Jim Schwartz to Steelers as DC?

It appears that the Browns hired Todd Monken to be their new HC, and Schwartz is pissed and not coming back.

Mike Tomlin and NHALS - The embodiment of the soft bigotry of lowered expectations.
Jim Schwartz - dedicated 4-3 guy with his own twist on it he's well known for.
Art II and by extension the yes-man used car salesman Mike McCarthy - determined to run everything back just like every year in recent memory and have no desire to switch from the 3-4 and ask tough questions about key or at least highly paid assets or liabilities such as Watt.

I see Schwartz going to S>F> to replace Salah?
Probably too expensive to be Steelers DC.
Plus they would ask Schwartz to coach to fit the Steelers 3-4 scheme

Why would you want Schwartz when you can have the Raider's DC?

This looks like it’s going to happen. I’m not sure having McCarthy surround himself with his old buddies like a plate of comfort food is the best idea. Mediocre Mike surrounded himself with yes men too and we saw where that went.
I guess it’s McCarthy’s call.

It took Tomlin 15 years or so to become hated and distrusted. McCarthy has done it in a week. If nothing else that feat is impressive.
I'm completely on board with McCarthy assembling the D-Team here.
They'll primarily be dicking down Steelers fans every week.
I've already said it, but you should be hoping for this to all fail spectacularly at this point because absolute and utter humiliation is the only thing that will force Art II to change. If you wanted losses before, you should want them doubly so now.

I welcome the insanity of Jim Schwartz.

"I'm institutionalized, man," he joked. "I gotta have it. I just love the challenges week in and week out that this job provides: the growth in it, the collective growth, the individual growth."
I kind of want McCarthy to win a playoff game his first season.CKSteeler wrote: ↑Thu Jan 29, 2026 8:35 pmI'm completely on board with McCarthy assembling the D-Team here.

Otherwise, the narrative will revert back to sucking Jibba’s cock again
Buck Cluck winning a playoff game this year further makes Jibbs look bad.
We all know Dunce Rooney is going to give him a few years at least. Might as well win a playoff game.
Wow, what if he makes it to the final four.
Tomlinoids will self-detonate. There will be so much gnashing, wailing, screeching, crying, bitching and moaning.
I'm fully behind the new Coach Mike.

Eh, Tomlin's the witch that finally melted to me. He's always going to have his ballwashers who will refuse to acknowledge he played any role in his own decline over time (and the peak wasn't all that great, really).955876 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 30, 2026 12:01 amI kind of want McCarthy to win a playoff game his first season.CKSteeler wrote: ↑Thu Jan 29, 2026 8:35 pmI'm completely on board with McCarthy assembling the D-Team here.

I'd rather just see the organization stop deluding itself and make progress. I get your point completely and hadn't even really considered it from that point of view. I just don't want everything and anything to be about revealing Tomlin to be the fraud that he was. It's over and done with. Thankfully.
I'll hold out some slim hope that McCarthy proves me wrong and isn't more of the same. I'm not going to cry if he wins a playoff game or two or makes a Super Bowl someday. I just don't see that really happening particularly with the state of the current roster.
They really did just hire the white, fat, offensive version of Tomlin.

You don't feel that McCarthy is SOOO much less fulla shit than Tomlin...and that that's meaningful??
I think McCarthy just has a different type of bullshit. I don't buy his whole crying at the podium thing. I believe he went into the interview with Art II and told him exactly what he wanted to hear. Wouldn't surprise me if someone like, say, Kahn who was familiar with him from his days in New Orleans may have even helped there.swissvale72 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 30, 2026 5:17 pmWith you until final sentence, CK.CKSteeler wrote: ↑Fri Jan 30, 2026 4:29 pmEh, Tomlin's the witch that finally melted to me. I can take some guesses as to what he said to Art II to get the job. He's great with QB's (we know this part)! Your roster is great! Nah, we don't need to change the defense! Just a QB away and we'll be right up there with anyone! It's nonsense to me and I'm comfortable saying that McCarthy likely knows it, but I'd imagine that was his sales pitch to get hired.
He's blatantly full of shit when he starts trying to take any credit for the play of Joe Montana.
But this is obviously just an opinion. Could always be wrong and he's really just a weepy nice regular guy from Pittsburgh who has ascended to his third NFL head coaching opportunity.
Living here in DFW, I listened to many McCarthy interviews on local sports radio. He always came across like a regular guy. Very likable. He was always cool to the local radio guys here.CKSteeler wrote: ↑Sat Jan 31, 2026 6:11 amI think McCarthy just has a different type of bullshit. I don't buy his whole crying at the podium thing. I don't think he's faking, or putting on an act. I think he can't believe his great fortune, that he ended up the HC of the team of his youth, probably something at 1 point in his life he never dreamed possible. I have no issue with the show of emotion in that moment, kind of like it even.
Am I excited about the hire? No. We could have done better. Probably could have done much worse too.
He at least knows how to put together a staff and has quality connections, appears to have an eye for it.
I'm willing to give it a chance
Going to be funny if the Steelers win a playoff game next year with McCarthy ending the Tomlin drought.
Throw. The. Football. On. First. Down.
