Turtling - Tomlin an expert
On this weeks episode of “Did you know Tomlin is a dumb ass?”
We had 3 4th qtr drives
Zero first downs
All three resulted in punts
We netted 3 total yards in the 4th qtr
But yet there are STILL defenders of this fucking idiot?
Play to fucking win. We don’t live in our fears right? But this shit continues year after year.
So fucking sick of sweating out a lead…his “strategy” should have backfired. That was a TD.
Fucking imbecile.

Nick Markakis on Astros: "Every guy over there needs a beating."
He’s such a jackass that he does this over and over and still wonders why they lose games.
Is he one of the dumbest HCs to ever exist? Twenty years of the same shit. He can’t learn.

"We, as an offensive collective were off today, and certainly, he's a component of that,"
Only because we applied late time pressure
He’s inadequate in a lot of areas
Most would improve with an 18-19 year body of work if you will
Not our guy
Stubborn and stupid - a winning combo

One of my favorite movies of all time. Saw it when I was 11 when it came out, probably have seen it 100 times.

Here's you Pittsburgh Steelers final drive of the game.
This is that kind of killer instinct they can't teach. Finishing off the game.
+1 YD 1 & 10 - PIT 8(2:22 - 4th) 74-S.Anderson reported in as eligible. 30-J.Warren left guard to PIT 9 for 1 yard (12-A.Gilman; 0-R.Smith).
+2 YD 2 & 9 - PIT 9(2:17 - 4th) 30-J.Warren right end to PIT 11 for 2 yards (53-K.Van Noy).
NO GAIN 3 & 7 - PIT 11(2:11 - 4th) 8-A.Rodgers pass incomplete short left to 11-M.Valdes-Scantling (44-M.Humphrey).
PUNT 4 & 7 - PIT 11(2:08 - 4th) 3-C.Waitman punts 53 yards to BAL 36 Center-46-C.Kuntz. 83-L.Wester to BAL 44 for 8 yards (41-P.Wilson). PENALTY on BAL-39-K.Jackson Offensive Holding 10 yards enforced at BAL 36.

When Andy Red left Philly, he reinevented his playbook and approach for KC. That's often forgotten about his move.
Mike Tomlin is far, far too arrogant to do the same. Even if he was forced out it would be quietly and his ego would remain intact. I just can't ever see him putting in the work to learn from the rest of the league schematically, see where he's fallen behind, and then build off that in his own direction.

The 4th quarter offense was disgraceful.
Tomlin backs into wins, it’s by design.

Like I've said before, it seems that the goal in every game is to almost lose.
Do they ever score in the 4th quarter when they have the lead?
How often does the other team fail to pick up first downs in the 4th quarter when the Steelers have the lead? It's happened at least once this year, I think. But the majority of the other team's possessions when the Steelers have the lead in the 4th quarter end with points or 0:00 on the clock.

“ But Brian was the quarterback. He lay on the ground like a sniper had shot him, so they threw me out. It’s big entertainment now, protect the quarterback, $200 to your favorite charity.”
This last drive could be another overt manipulation of the game.
What else could explain that. Big Coach T acting all manly wanting his vaunted elite D to finish the game off? A real QB would have.
Any other explanations? Pure stupidity? There is that.

"We, as an offensive collective were off today, and certainly, he's a component of that,"
They were inside the ten and he was scared to pass, even though Rodgers was not sacked and not really pressured all that much all game?
But seriously it goes down to feel, and Tomlin doesn't have it.
He almost always chooses a sub-optimal way of trying to win games, usually at the expense of closing out all other options.
Me? When the Steelers (with officiating help) kept the Ravens out of the end zone, I looked at the time left and the timeouts the Ravens had and said "we need two first downs". That would inform my offensive strategy- how do I most efficiently get two first downs?
Tomlin, of course, probably immediately thinks he has to run the ball to get the other team to burn their timeouts, no matter how much more difficult it makes it to get a first down.

Yeah...should have been passing on first or second down, particularly with the weakness of the run game on Sunday. That said, I wasn't at all surprised they didn't do so.
Steelers REALLY benefited on the hold call on the punt, forcing ravens to start final possession on the 26 rather than 44.

To make it worse, he took a timeout when the Ravens had the ball. The down and distance meant that as a practical matter, the Steelers would have meaningful time on the clock if the Ravens scored one way or another. Timeout was not needed.
But the timeout helped Baltimore (i.e., the trailing team) if they failed to score. Tomlin saved them probably 25 seconds and a timeout. That is inconsistent with his RRP strategy after the turnover.
He really is a retard.

The Tomlin Paradox
We almost universally agree he's a poor coach. With extra scorn for his lack of game plans, lack of half time adjustments, poor in game management, etc.. We also generally agree that the Steelers are not a very talented team. Terrible skill guys. Cast off DBs. Old, past their prime guys, etc. And of course, we know they haven't had a top 20 QB since Ben retired.
How is he accomplishing NHALS? Why hasn't the bottom fallen out?

The secret sauce isn't really that special here. Players do "enjoy" playing for Mike Tomlin for the most part. Every team is going to have malcontents, but his teams usually don't crumble. He's never lost the locker room for whatever we think of him. If Tomlin were to step back and hire the right people to run the offense and defense, he could probably be a top tier coach just from the level of buy-in he gets from his players. On paper, Pittsburgh *should* be a great place to go coach. You get more patience and job security here than anywhere else in the sport. But in reality you have to answer to Tomlin and as a result its where careers go to die. Don't think for a second that up and coming coaches aren't fully aware of the history of his assistant coaches ending up out of the league.lifelongsteel wrote: ↑Tue Dec 09, 2025 6:15 pmThe Tomlin Paradox

He had really great talent for much of his tenure. Well above league average. As the talent has declined, he's fallen back on a proven formula to achieve mediocrity.
The entire organization follows his lead. The front office every year gets him the pieces to remain semi-competitive in the short term even if it hurts their long term prospects. Most other organizations you'd have division and back sniping after what we've seen here. You'd have the FO probably wanting to tear shit down and rebuild, but the guys in the FO are probably painfully aware that the key to job security is keeping Mediocre Mike happy. The owner isn't really pushing for greatness so you give his buddy Mike T what he wants and stay employed.
So every move this organization makes is basically geared around the delusion that they are right on the cusp. They go all in every year whereas other franchises would have pulled the bandaids off and admitted how far away they actually were. But not this group because again, Tomlin has deluded himself and they all really answer to that guy.
Tomlin is not devoid of positive attributes and the people who don't recognize that are part of the reason his defenders can always dismiss critics as a whole. It's tough for me to praise him without a heavy dose of criticism.
Tomlin's relative strengths are the cause of his fatal flaws as a coach.
In more coach fraud news, today Tomlin had the fucking gall to say this: "I've been in the hot seat for 19 years."
He then arrogantly said that he expects fans to show up Monday night against the Dolphins for more slop. It's a big game, don't you know...
There isn't a head coach anywhere in the country who has had to endure relatively less criticism and feel less pressure over his job than this fuck.

The only thing that’s been hot over the past 19 years is his well developed line of bullshit.
Can’t wait till this asshole is gone.
Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 88 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.

Might not be a worse HC in the history of the NFL in terms of not knowing when to call or not call a time out.

"You sign on with him for the 'thick days'" Tomlin said.
And I was like "what the fuck does that even mean?"
I used to not mind the "well developed line of bullshit" as much as the other things I minded about him, but now he's just saying things that you can't even puzzle out the meaning for.
