How many games yinz been to?

Post by swissvale72 » Wed Apr 08, 2026 12:28 pm

Since you asshats are starting dumb AF votes about shit, how about this one.

I've been to 96 Steeler games total, 20 of them playoff games. One might think this is because I'm old AF, but 31 of these games I attended between the ages of 10 & 14 at Pitt stadium, mostly going by myself.

I went to 35 games at TRS, 25 at Heinz/Acrisure. Only 5 away games, 4 at shitty Foxboro and then the Turkey Jones game at Cleveland Stadium.

I suspect that some of you ass hats who have always lived locally, like perch, may have attended more.

I would have to add them up. Season tickets from 1974 until 83 I saw all home games with the exceptions of MNFB plus all playoff games. All at 3 rivers. After 83 it was more interment as I was in college so perhaps 2 per year until 89 when my dad gave up his tickets

Steelers games:

3 @ Three Rivers
4 @ Heinz
3 @ Cincy
4 @ Detroit... I was at the infamous coin toss game on Thanksgiving.

Been to a bunch of Lions games, too many to count.
In their current state, I hate everything about this organization.

probably four in my lifetime

the first was at Pitt Stadium and I remember a GB player named Travis Williams scored a lot

the last was at SoFi in LA when they won

Never saw any live during the golden era or the silver era (aughts)

I spread it out and pick my spots

Two.
One at TRS against the Houston Oilers, the other at Lucas Oil Stadium against the Colts, obviously.
I’m not big on the in stadium experience. I don’t like crowds…especially obnoxiously drunken crowds. Throw in traffic, public restrooms, long lines, etc., and I’m perfectly happy enjoying game days from the comforts of my living room couch!

I dont think I ever saw a Chas Noll game, but 3-4 a year in the Cowher era, then going to at least a couple per year in the King Coach T era. My Dad died, and he was one of the main reasons we went so my attendance trailed off, then I got sick and fucking tired of Tomlin's bullshit.

Went to quite a few epics. Bus running over Urlacher in the blizzard, the snow bowl with the Mad Iranian Pourdanesh in TRS. Many MNF games at TRS, the last game at the Blast Furnace with my brother. My uncle had first row seats behind the home bench and we grabbed his seats, we were having a blast. We might have been one of the last people in there.

Miss those days, but the ponderous year after year Tomlin bullshit sucked every ounce of optimism about the team right outta me. It was never the same.

Lots of my friends stopped going too, sold their tix and parking passes. We had some tilts out in the Gold Lot.

Is this what it's like getting old?

Getting old is part of it, Langer, and for me, no longer being local. I've been to 4 games in the past 10 years, the last of which was the double weather delay debacle vs Arizona in 2023. I stayed in my seat throughout both delays, despite being directed to move by Steelers management, and encouraged to not only leave my seat, but the lake the fucking stadium by my two adult children who had had enough at that point..

I doubt that I will go to any more games and this is where they're getting old part comes in. I'm both physically and medically compromised to the point of it being an extreme pain in the ass to manage, getting into and out of the stadium. Plus games I went to, and if the Steelers would lose, I instantly wanted to be home and my news was gonna take me an hour just to get the fuck out of the place so I think my account ends at 96.

My Dad and his college friend from Pitt, they were frat brothers with Mike Ditka, so going back a few years, went in on season tickets. I think they were in the friend's name, I never bothered asking.

They had tix up in the 500s at Three Rivers, he was able to get down to 106 when they went to Heinz. They were pretty good seats. But he was not in good health, on oxygen and had mobility issues. Maybe he had some contacts or they accommodated his request. I think his son up in Dubois has them, after my Dad passed we passed on picking up the second.

I would go up into the corkscrews so I could see the field, and walk around a bit. It was a party up there.

I dont know anyone that still goes to Steeler games. Im hopeful Fat Mike puts together an actual team, it would be nice to make it down there to catch a game.

Wow, your dad was quite the guy, Langer, great career in education and a TON of grandkids.

Had kind of the opposite experience with tickets going from TRS to Heinz. My brother Tony got season tickets upon the Steelers moved to TRS in 1970 at his choice of seats really and he didn't choose sideline seats but rather chose the end zone the one closest to the Allegheny. He was right in the middle the end zone second deck Very first row. Those seats were freaking awesome when the ball is on the 30 yard line going in both touchdowns in the 75 AFC championship game wete right in front of us. But then the move to Heinz, the end zone ticket holders kind of got screwed, but the Steelers thought they were doing them a favor by not charging them at PSL for end zone seats, but there was no guarantee that he'd have similar zone seats ended up with sideline seats in the next last sideline section. They weren't bad, but not nearly as great as the ones at three rivers Tony stop going to games. I came down less frequently and he gave them up entirely a few years ago.

