Payton Wilson’s emergence
A 3rd round pick LB with little fanfare seems to have found his groove. Much like a fellow 3rd RND’er TE.
Right now Payton Wilson is on a team record breaking tackling pace [142] the record set in 2003 by James Farrior 141.
Not completely horrible in coverage either. Yes, there’s always room for improvement. Is he an every down ILB? I believe so.
Quietly gone from 3rd RND unknown to (potentially) team record breaker is no small feat. Not a bad 3rd RND draft pick, IMO.
With 3 years left on his rookie contract the arrow is pointing up as Payton Wilson continues to define his role in the defense.
That said, Patrick Queen’s contract has one season left. Does Queen resign?

I don’t know how anyone could call a Bednarik award winner and ACC Defensive Player of the Year an unknown. His accomplishments and measurables were off the charts coming out of college, so was his injury risk. That’s why he fell to round 3.

Right, I meant as a Steeler Wilson had some developmental challenges combined with sitting behind others on the depth chart.

He’s been playing very well… so of course they had him on the sidelines half the game in favor of a guy who can’t cover.

Just another shake my head moment.

Gotta be strong against the run....as we are torched on the pass over and over again...bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Sun Nov 23, 2025 9:59 pmHe’s been playing very well… so of course they had him on the sidelines half the game in favor of a guy who can’t cover.

My hope is they are forced to address ILB in the 26 draft; they have the picks to do so.
I think Queen is overrated and is ineffective, Is this due to the X’s & O’s or has he has played out his welcome in Pittsburgh?

Most of their issues would be solved by giving Wilson the green dot. Simplify Queen's job and get him out of there on most passing downs.Steelafan77 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 24, 2025 1:47 pmMy hope is they are forced to address ILB in the 26 draft; they have the picks to do so.

That would require admittance that they erred in signing Queen to a huge contract.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Mon Nov 24, 2025 2:15 pmMost of their issues would be solved by giving Wilson the green dot. Queen should be subject to restructure or be cut this offseason, upcoming 2026 draft needs to prioritize QB, WR and spend the rest on defense, defense should always be filled with young hungry fierce young men, fuck these over the hill, fat cat mofo's.
