Option picked up. They won't make him a lame duck, his ego is far too large to really step away and admit defeat, and Rooney isn't going to fire him without a hell of a lot more pressure.

It's on the fans at this point. They have to force this to happen even when they could be fooled into having a glimmer of hope as they were the last quarter of the season. Don't let a meaningless win here or there blind you to the bigger picture. This isn't going to get better with these people at the helm.

Coach for life because Eddie Munster Rooney. I agree with CK.

Tomlin extended and both coordinators are coming back and most of you will support it by going to games and rooting for wins.

I don’t want to do this to myself anymore

I’m tired of being embarrassed as a fan

Tomlin needs to go, don’t care how it happens, just GTFOOP

Rooney is a total POS to let this fester any longer

Rah Rah Go Team Go

Please STFU with that

I deal with this with humor.

The defenders of Coach T crack me up.

The team cracks me up, they have no idea how much they suck and chest beat and talk shit with NOTHING to back it up.

The inevitable Winning Seasons celebrations and the hope that they can figure out how to score A SINGLE FUCKING TOUCHDOWN IN A PLAYOFF GAME.

Has that ever happened before? I'm sure in the neanderthal era it happened, but in the modern era?

You see what happened to the Texans, they played down to the level of Coach T's team.

This is all so Spinal Tap. A parody of a football team and fanbase.

Just look at that arrogance.

Tomlin will resign. He has to know what position this last humiliation puts Rooney in. If Tomlin has any class he resigns.

Does Rooney care about further humiliation? It's a ritual.

He might enjoy it

Option picked up.

That said if he is on our sidelines next season I'm boycotting. I'm not spending another red cent on a Tomlin led Steelers.

I’m trying not to be optimistic about this because any answer that involves him returning takes another year of my life away.

Being forced out but making it look like his choice to leave is more possible than it’s been in a while.

I think what the dude wants is to coach somewhere else, where he can ride the joy and praise of a fresh fanbase for a few years without coming under criticism… but he also has a sweet gig for life. It must be a tough decision.

Hmmmmm .... I don’t want to get Charlie Browned again but I have a glimmer of hope the Tomlin goes. To be fair I had a glimmer of hope on Monday that this team might break the losing streak so I could easily get bitten in the ass again.

The one thing that could potentially make this year different is the fact that we're hosting the draft. It could get very ugly after in front of the whole world and neither the league nor the Steelers want that.

I really doubt the Steelers have the balls to out and out fire Tomlin though I didn't think the Ravens would release Harbaugh either.

My best guess is that the Steelers pressure him into moving on with his life's work and it's announced as a mutual parting of ways. It worked for the Pens last off season with a 2-time Championship coach so maybe the Steelers will see those results and feel better about finally moving on.

Like many here, I'd also like to see the next generation of Rooneys take the reins but im even less optimistic about this piece.

Was there any Fire Tomlin chants or did the place just clear out?

I would think that if Tomlin had even a shred of self awareness he would go do some TV, but I think Rooney will just sacrifice a couple assistants and it will be business as usual going forward.

I'm hanging on to hope that he's gone, but the easy money would be he gets his option year picked up for 2027, so no lame duck season next year, and next year being year 20 for him will become his do it or don't do it year, so they will waste another year trying to achieve NHALS, they trade for some shitty QB like Cousins or Murray, bring Artie back and probably won't bring Austin back since his contract is up, he will be the annual scapegoat and then they will promote from within to replace Austin, it's just what they do.

I've been saying it for months. "Mutual parting of ways" is what's coming. Allows him to save face.

He doesn’t have any class.

I think the Steelers will tell Tomlin they are not extending him. They will also tell Tomlin that Austin is gone. Maybe they punt Smiff too, just for good measure.

No extension will piss Tomlin off. It will give him and the Steelers the out they both need. Tomlin and the Steelers will have a “mutual parting”, and he will go to TV.

Omar should also go. He has butchered and overpaid this roster, and saddled the next guy with the Watt and Metcalf contracts, no plan at QB and terrible FA signings. Over 30? Washed? Apply within! The Steelers want you!

It would also be great if the Steelers would say goodbye to Heyward (and his baby brother) Watt, and the rest of the Tomlin enablers that have destroyed the culture of the franchise. NHALS is good enough for those losers... what do they care about rings? They are beyond wealthy and will never have to work again.

It’s all just a form of entertainment. I gotta tell you, i was more entertained this year than I have been in years with this team.

I hope they run it back (option picked up) so all of you silly bastards lose your minds again this year and foolishly believe that you are so important that by your sheer will of HOPING for losses you can effectuate change.

I’ll just take the over 8.5 wins again 8-)

I don't know. I think Tomlin has a pretty good gig for $20M a year and he knows it. Is he really going to stop stealing paychecks because his feelings got hurt?

I'd hire a real OC and DC and quietly tell them they have complete autonomy. Maybe even one of them will replace Tomlin the following year. I mean, I'd fire Tomlin in a heartbeat...just presenting an option if Deuce is too cheap to do that.

100% yes he hates getting embarrassed like that. Those chants are what motivated him to get his NHALS by pulling out all the offensive and defensive cards. Once they got to 9 wins, the foot was taken off the gas and they coasted....

The TV thing is more about creating leverage with the Steelers in negotiations. Get the extension he wants and then a pay bump another year down the road like always.

His agent or he himself leaks shit like this every time his contract comes up.

Even if he went into TV, it would just be because the Steelers actually were done and to save face as others have mentioned. It'd be a year and he'd jump back in with some shit bag team.

Real humor would be in watch Tomlin try to turn around a dumpster fire. I said last night we are in year 8 of Tomlin's plan to rebuild the offense and his defense has now crumbled and he needs to fix that now, too. It took him half a decade WITH Colbert to build a functioning OL around Ben

Tomlin's not stupid. He's never taking on a project/turnaround.

He'll bide his time in TV and pray for another ideal situation like he inherited in PIT