I've seen some highlights in person though most notably, the immaculate reception in second to thar 08 AFC championship game. And as I've know that the AFC championship game in 75 was notable as well. Of course I saw the Steelers lose championship games in 72, 97, 01 and 04. What a difference over the years though whereas an 08 championship was punctuated with fireworks in Enfield celebrations and trophy presentations that lasted forever in 75 Cliff branch was tackled to end the game players left the field and we all got up and went home. Lol

Jack Manion was my Dad's friend, passed away driving his car out on Rte 19 in Peters and wrecked. He wasnt in good shape at the end, he had a huge personality. Remember him fondly. All except one of my Dad's friends are gone now. My Dad was a pretty good guy himself. Was on a carrier down in the gulf during the Bay of Pigs.

We'd warm up before and after the game over at the Elks on the North side. There was an older couple that we knew, IIRC my aunt's sister, it's been some years...they were there and left, and were looking to get rid of their tickets when Heinz opened. Missed them by that much. I was kinda mad about that lol. But, she was a sweet nice old lady, and couldn't get too mad.

91 vs Redskins got blown out. Redskins were loaded that year.
93 vs Oilers, lost and froze my balls off.
95 vs Vikings, the Cowher stuffing a picture into refs pocket. Lost
97 Sunday night vs Ravens won in a shut out/ blow out 37-0. Went to Copes Cabana afterwards and listened to the post game and drank a few more beers.
A preseason game vs Atlanta but can't remember if it was 09 or 10.

I’d say 20

4 playoff games 2 trs/heinz

6 road games 2ne/3jax/1nyg

Rest at Heinz/acrid

Fan behavior is a real problem.

Today's routine attention whore loudmouth public behavior would have gotten them a beatdown from angry dads fifty years ago.

This is true. Across most sports lately. All the way down to include pee wee leagues.

Been going to games since 1992. Live 5.5 hrs away so only go to a game or two a year. Season ticket holder for the last few years. Some years I’ve gone to 4 games. Some 1 game is all. Been to a few away stadiums over the years.

Buffalo a few times. Philly once.

Highlight game hands down was Troy’s pick six of Flacco in the AFCCG. Absolute pandemonium!

I’d guess about 50 total. I went to one game a year as a kid, then when I was on the season ticket waiting list I got tickets to two games a year for about 20 years. Now I don’t go regularly anymore.

Steelers games I've been to. My record is not good.

1. 11/28/1982 @ Seattle - Loss 16-0. The ship I was stationed on was in the shipyard in Bremerton, and I got tickets on the base. Glad to have seen some Super Steelers in action, but Bradshaw was injured on the first drive and never came back in the game. It was all downhill from there.

2. 9/4/1994 vs. Dallas - Loss 26-9. My brother-in-law came into tickets the week before. Took a flight down to Pittsburgh from Providence. First ever Steelers home game for me, and the only time I saw them at TRS.

3. 10/7/2001 vs. Cincinnati - Win 16-7. Got the tickets from a season-ticket holder who lives in Rhode Island. I did this prior to 9/11 because you'll remember that the first regular season home game at Heinz was supposed to be vs. Cleveland on 9/16. The NFL shutdown for two weeks after the 9/11 attacks, and the first regular season home game then became this game against Cincinnati. Bettis with over 150 yards rushing.

4. 10/3/2010 vs. Baltimore - Loss 17-14. A work colleague (yes, I work in a bank - Citizens Bank) saw my Terrible Towel hanging in my cube. Did even know me, and he invited me to join his buddies to head to Pittsburgh to see the game. They see a game at a different venue across the nation every year. He just retired last month. This was the last game of Ben's four-game suspension, and it looked like Charlie Batch was going to lead them to 4-0 to start off the season. Flacco and Houshmandouchebag had other ideas as they connected for a TD pass with 34 seconds left on the clock.

5. 10/28/2012 vs. Washington - Win 27-12. I drove down to Pittsburgh with my friend from the UK who is a big Steelers fan and was visiting us. Steelers wearing the bumblebees. Just after the game was over, we jumped in my car and drove all the way back to Rhode Island beating Hurricane Sandy

6. 11/3/2013 @ New England - Loss 55-31. The famous tailgate with you, Swiss. I know it's the Steelers loss that you had the most fun at. You wore the Bernard Pollard fan club shirt. The game sucked as they usually did against New England during the Brady years. This game was notable as the Steelers defense gave up the most points ever in one game.

7. 12/22/2013 @ Green Bay - Win 38-31. What a great venue Lambeau Field is! An old Navy shipmate of mine lives in Green Bay, and he put me up for the weekend. He's an annoying Packers fan, but other that, he's a great dude. I met up with Stillers Barz and his lovely wife in the Lambeau parking lot. Great game, and the season was on the line. Thankfully Rodgers was injured so we had Matt Flynn behind center for the Pack, and still the game was in question until the end.

