Walterfootball has PS drafting Jalen Milroe #1
I would only be slightly less upset than if they drafted DJU from Florida State #1.

Also, Travis Hunter is def numero uno and I don't care if the team needs a QB.

I can't imagine Milroe as a first round pick after how he looked this year. Think he ends up in that Malik Willis area.
*roots for losses*
Some draftniks love those athletic QBs that can't pass. And some want really want Milroe to be a 1st round pick because they said he was. In his current state, I would not touch Milroe until day 3. Just watching his game vs Oklahoma settles it for me.
I will add that PFF has Milroe as their #1 QB this year. Yet another reason to hate him.

Milroe’s best move in my mind is to return to Crimson Tide next season. Play for a Heisman, compete for a National Title, collect NIL, improve his draft stock.
The college game has much more use for him next season than the pro game. See Jake McCarthy. His current ‘Bama teammates need him more than an NFL squad next year. See the 2024 Michigan Wolverines.
This is an easy decision from how I look at it. But I am just a fan, and do not have to concern myself with injury risk. Milroe is in the running for my favorite potential QB prospects, and he could eventually be a fit for the Steelers.
No reason to make the professional leap next season though, unless the 2nd year coach is anxious to get his own guy in there to put his own stamp on the team.

Be nice if the draft coincided with Black Friday if this turns out to be the case this year.

Milroe already said he's returning, didn't he? If so, dodged a bullet.

You and me both. Why draft Milroe when we already have Fields. This would be a terrible pick

We do not have Fields. Or Russ, for that matter. No one is signed for 2025 or beyond. Even Kyle Allen is an unrestricted free agent after the season.gojira5150 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 3:27 pmYou and me both. Why draft Milroe when we already have Fields. This would be a terrible pick

Lots of former high draft pick young guys going to be available next year, Mac Jones is the one that intrigues me the most.

I'd be shocked if the team didn't at least have a quick discussion about Cordarelle Patterson running the single wing. I've seen Milroe to the Steelers on several mocks and I think it's a much more realistic pick than people think.
I would love to keep Fields in Pittsburgh and watch him develop under Russ. Wilson loves Fields and vice versa and they work well together. Fields has said that Russ is mentoring him and helping him develop as a passer.
Still, as many expect, Fields will likely go somewhere (Cleveland wold not shock me in the least) where he has a chance to start. If that happens, a guy with Milroe's skill set would look mighty fine behind a 37 year old Russell Wilson. I don't know if Milroe is as fast as Fields but he definitely runs with more power and like Fields, Milroe has a cannon for an arm.
Milroe has also shown the ability to have touch on his passes better than Fields did at the same juncture of their careers, thus Milroe probably has higher upside.
Again we're probably going to need a QB that can develop behind Russ and a dude that can win you a few games. Milroe very well could be that guy. If the Steelers could somehow trade back in the first round and get Milroe and a WR in the second, I'd be all for it. Use your third rounder on a d-lineman who can be a major part of the rotation and find a RB soon after and this team could be headed somewhere.

I used to read walterfootball quite a bit, but then all the popup ads made his site non functional.
Anyway, looks like Walt has stopped archiving his mock drafts, but if you jump back to this time in 2022 he has Tanner McKee and Will Levis as top 10 picks: https://walterfootball.com/draft2023archive1214.php
Take any pre-combine mock draft with a huge grain of salt.

I don't think B2B believes Fields will come cheaply, because there are teams out there that will very likely give Justin Fields an opportunity to start. Zero doubt Fields will have offers from teams that will, at the very least, allow him to compete for a starter's job.gojira5150 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 10:41 pmWhat I meant is, why draft Milroe when we can resign JF who has played in the NFL.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 3:36 pmWe do not have Fields. If Russ keeps balling, that isn't going to happen in Pittsburgh.
We need to remember that while Fields has warts, he's still as old as Kenny Pickett was when he was drafted, runs like a fucking deer and has a cannon for an arm.
I do not believe Fields sees himself as a career back up....yet.

