Update on Ben's climb up the ladder...
In the offseason I talked of how Ben was in stealth mode, how he was climbing up the record books for all time passing yards, TDs, etc.
At the midway point of the 2014 season, here are the current active QBs rankings in passing yards all time.
2. Peyton Manning 67,098 (38)
4. Drew Brees 53,308 (35)
6. Tom Brady 51,208 (37)
18. Eli Manning 36,918 (33)
19. Big Ben 36,485 (32)
21. Carson Palmer 34,875 (35)
25. Philip Rivers 34,852 (33)
37. Tony Romo 31,354 (34)
59. Aaron Rodgers 26,289 (31)
So, Ben is in 19th place right now and only 415 yards behind Eli Manning. Interesting to note that of these 9 QBs only Aaron Rodgers is younger then Ben and only by one year. Rodgers is only one year younger then Ben and is 10,000+ yards behind him. I just do not think it is a given that Rodgers is somehow going to pass Ben down the road. He got hurt last season and missed 7 games and this past weekend he hurt his hamstring against the Saints. Tony Romo had 2 back surgeries in the offseason and is 2 years older and 5,000 yards behind Ben. I just believe that Ben will age gracefully and continue to play at a high level while his contemporaries will struggle to stay healthy and keep up.
Anyway, Ben should pass Eli this season and will pass Dave Krieg for 15th place and probably be just shy of 39,000 yards. Then with another typical 4300 yard season he will pass Dan Fouts for 11th place in 2015. With yet another 4,300 yard season in 2016 he could move into 8th place and pass Fran Tarkenton.
Over the next 40 games he could move from 19th place to 8th all time in passing yards. At the end of his 2017 season he could move into 6th place by passing his childhood hero, John Elway, and still only be 35 years old. Ben will never be able to catch up to the likes of Farve, Manning, Brees and Brady but he could probably pass Dan Marino to end his career 5th overall in passing yards. And that is pretty damn impressive when you think about how much more the other QBs throw the ball. Manning, Brees and Brady will all have 3000-4000 more pass attempts but Ben is still going to end up 5th all time.

You must be a moron if you think the thread author doesn't wish for more SB wins.
Your response just reinforces that you're the new board asshole.
Scunge, a lot of folks on this board have written Ben's career a being over at 36 due to wear and tear. "Ben is football old already."
I don't see it.
I think he plays to 38. Given the slant toward passing, there's no reason Ben can't move on up.

Brady doesn't appear to be slowing down much, but Ben could pass him if he plays as long. He's about 14,700 behind Brady...but he's 5 years younger and it would take about 4 years to pass him. Even Brees could potentially be caught if Ben plays a year or two longer than him.
As for how long Ben plays, I guess I've fallen into the trap of thinking Ben would retire because as he gets older he won't be able to extend plays and won't be as effective. We've seen, on the rare occassions he has good pass pro, that Ben can play from the pocket as well as anyone. And looking at Manning, Brady, Favre, maybe even Brees...no reason to think Ben can't play at a championship level for another 6 years.

Scunge . Thanks for the time you put into writing this.
when the stat heads who use numbers to define a player. .... start seeing his numbers pile up. .....it will make them realize he did it on an offense that was geared towards running the ball and chewing clock while playing defensive games. .... which makes it all the more impreSsive.

I don't think it is unrealistic to believe that Ben can pass Brady in career passing yards. Brady is 5 years older than Ben and less than 15,000 yards ahead of him. If you assume they both played to the same age or even if Ben played one less season, he should be able to pass him. You are correct that he will probably never pass Favre, Manning or Brees.
Also, in career passing TDs he is 24th currently with 235. By the end of the year he will probably be in the neighborhood of 250 which would put him ahead of Boomer Esiason around 18th place (assuming Rivers and Eli stay ahead of him), and next year he should crack the top 10.

The only thing I know is that we better get this extension done. I'll be pissed if I have to watch Ben continue this ladder to greatness and HOF in a different uniform. It would be the biggest mistake this franchise has ever made. It'd rank up there with the Babe Ruth trade IMO.

Must have really ground his gears, you got a TWO post response!
It seems like the media cant wrap their collective heads around Ben's overall numbers. Every time they cite an all time stat with Ben being up there, they seem shocked. "How could we have missed this?!!?
Like I said in another thread, Bens quietly sneaking up their asses while they're fiddling the the current flavor of the month's D's.

This. Records are nice. I love stats. But the Stat that trumps all is Superbowl wins, and playoff wins.
The question with a QB Ben's age is does he still have It? In Ben's case the answer is as Obvious as last Sunday, Ben is better than ever. The Steelers will want Ben. It's Ben that must feel the Steelers will give him a team that can return to the Superbowl in his 5-7 year window.

I want rings and points - not yards.
I want it all! They aren't mutually exclusive, Ben moving up these rankings could be the reason wins will happen.
It amazes me how Pittsburgh fans always want to spew hatred toward any stat milestones and act like having good stats doesn't help you win.
