I wonder if things will be the same or better.
Or worse.
Or worse.
"We, as an offensive collective were off today, and certainly, he's a component of that,"
I mean, we all know how this is going to play out. Barring Fields all the sudden having a light bulb moment, the team is destined to the same fate... but probably worse.
Also, I think we all realize, aside from the fans not showing up, the only thing that will expedite the Tomlin departure, is if the team really sucks.
So I'm all for 1-15 Lets suck for the 2026 QB draft class
And completely predictable just like the schemes they run on both sides of the ball. They do what they do.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/12EsmEmFgVk/?
Lots of invective on this post about Coach being hired in 2007.
"We, as an offensive collective were off today, and certainly, he's a component of that,"
Gross incompetence.
Oline coach should be fired.
Defensive coordinator should be fired.
Fire WR coach as well for no other reason than Pickens dogging his routes.
Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 84 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.
OLine Coach should be fired... but... and this is important, how much of the blame falls upon the shoulders of the individuals mandating that drafted players, play out of position?
Defensive Coordinator- they definitely need a change, but we all know the real DC is the HC. Austin is just the mouthpiece.
Receivers' Coach- much like the other assistant coaches, how much of the issue falls upon others?
-Would Azziani have benched Pickens, if Tomlin let him?
-Would the receivers have gotten open more often, or better separation, if the play calling wasn't so repetitive and rudimentary?
We almost never saw receivers breaking open as result of being schemed open. Every play was, "go out there and beat your coverage", and typically some basic route designs that every opponent was aware of walking in to the stadium.
So, I do agree change has to happen, but we all know that until the HC changes, nothing else matters, because he controls essentially everything.
My gripe about no coaching changes, is, imo, this is not only a continuation of status quo, but in all likelihood, almost no fundamental changes regarding strategy or otherwise.
Noll's final season(s) Art and Dan mandated Coordinator change, and that those Coordinators change the way the schemes were being designed.
This, (No Change in any Assistants) says- keep doing what you do. We're fine with it.
Which is just bullshit.
I know the logic is a bit off, but I guess I'm saying, I was hoping ARII would mandate Assistant changes, for actual change, even if he wasn't willing to fire the HC.
Oh fucking well.
Above all else. Nothing is more indicative than organization laziness, incompetence or both.
Last year we were looking for the OL and Meyer to take the next step. It was like groundhog day taking half the year to round into form, again.
Seems like he's being given a pass for injuries last year? Why? Many teams deal with that and overcome it. And they were garbage pretty much out of the gate and never really improved, except for a brief mirage of a stint against bad defenses.
Meyer is not the guy. No excuse for not moving on. OL is critical, and you can't fix the offense without getting better OL play. Tomlin's solution is more mobility at QB, as if that solves the run blocking or is even an optimal solution.
It amazes me, that Munchak is still sitting on his couch. I'm sure he doesn't particularly want to work with mediocre Mike, or maybe in any assistant position, but he is by far the best OLine coach we've had under Tomlin..Kodiak wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 3:23 pmAbove all else. if more players he had come out, then the target on Tomlin gets bigger and Rooneys will get more bad light, which is needed“The standard is the standard” has been the mantra of the Pittsburgh Steelers organization for decades. It used to mean something, but like many fans of the team, a Steelers legend agrees they’re now pointless hot air.
“It’s not what you’re used to. The standard is the standard. It feels like a saying now. It’s not something you actually see,” James Harrison said on the Jan. 22 episode of Willie Colon’s “Why Willie Show.”
This isn’t the first time the two-time All-Pro has called out Mike Tomlin and the Steelers front office.
Last year on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Harrison was vocal about lowered expectations for the storied franchise.
Harrison believes Tomlin is largely to blame for Pittsburgh’s five-game skid and eight-year playoff win drought.
“If I’m the head coach of a football team, and I’ve been the head coach of this football team for however long that’s been, and now the team’s not doing well — that all has to fall on my shoulders,” Harrison said.

