Serious Question: Why Has Dylan Cook Been 4th String?
Serious Question: Why Has Dylan Cook Been 4th String?
We have some bizarre talent evaluators on our staff. Cook had to go against Chubb and looked 10x better than Broderick (or Peat). Hope he keeps it up, but I have to question why this guy has been buried down the depth chart.

He was a real kickasser tonight
Wait until the Steelers pay Broderick Jones.

Mentioned in the game thread, probably would be a good time to maybe try Brod at LG

The kid steeped in big time
Wait until the coaches get to Cook...
Lol.
BJ inside is something that could be beneficial

Cook moves well.
Very fluid and balanced to my eye

I can see where Tomlins sporadic, micromanaging and "yes" men culture has created a situation where no one speaks out or takes any risk unless absolutely necessary. Maybe Tomlin talked about how much he loves and believes in BJ or even Peat. Im pretty sure Ive heard a lot of that in the press. Nobody on this staff is going to start advocating for a third stringer to change things.
Coach Mike unites us all and implements change.
Who would question him?
NO ONE.

Do you think that is going to happen?
This injury feels like it might turn into a Tuitt type of saga. An innocuous play and silence from the organization about his return. Just need some family turmoil sprinkled in.
Maybe I have missed some injury updates on him…to this observer it has seemed strange.

He’s not 3rd string. He was their 4th string LT:
Broderick
Calvin Anderson
Peat
Cook

Heck, they’re going to start Andrus Peat next week.LakecrestSteeler wrote: ↑Tue Dec 16, 2025 11:11 amDo you think that is going to happen?

Just a guess but he has some sand in his pants. It was only one game but he seemed to understand his job in the scheme. He will not be on an island vs the Browns.

Considering there is no tape on this kid for a defender to study, lets not crown Cook yet.
He looked good tonight, and hopefully he can keep it up.

As I said earlier, I think it's right back to Andrus Peat as soon as he is able to go. Can't let a 4th stringer derail the brilliance of old-timers protecting NHALS!

Here is another coaching question. We’ve heard all this chatter bout how much better Rogers feels now that he has two “professional” WRs that know the plays and where to be.
WTF has CAIII and Wilson been doing? Do these JAGs not watch film? Are they not working to carve out a spot and force more reps?
Does the WR coach accept their lack of attention to detail? Does Jibba? Rhetorical question there.
I’m ok with CAIII as a #4 on the team. Wilson can’t seem to get in this moving train which as a 3rd round pick is highly disappointing.

Rodgers has a history of disdain toward rookies and young players in general dating back to Green Bay.955876 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 16, 2025 4:39 pmHere is another coaching question. He was beyond annoyed with the drafting of Jordan Love, but most veteran qbs operate that way when their potential successor is drafted (see Roethlisberger, Ben).
Rodgers also did not play nice when the Packers drafted rookie WRs Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs preferring his Alan Lazzard binky, the same binky the Jets are about to release (please gawd no).
Still preferring the Alan Lazzard binky, Rodgers didn't get along with Jets YOUNG star WR Garrett Wilson during his oh so brief tenure in NYC.
"Obviously" Mike Tomlin doesn't like Roman Wilson.
But why?
We're not privy to "practice" but how bad can the kid be fucking up?
I mean it's the Uncle Artie offense.
Nothing to it
"Ok kid. Run up the sidelines really, really fast."
"NOOOOOO! STAY AWAY FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD YOU DUMB FUCK!!!!"
Nick Markakis on Astros: "Every guy over there needs a beating."
Thanks Drama. That does shed some light on it.
Haven’t followed Rogers close enough to know that.

It's does help to know as a WR where you are supposed to be. The question is why do these young players not know that? Either our coaching is horrific and lazy (good chance of that) or we just draft dumb players and never evaluate them for football IQ.

As Stillmill used to write on his site CA3 and Wilson haven't achieved trusted veteran status lol.

Cook has been in the league for 3 seasons.
Undrafted in 22, picked up by the Bucs. Bucs Cut him in 23.
Steelers claimed him for their 53 although he never played a down, on the practice squad since, until last Sunday after the Peat injury.
I do recall b2b having a favorable opinion of Cook once Cook was claimed by the Steelers. Unable to locate the thread.

1. Fuck this team
2. Our entire organization is subpar at best
All that ^^^^^ said
Let’s not act like Dylan Cook is unique to the Steelers
The league wide fact is this…..
If you are a late round/UDFA type you are never gonna be treated fairly. It’s built in. I don’t know why. It seems like it oughta be a meritocracy. It’s not. Occasionally a James Harrison or Jalen Warren forces the issue. That’s damn rare
When I’m paying close attention to the draft I always feel like there are 7th rd/UDFA types who could be among the best in the nfl if given the development reps
If you are a 7th/udfa type and don’t get the development reps good fucking luck

STD is absolutely right. NFL teams invest serious money in high draft picks. Guys like Dylan Cook are incidental. The thing is, when it is time to stand and deliver, a few of these "incidental" guys show that they are more worthy to be taking snaps than the Broderick Jones' of the world. Teams that recognize their mistake and respond to this rationally go far into the playoffs and occasionally win super bowls. Hopefully, having been housed by the Bills, Packers and Chargers, the Steelers have come to the conclusion that a different approach is required.

Not a big detail for Mike to sweat, only the second most offensive position on the whole team completely responsible for the most important player not getting killed on his blind side.

MVS was wide open on that play action TD. Had nothing really to do with his ability.
I find it hard to believe that some level of veteran professinoalism created that play or opportunity. It's the QB being willing to throw him the damn ball.
WIlson is open a lot per the people who watch the all-22. Those types aren't perfect, but unless he's just out there running around aimlessly like a five year old playing Pop Warner and defenders don't bother, it seems like there have been opportunities to get him the ball.

Prob both tbh
I was at the game in Baltimore. On the Warren catch and run TD. Freirmuth was wide open down the seam. Rodgers could have thrown up a lollypop for an easy TD. If you watch the replay after Warren gets downfield you can see Freirmuth peeling back to block. It would have been one of the easiest TDs this season if Rodgers just would have thrown it.
Rodgers is not seeing everything or not willing to take some throws to wide open players.
