I'm sad it's going to take me at least 3 seasons to condition myself to angrily yell a different name at my TV.
I'll get over it through, don't worry.

Tomlin PC 1/11/25 -“Don't blink. If you're a blinker cut your eyelids off"

What will football be like without the anticipation of Three Stooges-like buffoonery and bullshit?
I've forgotten how to love. I need a book or a video, something like that.

"I'm institutionalized, man," he joked. "I gotta have it. I just love the challenges week in and week out that this job provides: the growth in it, the collective growth, the individual growth."
Sure, he was a good coach, but it became stale and failing in the playoffs so many times...he had to go. The need to demonize him to the point of internet meme pettiness .... some folks on this board seriously need to step away and go touch grass.
I will miss him, as I still miss BC.
Hire Shula and bring the other fella from Rams to be OC (passing game coordinator). Slash the roster of big contracts, get younger and compete in few years.
Tomlin will likely be great on TV and maybe he will come back before contract is up. Give PS a nice draft pick as compensation.

Hopefully he's just licking his wounds after a literal era-ending playoff shellacking.
If he's really gone, you guys are gonna miss him as much as you will eventually miss Tomlin. That's two maypoles down in the gameday thread.

I'm sad thinking about the massive missed window that to me defines the Tomlin era.
Steelers stood on top of the world in 2008. With a young superstar QB going into his prime. An incredible set of hall of fame level young defenders. And seemingly the leagues hottest young coach. They were poised to do some real damage in the next 10 years. But, alas . . . the coach had hit his ceiling, and never really turned this team into something special.
So, as much as the post Ben era has sucked (I include every year after his injury on this list), it was really the 10 previous years that are Tomlin's real legacy.

I think the last ten years have made everyone leery of the idea that Art II can select a good coach, or even change his ways, and so the negativity will continue until given a reason to hope otherwise.steelclan wrote: ↑Thu Jan 15, 2026 3:49 pmSure, he was a good coach, but it became stale and failing in the playoffs so many times...he had to go. My 2 cents as someone who's not a psychologist, and didnt stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, either.

I still have the magazines and newspapers and screenshots. The day following SB 43, most news and sports media noted the youth and vitality of the Steelers, with headlines proclaiming themes like, "Birth of a new dynasty".... all sadly dissipated into the sands of mediocrity over the following decade plus ...

They ALL loved playing for Club Med[iocre]. Tomlin enabled and catered to players. That was his secret NHALS sauce.Steeldrama wrote: ↑Thu Jan 15, 2026 7:05 pmhttps://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootba ... am-meeting

Evidently most of the players were sad and crying, probably because it was ran like a country club for many years with Tomlin being one of the boys.

He really truly believes none of this is His fault
now the party is over - 1/3 of them, coaches too, are out n the street
he doesnt have a coaching tree because he hires people for positions that no one else wants them for and they are beholden to him
he gets vets contracts they shouldnt get and they are beholden to him
That is the Real Culture he intentionally built

Agree 100%, I think Art finally saw this, or maybe it was Danny who made his pops wake up, who knows, but this is probably why ArtII told every staff member that they will not be retained today, unless the new coach wants to hire them, so looks like he actually cleaned house.
