Patrick Queen
https://steelersdepot.com/2026/03/repor ... revealed/
I HOPE your beloved Steelers aren't done making moves.
Nothing surprising about yesterday, other than the fact moves were made YESTERDAY, the FIRST day of free agency.
Steelers still going the veteran route in hopes of being competitive now (it all feels kinda backwards since the Steelers don't have a viable starting QB on the roster).
I rarely click on a Steelers Depots articles (headlines often better than the content) but I want Patrick Queen and his salary jettisoned so I opened upon my arrival at work this morning.
Dallas offering a 5th (headline said MULTIPLE calls but only sites Dallas. Clickbait as usual per Depot)
Jerry wants to lowball K-H-A-N (he's not a hot dog) again??
Well, it's better than releasing Queen for nothing and dealing with salary cap ramifications.
The article has some basic logic that I can get on board with.
Get the underperforming Queen and his overpriced salary off the books and replace him with a lesser cap hit and BETTER LBs in Leo Chenal or Kaden Ellis.
The article also sites a strong draft, BUT that's why Dallas shouldn't feel pressured to trade.
If you cant find a LB to your liking this year, then you probably shouldn't be working for an NFL team.
Anyway,
Trading Queen further removes the Tomlin stench.
It frees up money to continue adding to a subpar roster.
If you're a proponent of extending Joey Jr, freeing up salary perhaps placates cheap A$$ Rooney.
Of course I'd rather your Steelers trade a bigger fish like TWatt or the Blue Wig Brawler, but I really think what looks to be a day 3 pick for Queen could be more beneficial than it looks on a Depot Headline.

A 5th might be all they have to offer.
This is a decent LB class but I'm not sure how many are ready to start day 1. That is why there is interest in Queen

Of course not ALL prospects from any given position are not DAY 1 starters, but this is no doubt a deep LB draft.
Queen's demand (by only the Cowboys apparently) can only be name recognition based on playing for the Ravens and Steelers.
His play is quite below the line
I stole this from the usually comical comments section of Depot, but if it's factually accurate it's quite damning of Queen's subpar play:
Leo Chenal run defense grades....
2025: 76.2
2024: 90.2
2023: 79.2
Patrick Queen run defense grades
2025: 44.3
2024: 58.6
2023: 73.1
Queen has missed 73 tackles over that time span (total snaps-3300)
Chenal has missed 12 tackles over that time span. (total snaps-1300)
Even if you tripled Chenal missed number based on snaps played he'd still have 1/2 as many missed tackles as Queen.

If they can get a 4th or 5th round while saving cap space by all means.According to the Star Telegram's Nick Harris, both the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles are shopping for inside linebackers and have had conversations with Pittsburgh about Queen. Sounds like Pittsburgh is hunting down a mid-round pick. https://www.si.com/nfl/steelers/onsi/ne ... n-revealed
I really was hoping they were targeting Quay Walker from Greenbay.
Raiders signed both Nakobe Dean and Quay Walker in a two for deal.
I like the Leo Chenal option as well, is he a fit and what is his market?
Is the Holcomb resigning of a two year deal an indicator that direction?
Walker, no thanks. I never get enamored by an ILB with a bunch of tackles. Some team with overpay for his services.
Queen needs to move on. Hasn't worked out here. Hopefully Steelers can get something for him.
Really love to see Steelers go after McCreary. Excellent slot. If they can grab him the depth and starters at CB would look as good as it has in years.

Walker was ‘signed’ by the Raiders.

Please move Queen. This has failed miserably in my opinion. Enamored by Tomlin, never worked out. While wearing the green dot now for two teams and hasn’t worked for either.
We are in fact more dumb for trying that same thing and it still not working out.
Move on!

Keep an eye on this.
Word is the trade with Dallas isn't dead and there's another team involved as well.

I saw Philly was interested as well
It kills me we pay Queen 13M for that mediocre to poor play. That said, are we really going to go into the season with One-legged Holcomb and Payton Wilson who is a coverage ILB? (Malik is horrendous so I won't even bring him up.)
I mean, Holcomb is better than Queen IMO.

And Queen's coverage stats are worse than his run defense grades.Steeldrama wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2026 12:39 pmOf course not ALL prospects from any given position are not DAY 1 starters, but this is no doubt a deep LB draft.

I am hoping they will address ILB with the 53rd pick. Hill, Rodriguez and Trotter could be available, but most likely the latter two. I don't want backup or average ILBs brought in to fill the void at the starting spot if they trade/release Queen.
Hater = Realist
if i had to choose, i’d rather have a cheap bad ILB than a bad but also close to highest paid in league ILB.
