

Right now, there is really only 1 guy playing you can "win a championship with."

Patrick Mahomes.

Who else on in the NFL has won one that I'm missing?

Brady has retired. Nick Foles has retired. Maybe I'm missing somebody.

I guess Stafford. He's the only other one I can think of and they aren't having a great season by any means. Might be fire sale time in LA.

Yeah, this tells me they guaranteed Russ the chance to start and I have no problem with that.

He came into camp as the starter and Fields didn't do enough to cement the job.

That said, I still think Fields scores at least one TD today on the ground because I don't believe they are going to risk Russ's old bones on any sneaks or short yardage plays and possibly not in the red zone.

We won't see any designed QB runs with Wilson.

Is that a direct quote? Maybe he actually gets it this year. Almost exactly what Kodiac outlined as the smart way to go. I'm really interested to see how the O is called with RWilson in there. If it's the same, or very similar to what we saw with Fields, then his comments are probably his typical bullshit.

They aren't going to bail on the run game, however, if they do open up the pass game more, Tomlin might really mean it.
