Why not try the FG?

Post by CKSteeler » Mon Nov 24, 2025 4:13 am

Given the state of kicking, having Boswell, paying him what they do...why not put the game inn his hands instead of Rudolph's? He's already made a 60 yarder in week 1. 4th and 6th with Mason is lower odds to me, but I'm not a football guru/junkie like the HOF coach who has, if you didn't know, never had a losing season.

Would have been a 65 yard there… The 60 are there by bars in New York made it with yards to spare. Fuel condition seemed good. Weather was good. I think they definitely should've tried that. A lot more confidence in him making that kick and then Steelers picking up the fourth and six.

And then Tomlin on post game gives a one word answer as to why he didn't try it

Yeah. For a guy that has been carried by Boz...
And relies on Boz.
Suprised he did not send him out for the FG.
64-65 yards.
Pretty shocked.

Knowing they do not think these end of game scenarios thru....
Or plan for these downs and distances and FG or not....
Some. Small part of me thinks he may have thought if Boz missed....
The Bears would take possession in Steelers territory, since Boz would have been attempting that kick from the Steelers 46. And did not want to hand the ball back on PS side of ball with so little time left.

Lol.

Never put it past the thought process of this genius.

Or he was "processing other information."

Yup.
And that's exactly what he was doing in that moment .....

Since he does not plan these exact scenarios pre-game, the night before, during the week, preseason, off season, over 18 years....frankly, it should be second nature for a head coach... and a whole new meaningful word for a HC doing it for 2 decades

But time and time again, he gets stuck in the moment and he can't get out.

Same with clock management, time out usage and not having plays ready to go on the first series of games = burned time outs.

It goes back to the great Bill Walsh quote.... I'll have to find.... but something along the lines of...
Your ability to process things and make decisions begins on Tuesdays and not on Sundays

Bills game MNF.
Bills were dead in the water, down 23-19 @ there own 30,
50 seconds left.
4TH AND 27.
Hook and ladder pass play goes for 44....
And gives them a 1st down and life.
I thought they would win.... they did not.
But ..... they put out a play, and probably the only play that would give them a chance.

They prepared for desperate moments and OBVIOUSLY practiced it.

We do what we do..
And what the opponent expects us to do and prepared for what we do. = failure

A hook and ladder is not even in the PS vocabulary...it's a fire truck apparatus as far as our staff understands and comprehends.
