1.21 is fine, but I would trade up higher in the 2nd with the stockpile of third and fourth round picks.

we have way too many picks not to move up or trade them for next year.
a TE wouldn't be high on my list, but a true stud would go a long way for a safety valve if we go with howard.

Stay. The roster needs serious upgrading after Tomlin destroyed it.

Why? The Steelers have two starting grade TEs already.

They may look to replace Heyward in that Swiss-army-knife role he played.

There are several intriguing prospects they have a good chance to draft with 12 [possible] selections.

Yeah, the role players are comprised of a bunch of guys with "positional flexibility" who aren't even average at anything.

I don't expect much from McCarthy in terms of winning a championship, but my hope is no more of this "square peg round hole" stuff and instead draft talent and adapt the schemes to the players.

Trade down in the first, and then trade up for another second.

After the past 12 or so guys, there's not much of a huge difference in the crop of the next 40 players.

Trade down towards the bottom of round 1 and pick up an extra third.

Then trade two thirds to get another second.

You'd end up with:

1
2a
2b
3a
3b
4a
4b

Three top 60 picks, five top 100, seven in the top 135.
*roots for losses*

Stay in the first and trade back up to the 1st for Simpson. I would hate it but that is what I predict

Hate it more or less than just taking Simpson at 21 and standing pat after? I'm thinking your situation is actually the better of those two.

I lived that world when they drafted Kenny Pickett.

Not only was the '65 Samsung TV metaphorically shattered, my scream of "NO!!!" scared my beloved dog (RIP) while she was napping next to me on brown couch island.

Fuck you, Kenny

Fuck you, Tombert

Fuck you, Rooney

I REFUSE to EVER get that upset again over ANYTHING Steelers.

They can draft 12 quarterbacks and I won't do a damn thing other than chuckle and eat another wing.

It's been awhile since I allowed the Steelers to disturb my dog's delicate (chihuahua mix) peace. The Buckeyes, on the other hand...

its true my reaction(s) to all things Steelers is declining -- with age and with the bitter embrace of Art Rooney Mediocrity Syndrome (ARMS) also known as the Cash-Out Nutting Equation (CON(e)) . All good things must come to an end ... I guess.

If I had to weigh, drafting Tyler Simpson or giving Mike Tomlin another contract extension- I'd take Simpson... but only by the smallest margin, and that is only because he's going to suck and will be washed by the end of C1.

I like to think Big Mike has been around long enough to know that Ty Simpson ain't it.

BUT

McCarthy strikes me as the ultimate yes man.

If Art Rooney wants a quarterback picked in front of half a million drunk yinzers next Thursday night then by golly that's who it's going to be (A more hardy laugh I will not have).

If McCarthy spends even two seconds talking to Kirby Smart, there's NO WAY Carson Beck is a Steeler.

I too think it's going be Allar. Nearby Ohio/Penn State kid with the draft being in dahntahn Pittsburgh and all that we will draft an AFC Norf Quarterback talk.

I don't think there's enough beer and pussy down on the Bayou for me to survive the Brian Kelly experience but somehow Garrett Nussmeier made it through, but how scathed? Steelers love them some nepotism. With Doug Nussmeier being a former McCarthy coach can't rule out his kid being in play.

If the Steelers are going to burn a pick on a QB I prefer that blow it on an upside RAS stud like Cole Payton or Taylen Green, but yes I'm bracing myself for "Drew Allar, Quarterback, Penn State."

Are any of these QB's being mentioned better than Howard or had a better college football career. If not, don't draft them. Maybe take a flier on an athletic freak like Taylen Green in the 5th or 6th

I've wondered, if Howard was in the draft this year, where do you think he goes?

I’d say in the third

But I cannot rationally explain why he lasted until the sixth round last year

Maybe it’s the stigma of past Ohio State quarterback flops

I’m with you on all points

Particularly in agreement regarding Payton or Green

I’m not so sure they actually fit McCarthy system, but they’d be valuable coming off the bench for gadget plays, short yardage, etc.

I agree but I thought he was a 3rd rounder last year.
