How we win....playoff edition
The story of this game will be Steelers D, not the highly touted Texans D. Steelers will shut down the run, then put heat on CJ Stoud, sacking him 2 or 3 times, generating a turnover or two, holding the Texans to 17 points max, more likely 13.
Offensively, Steelers hit a deep ball or two, take care of the football. Can't count on the YAC ability of our backs as Texans are a good tackling team, much moreso than Baltimore, but Muth, DK, and yes CA III pick up first downs in big spots. Steelers are successful in keeping rush off of Aaron.
Oh, and no worries about Boz. All this stuff about his missing a kick in 3 consecutive games. Well....his miss against Cleveland was a 57 yarder on a windy day. And...he hit 57 yarders in the other 3 games. I think Boz connects x3, and this game could be 16-13 Steelers.
Oh again...after nearly sacking Lamar on 3rd down with seconds remaining, Herbig was on the field for 4th down but then replaced after the Baltimore timeout. He needs more than the 13 snaps he had against Baltimore, and rushing up the middle some..he's fuckin relentless.

+4 in turnovers.
Let's not make it complicated.

Steelers Dline has been a handful when Harmon is in there.swissvale72 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 09, 2026 4:38 pmThe story of this game will be Steelers D, not the highly touted Texans D. Cam with 7 combined tackles, 1 QBH and just a bull vs Ravens. ( 37 of 51 snaps. ) + 3 offensive snaps in the Brotherly Shove plays
Benton also had 7 combined with a nice move to hget into the backfiled on one play.. was on the field alot ( 44 of 51 snaps )
Harmon, 2 tackles, sack and QBH. ( 36 of 51 snaps )
These three warrent doubles.....
Can double two most of the time....but not all three without leaving Highsmith / Watt and Herbig some space.
The depth has been noticable when they get in the game,
Otomewo - 14 snaps..noticed him.
Yahya - 12
and Logan Lees single snap got himself a batted pass.
Highsmith - 44
Watt - 43
.
.
.
.
.
Herbig -13. Not good, considering it was TJ's first game back...
I would think with #51 speed......another 10-12 snaps and he would have made another impact play.
He was second on the team with7.5 sacks and second with 13 TFL....both behind Highsmith ( 9.5 / 15 )
His 18 QBH were one bhind AH and Watt ( 19 )
ILB.
Queen 51 of 51 snaps. - credited with ONE solo tackle vs Ravens......in 51 snaps.
Malik Harrison 36 of 51. ( 5 combined )
Payton Wilson only 11 of 51 snaps. ( 3 )
Maybe Malik Harrisons 5 seasons in Baltimore was part of Tomlins getting him on field more? Familiarity?
I tend to think Tomlin wanted a little more bulk in the middle with Derrick Henry....
MW probably has 15 lbs over Wilson.
Plus Ravens RB out of backfield coverage may not hacve been as important to keep PW on field more?
I think we see more PW this Monday nite Monday nite

Joey Porter, Jr. goes full on Ike Taylor and shuts down Houston's #1 wide receiver, Nico Collins.
I understand he'll get some help on some plays, but if JPJ erases Collins on his own then the Steelers defense could make it a miserable night for the Texans' offense.

100% Swiss!
Also, O Line has to play above the line in both pass pro and run game. TEs need worked in as much as possible. We need good, explosive runs from both Jaylen and Kenny G.
D needs to run stop, force CJ into pass situations, and bring the hounds.

They will need big plays on defense or teams. They won't be able to sustain drives. Short fields or this game goes 17-6 Texans.

JPJ has had an all-pro type season this year, hope he can lock down Nico, if he can the Steelers defense should be very effective.

Can Warren and gain well make these guys miss? Re-watching last week's game...:again... amazing how many missed tackles there were on the two of them
I think that is how we win...get the ball out in space to Warren and especially Gainwell and make the Texans tackle in space. If the Steelers come out and try to force run the ball the offense is going no where. Although if the Steelers can run the ball like impose your will kind of stuff it is going to be a long night for the Texans defense but I don't see that happening.swissvale72 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 10, 2026 4:04 pmCan Warren and gain well make these guys miss? I would expect a slow, grinding start for the offense. Once Rodgers gets tuned into the Texans defense I think it will open up later in the game.
As for defense...I'd play press coverage in cover-2. The idea here would be to take away the short stuff for Stroud because I think the Texan game plan will be to get the ball out fast because of Watt, Highsmith and Herbig. Press coverage will allow the rush to get there I think and then all kinds of good things can happen for the Steelers defense. I think with Heyward and Harmon that the Texans run game isn't going to be that good....well it shouldn't be that good. The run defense has been hit or miss all season. Let's hope it is a hit Monday night.
It would be nice if the offense got off to a quick start. If the Steelers get 10 or more points ahead early I think the game is handily won as the Steelers defense will be able to terrorize Stroud. If the Steelers get behind by a score or two by the third quarter, we are doomed against this Texans defense.
Herbig is the game changer. He delivered last game. If he’s allowed he can do it again. I have a feeling Benton might hulk out. Dude is insanely strong. He’s been McCullering.
Im trying to ignore the moron running the team and pretending it’s Bill Cowher.
That helps.

Steelers score more than 3 first half points. Maybe even more than 7.

2005 playoff run on offense is how they win