8. 9/10/2015 @ New England - Loss 28-21. The only game I saw at Foxboro where the Steelers actually had a chance to win. D'Angelo Williams had a pretty good game with 127 yards rushing. This was the game where the Steelers had a great opening drive only to mix in an extremely stupid gadget play with Antonio Brown attempting to pass and getting sacked. That stalled the drive and Josh Scobee, who would be out of a job soon, missed the FG.

9. 1/22/2017 @ New England AFC Championship Game - Loss 36-17. I'm surprised the Steelers had 17 points to show for this game because they really didn't show up. This was just after the infamous Antonio Brown Facebook Live debacle with Tomlin calling the Patriots assholes. It's always great to give the Patsies bulletin board material. Also, the fire alarm had gone off in the Steelers' hotel the night before, so perhaps it was lack of sleep. It was definitely lack of something because they truly sucked that day. The lacrosse player Chris Hogan making the Steelers defensive secondary look like total ass.

10. 9/8/2019 @ New England - Loss 33-3. Yeah, this was a lot of fun, too. Total ass whipping AGAIN. But yeah, the Patriots were cheating...   The thing I remember about this game was the mental giant Antonio Brown had just been signed by the Patriots after being released by the Raiders, but he didn't play in this game.

So, ten Steelers games in all. Four in Pittsburgh, four in Foxboro, one in Green Bay and one in Seattle. My record seeing them live is 3-7.

Not a great record, 58...approaching "jinx" status. Good think you're 2-0 watching Steelers in Boston bars with me. (Though the Steeler bar we watched at was shut down due to bad actors).

I was at that Sunday night against the ravens, curtain, and I'll bore that all of you with the story I've told told before.

TRS was a great venue for heckling the opponents upon their arrival to the stadium. Their bus would pull up to a sidewalk underneath the stadium and the players would exit into the street literally about 10 feet from whoever was assembled to heckle them. Well, I was one of the assembled hecklers on that Sunday night, and I'll actually take credit for helping the steelers win.

Vinny testaverde, at that time the ravens quarterback had talked about his development as a pro being hindered by his five interception performance in the Fiesta Bowl against Penn State after the 1982 season, denying his Miami squad the national championship, which went to Penn State instead. Well, knowing this, when Vinny exited the bus, I yelled repeatedly"hey Vinny, fiesta Bowl, Vinny Fiesta Bowl!! "Well, wouldn't you know and you can check the old play-by-play that testaverde threw interceptions on each of the ravens first three possessions whereupon was benched. so yes… I'll take credit for that win.

9. 1/22/2017 @ New England AFC Championship Game - Loss 36-17.

You may be on to something, Swiss. I have rarely seen a Steelers loss when I go out and watch them at a bar. I'll stick with that, and it's cheaper, too.

My first game was Cowher's first playoff game. We got pummeled by the Buff Bills at home on a frigid afternoon at TRS, but the Towel had been officially resurrected, hopes were high for the future, and we were ready to go on a couple decade run of relevant, entertaining Steelers football. My aunt made us Isaly's corned beef sandwiches on rye with mustard.

After that, attended games more sporadically, a lot when I was at Pitt, probably 20 or 30 in total. Things began to peter out when they started flexing tickets. Really inconvenient when you're organizing a group with different jobs, from different states, hotels, etc., and the game gets flexed to a Sunday night or worse, Monday. Happened to us twice between 2012 and 2015, and after the second one, we just stopped.

Was at some epic regular season (Bettis trucking Urlacher in the snow at Heinz always springs to mind, but Ben vs. Rodgers, crushing the Iggles at Heinz and the Immaculate Extension were fun, too) and great playoff games (AFCCG vs. Ravens, and the Jets stick out), and never saw a loss after that freezing day with Dad in January, 1993.

It was a good run, but it'd take a special opportunity to get me back at this point. Maybe in retirement.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...

You have been to some good ones ice… The immaculate extension must've been something else. As far as that Bill's playoff game I watched it from the hospital room holding my then 12 hours old Son. An extended controversial work project had just settled the day before, my son was born at night, I thought my karma was so good. There was no way the Steelers could lose, but it didn't work out that way. At the time, and I'm not saying this in retrospect. I thought cow should've stuck with Bubby under center. Neil oh fucking Donnell, who had missed two or three games, while Bubby guided the Steelers into the playoffs, sucked ass and should've been a preview of playoff performances to come

-'02 playoff v Browns (weather...couldn't make it outta Canada)

-2010 AFCCG (flight cancellations… Still pissed about that one… Had awesome fucking tickets 45 yard line deck third row)

Crazy circumstances for ya for that playoff game, man, and yeah, the vibes in the city were through the roof before that game in general. Everyone was excited, Cope made the Achy Breaky Heart parody video, the fans and the city were ready.

The Extension game tickets came about spur of the moment. We were in town visiting family, one of my cousin's buddies couldn't use their tickets and we decided what the hell, why not? We returned to the family celebration hours later like conquering heroes. Game was absolutely electric, and probably, due to age, health and distance, the last one we'll attend together. Definitely glad I went.

Gulden's or yellow?