'Don't Know That They're That Close:' Legendary Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger Says Pittsburgh Has No Chance In Near Future
Roethlisberger spoke to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac recently and painted a sad picture regarding the state of the franchise. He believes that the beloved "Steelers way" has disappeared.
“It feels like there’s no ‘Steelers Way’ anymore,” Roethlisberger told Dulac . “There’s still guys who have it, but it doesn’t feel like it. It frustrates me to watch it happen.”
One of the few players that might still have that approach is the longest-tenured Steeler in Cameron Heyward, but Roethlisberger is spot on. This was evident when it seems as if some guys weren't going all out in a Wild Card loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The former first-round pick detailed that Pittsburgh isn't necessarily close to hoisting another Lombardi.
“It might be time to figure out what you’ve got to do for the next couple years to make a run,” Roethlisberger said to Dulac. “I don’t know that they’re that close, to be honest.”
Roethlisberger is insinuating that the organization might have to make a knowledgable decision to tank, or at least accept a losing season or two in order to gain better draft positioning. Picking in the late-teens or 20s is unlikely to generate a franchise-altering draft.

Friking exactly“At what point are we going to stop having our OLB crash down and let them play backer force?” Harrison wrote on X.
We watched it all game long, and all game long, it didn't work. And all game long, they made no appreciable adjustments

TJ has been complaining, too. Someone said PIT needs to start moving him around like other teams do with elite EDGE guys, "even if TJ doesn't like it".
I read that like TJ doesn't move around because TJ hasn't wanted to. Which is yet another example of Tomlin just enabling guys rather than challenging them and getting buy-in to be their best.
There's no proof that's true, but it fits. Surely this coaching staff isn't THAT incompetent that TJ wants to move around for better match-ups, but they refuse to do the obvious?

25 free agents this off season.
Question marks at: qb,rb,ot,wr2,wr1,nt,cb2,nickel cb
Games against det,minn,gb,@ben johnson cb,buf, @bal,@clev,@cin
I really think the wheels are going to fall off in '25. There will be more pressure on Rooney to get rid of Tomlin one way or another.
This would sync nicely with the '26 draft being held in pitt.
New coach and a draft with potential franchise qbs.
Call me an optimist.

I wonder how willing TJ will be to re-sign. He's a FA after next year, and never winning a playoff game seems to be weighing on him.
Money, especially guaranteed money, talks. But I have a feeling TJ won't extend if Tomlin is still here. Which means, since Tomlin is coach for life, they should look into a trade.

He gets to what he wants every play regardless of its efficacy
And there was just an article quoting TJ about how great Jibbs is and how “Hard knocks doesn’t even begin to show how important Tomlin is to the franchise”.
Made me sick.
Watt & Scam Heyward are part of the problem here. Yes men to the end that bow at the alter of King Jabber.
So tired of hearing Scam say what needs to be done after the fact all the damn time. How bout before hand Scam??
Scam is the mouthpiece in the locker room teaching these guys the “Steelers Way”.
Ummm he’s teaching them how to be losers and accept mediocrity.
Ya sure Scam, you’ll get things ironed out next year.
Riiiiight.
You’ll get your shit pushed in like you always do.

Correct. I was mostly going off a few quotes about TJ after the game appearing to be upset with the plan and lack of adjustments. Could have just been heat of the moment, but I think that sticks. Of course he's going to toe the company line, especially after having a few days to cool off.Professor Half Wit wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 10:13 pm

I still believe TJ will asked not to be tagged, and they will grant that. And he will take a LONG hard look at other teams.
Which begs another question: After 8 years of getting the doors blown off in the playoffs, when they make it, exactly WHAT kind of FA is going to want to come here to play for Tomlin? Certainly not anyone that wants to win a championship.
Coach Mike is working himself out of a sot at the HoF, a few years ago he would have gotten an entire new wing built with a fifty-foot tall bust complete with a big gold cross and aviators.
A few more years of this garbage people that vote will have many others to consider and he'll pale by comparison.
He's stuck around too long. Allowed himself to become a parody of what he pretended to be for many years.
His SB win was 16 years ago, with little to show since then and buried in a tomb of mediocrity.
He has to know this. The players that have been turned into scrubs must know this deep down.
Any of these guys going to the HoF? TJ is a long shot and getting worse.

Now with every season and every myth being exposed he’s not going to find himself there

Check out Joe Klecko, who I didn't think was in. TJ does have more PBs and DPoY. So he does have a shot, lost his luster these last few years though, imo.