Teams with zero interest in signing a QB to start this offseason:
Chiefs
Chargers
Broncos
Bengals
Ravens
Bills
Dolphins
Patriots
Texans
Jags
Cowboys
Eagles
Commanders
Vikings
Packers
Lions
Bears
Cardinals
49ers
Rams
Seahawks
Falcons
Bucs
Teams that have high draft capital or lots of money tied up in suspect starter that might sign someone for a QB competition
Browns
Colts
Panthers
Titans
Saints
Teams that are taking a QB with top 2 pick (Sanders and Ward most likely)
Raiders
Giants
Teams that will be looking to sign a QB or draft one or both:
Steelers
Jets
QB's hitting the market:
Sam Darnold
Russell Wilson
Justin Fields
Mac Jones
Zach Wilson
Trey Lance
Jameis Winston
Jimmy G
I just don't see there being a big market for any of these guys except for Sam Darnold, just not enough teams looking for a new QB this offseason.

Money. If you’re signing JF to be your starter, it’s going to cost you. A lot more than you’re thinking right now. Like $40M/per. Once Daniel Jones got $40M, hard for a team to argue a starter should be paid less.gojira5150 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 10:41 pmWhat I meant is, why draft Milroe when we can resign JF who has played in the NFL.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 3:36 pmWe do not have Fields. Some of the teams you have listed in “no interest” have QB issues. Miami has the Tua concussion issue. Rams have Stafford’s age. JAX would ditch Lawrence if they could find a taker. Seahawks might be looking to upgrade.StillerDownSouth wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 12:15 amTeams with zero interest in signing a QB to start this offseason:

But ok even accepting your point that there aren’t a ton of teams desperate—starting QBs are still going to sign for market rate. The main question is: where are Russ and Fields going to be in the pecking order for most desirable out of that bunch?
Russ is an easy #1 and Fields at least #3, and maybe more for a team that values an “athletic” QB.
I'd say the buzz about Darnold right now is mostly because it's perceived that he can be had on the cheap. Pretty sure it's not going to be that cheap. I'm with B2B on this, I think if you want either Wilson or Fields, you're going to be paying in the 35-40 (Fields) or 50+ (Wilson) range for them, and if you're evaluating whether or not to re-sign, you should probably have those numbers in mind. As this thing plays out, I'm less and less confident about either alternative. Term is going to be an interesting issue with either guy, too, considering they're both going to want some security and neither is the long-term answer.
Shame the draft is basically a two horse race at the position. Better luck next year on that.

Fields is basically what mitch trubisky was before the steelers signed him ‘to be our starter’: someone a team could think can help them keep their rookie QB on the bench for a few extra weeks “bridge QB’).
There is 0 chance on this earth he gets $20M/year from anyone under any circumstance.

I get your point about Miami, Jax, Seattle and the Rams, but they all have an expensive QB on the books, don’t really see any of them moving on next year, if they did they would have to get creative with money.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 11:43 amSome of the teams you have listed in “no interest” have QB issues. To me, Miami is in the same boat as Cleveland & New Orleans albeit for slightly different reasons. Cleveland and NO have played cap games for too long and it's time to pay up. Miami is just up against the cap ceiling and Tua's contract contains too many guarantees to get out of. None of these 3 can sign a QB without gutting their roster (I don't think New Orleans could even do that)StillerDownSouth wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 3:55 pmI get your point about Miami, Jax, Seattle and the Rams, but they all have an expensive QB on the books, don’t really see any of them moving on next year, if they did they would have to get creative with money.
LA keeps Stafford at least thru next season. After that, they can move on with (relatively) little penalty.
As mentioned Jax would require a blockbuster trade to move Lawrence.
Seattle can move on from Geno fairly easily. Would only be $13m in dead money next year if they cut him.

I agree. JF is going for a big C2$ and I don't blame him. If I was him, I would not want to be a back-up either. If JF goes to a team where the HC is offensive minded, he will be a scary QB. My point is, why draft Milroe, another Alabama player with crazy talent around him (Najee Hello) that will struggle in the NFL. IF we had a HC who believes in offense, I'd sign JF over RW. Since our HC hates modern offenses, RW will be signed to probably a 3 year contract while also being 36.K_C_ wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 11:19 pmI don't think B2B believes Fields will come cheaply, because there are teams out there that will very likely give Justin Fields an opportunity to start.
