I'm definitely in the OG club. I didn't beat out Ron, but I wasn't far behind. I still remember being infuriated before the SB with Green Bay when he said he wanted to ease into the game. I was officially done after the Tebow game so you can imagine it's been a hard decade + for me.

After a few contentious years on this board I would like to use the joyous occasion to unite the Haters and Ballwashers under one fan base once again.
What say you, ballwashers?

We've got a short window to unite before half of us hate the next coaching hire. Let's do it!
franco32 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 13, 2026 9:38 pmI have no doubt Art 2 fired Tomlin. The way this unraveled with the Steelers rushing to get the press release out and then Tomlin scrambling to send his...this was not some coordinated good-bye where Tomlin resigned.
Art will say Tomlin resigned to shield himself from moronic backlash, but I think he a) either finally grew a pair or b) Danny Rooney convinced him to do the right thing. If Danny did do that, then please God may he take over as quickly as possible because that's great leadership.
That game last night was a culmination of Coach Mike's 19 years...he didn't live up to his bullshit. He failed spectacularly.
I imagine if the guy owning the biz spent so much on both sides of the ball and was delivered that steaming pile of shit, that's gonna be a problem.
There was no Ben comeback to pull his ass out of the fire, A Rod had no idea that's what he was expected to do. Instead he got abused right at the end of the game and caused three TDs for the Texans to nail that casket shut.
"I'm institutionalized, man," he joked. "I gotta have it. I just love the challenges week in and week out that this job provides: the growth in it, the collective growth, the individual growth."
I'm part of the 'done with MT' OG club as well. Was at the SB against GB, and his easing into the game BS pissed me off, too! I'd also say the Tebow game probably sealed the deal for me. And, trust me, considering he's a local guy for me, I gave him a longer leash than my mind told me to. He's a big part of the reason I've spend much less of my time (what I have left) on my lifelong Steelers team. Best decision I've made in years.
Thank the Football Gods!
Deuce, don't fuck this up! You're done. Let youth take over.

I'm gobsmacked, overwhelmingly thankful, but I did not expect that coming today. Victory is ours!
Anybody know what Russ Grimm's up to, is he available? I've heard he at least knows when to call a time out...
(It's kind of funny to consider how much he was mocked for that).

Shefter is saying the front office was surprised
"I'm institutionalized, man," he joked. "I gotta have it. I just love the challenges week in and week out that this job provides: the growth in it, the collective growth, the individual growth."
Not exactly fair. We could have been optimistic initially, and through time and experience quietly watched the car crash and hoped for change.Steelperch wrote: ↑Tue Jan 13, 2026 7:17 pmI would like to congratulate every single one of the haters out there. The “Fire Tomlin” chant crowd. You got to him and brought change. You ballwashers are worthless fans and not allowed to celebrate with us.
It's kind of funny to me that the Tomlin regime kind of went the way of every tinpot dictator or decrepit regime goes in history. They seem like they're just going to hang around forever and then it all just comes crashing down suddenly as a result of their corruption, stupidity and incompetence.

I do if the race is taking priority over actual competency. That's the problem with race-based hiring practices. They make you question even the people who have more than earned their chances or abilities. I don't object to hiring a black coach in a vacuum. I object to playing politics at all because what I think most of us want is the best possible guy to lead the team successfully.StillerInCT wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 2:40 amWho gives a fuck?sowhat wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 12:01 ami’m sure rooney will pick a black coach.6Trophies wrote: ↑Tue Jan 13, 2026 11:34 pmOdds to be the next Pittsburgh Steelers HC:

I supported Tomlin's hiring in 2007 (which admittedly means absolutely nothing) because I thought he had more potential than the two in-house guys they looked at and don't recall anyone else even being looked at. So we shall see.

Yeah obviously competency matters most. I just give the Rooney's the benefit of the doubt that they will do their due diligence and concern myself less with which color person they pick.CKSteeler wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 2:47 amI do if the race is taking priority over actual competency. I had that faith in Dan Rooney back in 2007. I just really don't think I can place any faith of any kind in Art II. Even if he didn't prioritize race in this at all and I won't weigh in on the probability of him not doing that, I don't even trust him to make a good football decision.

I wouldn't be shocked if it's his son's decision to make instead of him. Art is 73. They like to keep coaches around a long time. So at some point he would inherit the coach you'd have to think.CKSteeler wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 2:57 amI had that faith in Dan Rooney back in 2007. After today everyone has to say glowing things about Tomlin so some other franchise is dumb enough to hire him a year from now and give the Steelers compensation for it.

Nah I think it's objective reality where the standards are clearly lowered in many instances to hire minorities in certain fields. Or to get them into colleges they wouldn't normally qualify for. Or to get them to pass the certification exams needed to actually become credentialed. We could go on. You can pretend it isn't a thing if that suits you I'm not really going to argue this all day.jeemie wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 3:14 amNobody makes you question their (the minority person's) competency but you.CKSteeler wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 2:47 amI do if the race is taking priority over actual competency.
