You have to assume Tomlin is operating on a limited time
Huh?

“Tomlin has more job security than the pope”

Dude has all the time in the world
I understand that sentiment

But he was given a three-year extension, including this season

Art actually came out and said we need playoff wins

I think Tomlin‘s time is nearing the end, barring significant playoff victories

You have to know that Rooney hears what people are saying, from other football people. I believe that he recognizes the deficiency. And while he really likes Tomlin and is terrified of change, he’s not stupid. He understands the exact position this team is in.

Of course, this could just be hopeful thinking

Where they are picking they could get a pretty good WR or a really good DL.

Given Tomlin’s schemes, the D line is significantly more important, imo

Plus, as previously stated, rookie receivers aren’t going to provide much help

You’re better off finding a legit complement receiver in FA

unless it’s a true franchise QB that consistently bails the O out on 3rd and long … it really doesn’t matter who they draft. unless they can draft a new HC … forget about it

standard is the standard and it’s all on Tape

So we are going to draft heavy on defense when we have the most expensive D in the NFL? First off, no way do you keep paying Minkah $20 million! FOR WHAT? A deep CF safety that makes no big pass breakups, gets no picks, no sacks on a safety blitz, forces no fumbles? Such a joke. There are probably 100 dudes that could play that role out there. Next up, rid the dead weigh like Montraveous Adams and Loudermilk. Move on from always hurt Larry O. Cam Sutton…..bye bye. So yes, get younger and cheaper on defense.

Draft at least 2 big time playmakers on offense. A WR and a slot guy, speed guy. Sign a vet WR and sign a vet LT. Draft a young OT and OG.

I draft

DL
WR

OT
DL
OG

Gonna need a RB.

Frankly, I try to find someone as explosive as Warren but with a little more size.

No more power backs.

I'd probably take that RB with your third round pick. The rest of that draft is fine by me.

The tricky thing with WR there is, as always, a lot of 6' or less WR and not many 6'2+ wr that can actually catch the ball. They will have to spend a 1 or a 2 on a WR to get a decent one.

This draft is very very deep in RB and DTs. They could get quality DTs on day 3. Decent RBs on day 3 but I think a lot of them go day 2. Personally, I would wait on getting a RB. They have Warren and could get someone like Devin Neal on day 3.

Day 1 could easily be a WR unless a really good DT fell to them.

Warren OR Harris are good Robins.
And that's the issue in a nutshell, there is no Batman RB who defenses fear. If you're a DC, who are you most concerned about? Pickens.

No one else can beat you with a long distance strike.

I actually disagree. Warren was GASHING the Chiefs whenever he was on the field and columnists, TV analysts and even the guys in the booth yesterday all but said when Warren was on the field the Steelers offense was dangerous and when Najee was on the field, the offense was stagnant.

Warren has now established himself as a starting level, dangerous as fuck NFL back. Problem is, we have nothing behind him.

The good news is Najee is history and Patterson won’t be back. They will look for another Warren type player and there are a shit ton of RB’s who can power ahead for 3 yards when you need it.

Maybe Warren by himself is a Robin but if you find another guy just as dangerous and explosive as Warren in April, those 2 Robins are actually going to be better than 1 Batman.

Don't get me started about Warren's use yesterday. He turned the momentum around on that drive and the subsequent drive. Then Wilson throws the pick.

Guess who is out there the following series after that sequence? It wasn't Warren.

I really like Warren (and think he should have been starting this entire year). But he's got a couple things against him:

1) He's got known fumbling issues
2) He's yet to prove he can be durable for a full season

That is why he's a 1B guy and always will be. For a team that WANTS to run the ball as much as we do, we don't have the horses to execute it. Stop me if you've heard that line before.

Agree overall but if you have 2 runners similar to Warren and find some plodder for short yardage situations, the Steelers backfield is 100% more dangerous than it is now.

Will Warren fumble more than Najee? Yep but I’ll take that risk when you see how the offense grinds to a halt with Harris in the game.

Also, maybe the next speed back we find can be a Willie Parker type (let’s remember that both Warren and Parker were UDFA’s) who isn’t much of a fumbler and can be effective in short yardage situations. Parker had something like 15 TD’s on the ground one of his years with the Steelers.

Sure, these guys will not be as durable as a guy like Harris and I 100% couldn’t give a shit less. If they get hurt, look for the next speed back, rinse and repeat.

Warren has changed my mind about the kind of RB’s the Steelers should roll with full time.

When you game plan to be in one score games a fumble here and a fumble there really kills you.

It’s why Jibbs lives in his fears hasn’t featured Warren over Harris.

If you have a big boy offense that moves the ball and scores with consistency you don’t need to worry about the occasional turn over nearly as much.

They didn't extend Najee and he would not have been expensive.

That's telling.

They'll re-sign Russ and no matter what happens this year, Russ will have Pickens, a #1 or #2 draft pick WR, along with Calvin Ausitin III, Roman Wilson and then a guy like Skowronek or Van Jefferson to throw to next year.

It will probably be more like a guy like Skowronek since he plays teams.

At RB, Russ will have Warren, a #3 pick RB and who the fuck knows to hand the ball off to or throw screens to.

The o-line will also look very different too. Fautanu will be back and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see him at LT and Brockerick Jones at RT.

Jones simply isn't a LT and he'll never be one.

Soooo if they didn’t extend him and he’s on the way out the door why placate him by still featuring him over Warren?

I get that they didn’t pick up his option.

So why hasn’t that translated to you know, the games?

Because Tomlin…

He’s not a RT either. So if he isn’t a LT (as he and the team keep saying he is) then you need to draft one.

I’m far from convinced that Fautanu can even play T in the NFL with his short arms.

Feel his best position might be LG.

Zero confidence Jibbs or the dipshit they have as oline coach will figure t out.

If Brod Jones doesn't develop into a quality starting tackle, the he's a bust of at least Devin Bush proportions.

If Fautanu also doesn't develop into a tackle, then that's two huge 1st round misses in a row by the "Khan artist". Not great.

I'm not sure Jones has put together a string of games yet as good as Bush's rookie year pre-injury, so barring a minor miracle, he's technically a bust of greater than Devin Bush proportions.

How about an "if you'd drafted Jamain Stephens or Tom Ricketts in the top ten, trading up to do so." level bust?

That's grim. I wonder who was in the room urging the Steelers to move up for Brod?
