Feeble offense
Lost in the win yesterday (which honestly should have been a blowout for NE if not for an insanely lucky number of TOs) is that the offense was extremely feeble. Did they even break 200 yards of total offense? What is going on with all of our supposed weapons on offense and A.A. Ron Rod Gers at QB?

My best guess is that after seeing Aaron get hit repeatedly in the 1st game against the Jets, Coach T with all his wisdom has reverted back to extreme turtle ball, get the ball out fast, etc...you know basically his roots.
Or this is the offense you paid for. A bad version of Marttyball.

Jibbs has always just seen the final result and used that to determine if his plan was successful.
We had a W so game plan was good.
We didn’t have a losing season. So the plan was good.
A bounce here and a bounce there. Our plan is solid. Just need those bounces.
Rinse repeat.
This team stinks. Should have lost big yesterday.
Had that been Brady & Billichick we would have lost by 30+.

The playcalling has been abysmal for years.
The unwillingness to use the middle of the field for an intermediate passing game has been mind boggling. It actually seems to work on the rare occasions they try those routes. Yesterday when AR hit Jonu on the 3rd down play during the 2nd TD drive, I foolishly hoped they'd realize the crossing routes could be effective with our current weapons. Of course Arthur Smith and company had no intentions of trying something so successful again.
As we continue years of complaining about the play calling, I thought it was interesting that we're not alone in being disgusted about an overly conservative offensive plan. Apparently the Iggles players want to open up their offense too. Although they are 3-0, each game has been awfully close and 2 of their stars want to quit taking their foot off the gas.

This offense is a joke. Zero identity, zero star talent, zero threat to most collegiate defenses.
What more can we say about the Super Conservative, Risk Adverse, Close to the Vest, Attrition, Living in Fear prep/playcalling?
Minnesota is going to be down some talent along their Oline but I expect zero drop off.
I expect the defense to be out schemed, out played and ultimately embarrassed into submission.
That Chargers game where they literally called guys off their couches comes to mind.
The only consistent with this team is the unrelenting disappointment and extreme frustration.

What team was calling out plays before they happened?
That's still happening, isn't it?

I know this has been discussed umpteen times...but why exactly do the Steelers of the 5 years hate using the middle of the field so much? Is it risk aversion to interceptions?
I definitely think risk aversion is part of it. Interceptions are roughly twice as likely in the middle of the field vs outside. But, MoF passing is more efficient even when including the extra turnovers. Tomlin is trading efficiency for risk aversion to the detriment of scoring points.TimmayLake wrote: ↑Tue Sep 23, 2025 2:41 pmI know this has been discussed umpteen times...but why exactly do the Steelers of the 5 years hate using the middle of the field so much?
