Why hasn't Austin been Fired already.....he's a complete FAIL

Post by DumlinBumlinStumlin » Mon Oct 27, 2025 3:57 pm

Why hasn't this incompetent been fired? As like Canada, Tomlin can hide for a little while longer but if Rooney had any balls (he doesn't) this should happen by end of today.

A history of doing nothing but FAIL he's a bit of a hanger on, pass on, put on pretend of a coach in a fail and pass up the chain kind of guy
Coaching career

Austin then began a career in coaching, landing a position as a graduate assistant at Penn State in 1991. In 1993, he accompanied fellow Penn State assistant Jim Caldwell to Wake Forest where he served as secondary coach.[2] Austin went on to serve on the coaching staffs at Syracuse and Michigan before joining the Seattle Seahawks' staff in 2003, helping Seattle advance to Super Bowl XL in 2006. FAIL

He joined the Arizona Cardinals coaching staff as coach of defensive backs in 2007. In 2009, he helped the team reach Super Bowl XLIII, where the Cardinals would lose to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Super Bowl. FAIL

On February 12, 2010, it was announced that Austin had been hired as the defensive coordinator for the Florida Gators.[3] His tenure as defensive coordinator ended following the Gators' 37–24 victory over the Penn State Nittany Lions in the 2011 Outback Bowl, and head coach Urban Meyer's resignation in December 2010. WHO CARES

On January 26, 2011, it was announced that Austin had been hired as the secondary coach for the Baltimore Ravens, and helped lead them to a Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers.[4] WHO CARES

On January 16, 2014, it was announced that Austin had been hired as the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions.[5] With Austin calling the defensive signals, the Lions finished second in the NFL in points against and total yards against, leading the franchise to an 11–5 record and wild card playoff berth. Following the end of the Lions season, Austin interviewed the Atlanta Falcons, Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears, and San Francisco 49ers for vacant head coaching jobs.[6] Austin was scheduled to interview with the Denver Broncos but withdrew from consideration.[7] In the 2015 NFL season, the Lions record fell to 7–9 and the defense dropped to 18th in total yards against and 23 in total points against.[8] Despite this, Austin was still considered a top head coaching candidate and interviewed with the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans.[9] Austin later said that he felt of the jobs he interviewed for following the 2015 season, that he felt that only two were "...like a legitimate job interview. Like I had a legitimate shot at the job." When asked if he felt the other interviews were just to satisfy the NFL's "Rooney Rule," he did not disagree with the statement.[10] Following the 2016 NFL season, Austin interviewed with the Los Angeles Rams and San Diego Chargers.[11] FAIL - DEI VICTIM STATUS AFFIRMED

After missing the 2017 NFL playoffs[12] the Lions fired head coach Jim Caldwell.[13] Following Caldwell's dismissal, Austin interviewed with the Lions for the vacant head coaching position.[14] PASSED OVER

On January 11, 2018, it was announced that Austin had been hired as the defensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals.[15] On November 12, 2018, Teryl Austin was relieved of his duties as defensive coordinator after the Bengals defense became the first in NFL history to give up 500+ yards in 3 straight games, against the Kansas City Chiefs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and New Orleans Saints, respectively. FAIL BIG TIME

On January 8, 2019, it was announced that Austin had been hired as the Senior Defensive Assistant/Secondary for the Pittsburgh Steelers.[16] On February 9, 2022 he was promoted as the defensive coordinator for the Steelers after the retirement of Keith Butler.[17] HINDING UNDER COACH CLICHE, HUGE FAIL

I digress but i am not pretending here, Rooney's and the Steelers ARE

I keep telling people: they don't fire coaches, they let their contracts expire. This way, Cheap Ass Rooney isn't on the hook for paying people that don't work for him.

The lone exception is Canada in the past 20 years. It's not a coincidence. And that only happened bc he was becoming a national meme.

Austin will be the designated scapegoat this offseason so that's another reason he won't get canned.

He is who Tomlin is going to throw under the bus this year...that's why.

Even though Tomlin runs the defense.

1 tweet won't make Rooney blink.

Tap me on the shoulder when they start chanting "Fire Tomlin" or "Fire Austin" during Penguins games.
Canada memes were also cropping up in games where the Steelers weren't playing.
It hasn't reached national media fervor yet. Only then, will Tomlin or another coach be in jeopardy.

Because Austin isn’t the defensive coordinator, Tomlin is. Austin is just a yes man in charge of Tomlin‘s mess.

I think Art Smith is more likely to leave this sinking ship vs be fired/not have contract renewed. Believe they like his work since it meshes with Tomlin's risk aversion.

It's pretty hilarious that the guy who is "not comfortable in shootouts" has a "historic" defense that's given up 30+ in 7 straight games.

i dont disagree that its a match made in heaven or that Smith may be smart enough to try and get out before fully tarnished
however he goes, Tomlin will blame him -- its already started. Tomljn will blame Everything but his Plan and abilities. He will blame the O full on first, then blame the D execution by lesser names or young guys and then he will blame the schedule.

mark it down

the tomlin equation is (play the same way every game) ((TOP/3rd down conversions + turnovers)/(defensive TOs + 3rd down stops )) = slightly more wins then losses. And slightly more wins than losses + Art Rooney = cash money
They talk about his players not "buying in" right now -- but they Are. As buy-in means being happy with the above equation and getting paid and preferential treatment for towing the line. Unless if course he chooses to throw you under the bus which is his prerogative.

and he will throw everyone under the bus to maintain the requisite narrative for the HOF

I hate when Scam Heyward chirps and makes excuses. Oh we aren’t playing with enough fire. Oh we have to tighten up the execution.

Guys just aren’t buying in.

Ummm hey Scam, as long established vet leader and #1 player lapdog to Jibba Jabber is t all that YOUR DEPARTMENT??

Guy is such a fraud.

Super glad neither he nor TJ are ever getting a playoff win here in Pittsburgh.

Hang out with losers and you will eventually become a loser yourself.
Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 84 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.

Firing Austin would do nothing at all. This is 100% Tomlin's D.

Mike surrounds himself with non-threatening yes men. Scapegoats for when he inevitably fails. He doesn't want any bright/fresh minds to challenge his bullshit.

How else could a guy that's been a head coach for 18 years not have a single branch on a coaching tree?

He's a fucking fraud and always has been.

Stats on McAfee today

244 YAC allowed vs Packers
The most ever under Tomlin

Last two games
702 passing yards with 6 TDS

Only 2 sacks on last 66 qb drop backs

The buck stops with Tomlin but I THINK Austin has more input than yall want to give him credit

Some of this mess does fit his M.O.

Before his firing as Bengals DC, Austin’s defense was on pace to allow the most points in franchise history and the most yards in the entire history of the NFL

I for one hope it’s the most expensive defense in the NFL that brings an end to NHALS

That MIGHT get the barely lucid mope Art2’s attention

If not

I hope you Pens fans get the Fire Tomlin chants going at each and every home game

If Rooney & the GMs are hell bent on not firing anyone, then perfect solution is to add. Hire John Gruden & Mike McCarthy today. Both are at home on the couch. Both AT THE LEAST, have some resume & experience. Both have some contacts out there in the position coaching world. NEITHER are "yes" men. Both would tell Tomlin to "fucking sit down & shut up or go away", they got this.

Bring them in as consultants. Then fire Austin, Faulkner, Meyers, Roberts & Alexander as their contracts runout.
