Jibbs will sign him in a few years after he is done failing in Las Vegas.
Mendoza has everything you want in a QB.
His ball placement is unbelievable pretty much all over the field.
He’s an extremely underrated runner. It looks awkward (Herbstreit compared him to a baby giraffe and that’s accurate) but Jesus Christ is it effective.
He honestly reminds me of Bernie Kosar but has more upside (and Kosar could play.)
Damn I wish the Steelers could somehow get HeisMendoza.

Yeah, that was impressive especially the long ball touch.
Hope they close the deal.

I've been telling anyone who would listen, but you're old enough to remember: Jeff Hostettler. He looks and plays just like him.K_C_ wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 2:10 amMendoza has everything you want in a QB.

Yep, I was wrong on Mendoza myself.
Super impressed with his performance yesterday. He throws so well on the move.

Obviously Mendoza's a little bigger but Hostetler (from what I remember, it's been awhile) brought nothing very unique to the table.
Hostetler was very solid in all aspects and wasn't flashy at all. Mendoza, at least since Cignetti got ahold of him, can fucking put the ball EXACTLY where he wants to, seemingly every time. Even downfield, Mendoza's accuracy this season has been stupid. Off the charts stupid.
Hostetler was somewhat athletic and could run. His running style isn't as unique as Mendoza's who runs to daylight consistently, even when it looks like there's no place for him to go.
I'll stick with my Kosar comparison. Kosar had a quirky, strange style of running and carrying himself on the field. Mendoza really reminds me a lot of Bernie. Weird looking but Christ is it effective.
Again I will LOSE IT if Mendoza ends up in Cleveland.
I pray Shadeur has done enough to make Cleveland believe they have themselves a QB.

Jeff Hosteller: 51-32 as a starter (.614), about the same as Tony Romo. TD/INT ratio and 7.0 lifetime YPA was very good for his era. 4-1 in the playoffs he went 4-1, with 7 TDs and 0 INT, 9 yards per attempt, a 112 passer rating, and won a Super Bowl.K_C_ wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 2:05 pmHostetler was a good player, but I'm not seeing that comparison.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 11:50 amI've been telling anyone who would listen, but you're old enough to remember: Jeff Hostettler. That's a great reference. Mendoza's game does really seem to be something out of the 20th Century and not the 21st. Rooting for him, even though he's gonna be a Raider, but hell they haven't been in good in so long and I'd much rather them succeed than more of Mahomes, Jim Harbaugh, or Sean Payton.
*reserves the right to roots for losses*
Raiders will take Mendoza but Cleveland will get a new coach and they ( and the Jets) have 2 1st round picks so there might be movement at the top. I could see the Raiders trading down to #3 for those picks. I think Mendoza would be better on the Jets than the Raiders because the Jets almost have an Oline.K_C_ wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 2:05 pmHostetler was a good player, but I'm not seeing that comparison.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 11:50 amI've been telling anyone who would listen, but you're old enough to remember: Jeff Hostettler. No doubt Hostetler was a very good QB but he simply wasn’t as awkward looking on the field as as Mendoza is. Kosar had that same strangeness that Mendoza has in his game.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 3:08 pmJeff Hosteller: 51-32 as a starter (.614), about the same as Tony Romo. I also think Mendoza can get a lot better than he currently is and that’s scary. I honestly would have no trouble with the Steelers giving the Raiders or whoever whatever it takes to land Fernando.
Dude is special.

if tomlin is the coach - mendoza cannot bea steeeler. i wouldn't wish that on him at all - he deserves better
if tomlin stays bet your home on kyler murray or someone like that. they will use their picks for other spots and tell us how with the new QB and all the picks Tomlin finally has a real team

And then when it all fails the ball washing media along with the dumb owner will blame the failure on not having a QB.Gonzo wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 8:34 pmcorrect

Hostetler grew up about 5 minutes from the house I grew up in. The pride of Jerome, PA and Conemaugh Township High School.
He was a farmer boy and was tough as shit. Was known for being a linebacker long before QB. My step brother played with him and has told me stories about the concussions Hoss gave him (and others) in practice.
I didn’t know him as I’m about 20 years younger, but I have met him several times and he seemed a good dude. I was in grade school when he won the Super Bowl, and the following week he came to our school to talk about it. It was really cool having a Super Bowl winning QB standing there in our tiny school.
I also met him a few times as a senior. A guy I played football with was a ridiculous athlete and was breaking all of Jeff’s records in football, basketball, and baseball. So Jeff stopped in to attend the occasional game when that guy got close to one of his records.
Last I heard he owned a tractor dealer in WV.

and this is what 9-8 gets us. a circle around the cash cow that you pay for.
i sincerely hope rooney - or someone in ownership - has the nuts to break that circle this year. take a sledgehammer to it
it may be just me rationalizing, but I think and think they think that Steelers are getting perilously close to squandering that incredible Brand built - 1970-2005
