Antonio Brown against the Ravens Defense This Thursday

Post by Suwanee88 » Tue Sep 09, 2014 10:11 am

Brown did all of his damage in the first half. In the second half, the Browns did everything in their power to make sure he was held in check.

“[Haden] basically followed A.B.,” Roethlisberger said. “He just turned his back to me and was his shadow and he had some help over the top. They were doing a great job of doubling him.”

We all know, including Tomllin, that the Ravens are going to throw a lot of no-huddle/up-tempo plays against our Defense on Thursday. I also think Flacco is going to attempt some deep passing routes against our D to shock and put us in a hole early on as well - our Defensive performance will be the key to this game.

But the above quote from Ben caught my eye too. I am guessing the Ravens are going to double the hell out of AB like Cleveland did in 2nd half and make Ben beat them with his young receivers. This should be a great test for Wheaton/JBrown.

If the Ravens try to double up AB in the pass game- I would also like to see Haley start using AB like Seattle is using Percy Harvin with that Jet Sweep they performed against the Packers to open things up a bit - Green Bay had no answer for it. Harvin and AB are similar players IMO.

I am also hoping they pass more to LBell - his pass catching skills are tremendous - getting that guy in space is fun to watch. This will be a playoff atmosphere Thursday!

I didn't track it but I'm pretty certain the Browns second half adjustment was playing alot of man under cover 2...my guess would be that had as much to do with Wheatons first half success as ABs big game.

Ben said they bracketed Brown with Haden playing with his back to Ben, and a safety covering Brown over the top.

Wheaton and JBrown will draw favorable looks if teams start doing that- they have to make defenses pay.

Be nice if we had a TE besides Heath.

Use A. Brown to clear the flat, then screen pass to Bell or Blount... Bet we see that a fair amount.

Obviously the Steelers recognize Heath is no longer the Heath we've become accustomed to...

I see TE being addressed next April.

When teams constantly double your #1 WR others will see favorable matchups. Time to rise to the occasion.

Are we going to see Lance Moore Thursday? Is he practicing today?

I'd much rather have DHB on a #3/4 DB than slow ass Moore. If defenses double Brown you can take the other safety out by running DHB deep. Even with bad hands defenses can't let a guy just run free.

Clears underneath for Bell, Miller, Wheaton.
Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 85 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.

I'd like to see Moore given the chance. I watched him a lot in New Orleans, and I liked the guy. Not fast, definitely injury prone, but he's smart and worked well with Brees. I could see him developing a good rapport with Ben if he could stay on the field long enough.

But if that doesn't pan out, you may very well be correct about DHB and his speed.

This could be the case as well. Knowing how to get open underneath and settle into zones coupled with good hands has it's value as well.

If he plays, don't be surprised if he's the guy Haley decides to run our first reverse with.

Can't fix stupid.

If Wheaton and Bell are going to play like they did Sunday, I hope they do double cover Brown the whole game.

Hopefully I get a chance to rewatch today...but my impression was in the first half we faced alot of cover 1 press and cover 3 press bail...pretty much looks the same with everyone but a single high within 5 yards of LOS...The second half we saw alot of cover 2 looks...2 S's about 12 yards off...my guess is this was mostly do to Wheaton's early success...because I'm fairly certain early in the game the single high was rotating to AB...and most of his yards were off screens.

Many posters on this board said that AB wasn't the kind of receiver who would draw double coverage.

Did fury install a powder room?

its all Heath's fault, at least thats the impression that Im getting. I dont think I can take a whole season of heath isnt heath anymore if only heath was still heath, heath is only a safety valve, anyone could had scored that TD even heath bitching and moaning and whining and crying.

Ladies please take your Valiums for crying out loud!

I just hope AB is playing Thursday night. The NYC sports talk and TV segment last night was about AB "intentionally" kicking the punter in the face and the general consensus was that AB would face discipline from the NFL.

I think a suspension would be ludicrous. He tried to hurtle him and was unsuccessful. Fine? Even that I have a hard time with.

If Deuce allowed that he's a real fucking douche. NO WAY that was intentional.

Team was already flagged for personal foul.

Why can't that be enough anymore???

Ya, he decided he didn't want to try to score and instead tried to kick the punter in the face.

This game is getting real close to unwatchable.

Misjudged the punters height and his vertical.

I think in keeping with Goodell's pattern of doing things, Brown should be suspended for 15 games.

Next up is Player X with a DUI manslaughter charge after he runs over someone while drunk.

He gets an automatic 25% pay increase.

Kaepernick will then get a $500,000 fine for every tattoo he has.

(It's harder work than you might think creating a random sequence! No wonder Goodell gets paid so much!)

Agree.

I hope and pray the fallout from all this results in Roger stepping down. Can't recall hating a commissioner before.

ANY punishment is over the top for that play. I couldn't believe there was a flag...I was to busy dying of laughter too get mad at the time.

I was also surprised they flagged him for unnecessary roughness and found the play itself hilarious. Next week they'll flag a RB for punching too hard when he tries to deliver a stiffarm.

I fully expected AB to get hit with some sort of fine today. I guess Roger has a lot on his mind today though. Hopefully he forgot but I wouldn't be surprised if he does get dinged in the wallet.

I can't see it happening. Goondell would have to be indulging in everclear, crack and bath salts to come up with a disciplinary action against AB.

Why I said Wheaton is the key. I expected ben, brown, and bell to be great. You still need that Wheaton/blount/Moore/brown contribution though.

Like Crosby I think lance Moore might surprise some people. Dude was always making plays in NO.

Wheaton still the key to me. He opens up a lot of things. I wonder just how good he can be. I'm also impressed with Justin brown. I expected nothing from him. He can get down field, catch and block. Son a bitch, who knew?
