With the 208th pick in the 2025 Steeler Fury Mock Draft, the Denver Broncos select…

Luke Lachey, TE, Iowa

Image

Hawkeyes TE Luke Lachey is the latest in a storied history of Iowa Tight Ends. While not as heralded as his predecessors, Lachey showcased natural hands a willingness to mix it up as a blocker, and exemplary tenacity, earning Comeback Player of the Year in 2024 following a season ending injury early in the 2023 season. In keeping with one of a few key traits that the Broncos tend to monitor in their drafted players, Lachey was also named Permanent Team Captain in 2024 for his outstanding leadership. Two points of interest? Lachey lettered in high school in football (WR, TE, and DB), basketball, and track, and... his father laced up the cleats for BIG10 rival, Ohio State.

Welcome to Broncos Country, Luke!

1.20 - Jihaad Campbell, LB, Alabama
2.51 - Kaleb Johnson, RB, Iowa
3.85 - Terrance Ferguson, TE, Oregon
5.149 (Trade DAL) - Tez Johnson, WR, Oregon
5.174 (Trade DAL) – Nash Hutmacher, NT, Nebraska
6.191 - Woody Marks, RB, USC
6.197 - Andrew Armstrong, WR, Arkansas
6.208 - Luke Lachey, TE, Iowa

With Nelson, Atlanta continues to bolster its trenches.
The prospect has 50 career starts in the Big Ten, where he saw a lot of zone and gap principles scattered throughout the offense. He is versatile and play nearly anywhere along the line.

Atlanta has drafted:
1.15 Mason Graham, DT, Michigan
2.46 Xavier Watts, S, Notre Dame
4.118 Jared Ivey, Edge, Ole Miss
7.218 Jack Nelson, OL, Wisconsin

Pittsburgh has spent a lot of money and effort in building oldest and highest-paid defense in the NFLK. But they have skimped for years and years at the Nickel CB position. They lucked into Mike Hilton when Senquez Golson failed out, but then refused to extend him or pay him, instead renewing him at the lowest league salary while he was making tons of plays a starter for them. Since then, it's been a parade of limited athletes or outside guys trying to play inside, or safeties playing NCB--- when they got a favorable matchup for Bean Bishop last year, he played well. He's a competent option at times, but top end speed and man-to-man coverage skills are not his forte, and the Steelers tried to replace him with a player so bad on and off the field that his teammates had had it with him by like week 11.

So, NCB was a priority going into the draft and even though we did[t choose one early, we felt confident the situation would be as it is: we find ourselves in round 7 with a PLETHORA of choices for prospects at the position. We have big ones, fast ones, little ones, big hiiters, sticky coverage guys, safeties who can cover-- all types. I chose the one who I think is the most versatile playmaker available. He spent 4 years at the FCS level, becoming arguably the biggest defensive star in team history, then transferred to Power 4 and had an outstanding season--part of a very good secondary, which had the soon-to-be #1 Overall pick this year stymied.

He has very good cover skills, played inside, outside, and at safety, is an excellent, dependable tackler, a good blitzer, has ball skills, and... oh by the way... ran 4.38 at his pro day AFTER I decided he was the right one for the versatile role that is quickly becoming one of the most valuable in the NFL. Maybe the real Steelers will figure that out someday.

With the 229th pick––our last––the Pittsburgh Steelers select:

Marcus Harris, CB, California via Idaho
