I should just keep my mouth shut
I get it.
I'm a small minority here.
Some don't like to celebrate. Some don't like to give praise where praise is due. Some like to say others are better than our guys.
I get it. It's the place for that.
I'll keep quiet. Just follow the "herd". And celebrate victories. I can live with that. Honestly.

The thing about optimism is its more contagious face to face...not on the Internet so much.
When I met the McCrearys it was infectious.
I actually think the WS winner will be from the NLC or Toronto. Cubs and Cards are the biggest challenges. I have zero respect for Mets or Dodgers.

Never change MJG, never change. Quite frankly, I would rather read 1 of your posts versus 100 of the negative-nelly / debbie-downer types that populate this board in every forum.
If I want negativity and BS I can go to work or turn on the news. I watch sports to escape the BS that is work, wife, kids, world affairs, etc.
I love your attitude MJG. Never surrender never change! Screw the doubters!!!

THIS!
Stick to your guns, my brother. You are in the right here, and I know you know that.

I already apologized for going too far, but can we make a deal to agree to disagree, and that when we speak our minds (you think Hurdle is a great manager, while many of us think he is merely good with flaws that prevent him from being great), neither of us call the other out for it?
You simply say he's great, and we'll say he's good but flawed, and we'll all root for the Bucs together.
Will that work?

Dan, your meeting with the McCreary's was inspirational to me. Because of you reaction to it, more than anything. Good for you, brother. That sounds like baseball bliss.

Jeems. I did not acknowledge your apology, and I am sorry for that. It takes a big man, even though it was not necessary.
Great? No. Not yet. Best we've had in 30 years (and I do believe he's a tad better than Jimmy), yes.
We'll always agree to disagree. You're an interesting dude. I'm glad to know you. I'm more basic. I get that.
We'll always bleed black and gold, brother---Buccos, Steelers. I know it. You are a good man.
He is definitely the best manager we have had in decades, Mean Joe. I won't give him the edge over Leyland yet, but I will agree it's close.
One edge I will give him over Leyland is I do believe he gets more out of his talent than Leyland got out of his.
I think Hurdle might have gotten a championship out of those 90s Pirates' teams, and I think definitely he gets one out of the '06 Tigers.
I will also agree either Neal or Nutting holds this team back more than Hurdle does. I say Neal or Nut because I have heard rumors, that I trust, that Nutting would let Neal spend more, but Neal just doesn't do it. They may be stories floated to make Nutting look better, but I don't know.

Jeems, I do agree. I believe Skip Hurdle gets more out of his talent, such as it is, than Jimmy did when he was with us.
I loved Jimmy, don't get me wrong.
But I believe men will run through a wall more for Hurdle.

Who ultimately makes the call to leave a guy like Glasnow off the Roster? I'd like to see him getting Locke's starts like fucking yesterday!
It seems that Hurdle (or any manager) would want to have the best players at his disposal, no? That leads me to believe it's Huntington that keeps Glasnow down arguing years of control or other such bullshit. It seems like a reach to say Nutting is making this call...

I believe Pro told me Neal makes the calls, although Hurdle has input.
I like this kid Broxton, but did he really have to be protected? And do we have 40 guys up?
And we could bring Glasnow up and yet not start the clock on him, so the years of control argument doesn't wash.
Glasnow is still raw, but I've changed my mind on him- he could not really be worse than Locke or Morton, could he?

Service time starts as soon as a players gets called up...even if it is in September. It stops when he goes back down. So accruing 20 days of service time in September doesn't change a whole lot if you still plan to keep a player in the minors at the start of the next season. I think not calling up Glasnow has little to do with service time. The Pirates just don't think he is ready yet and Hurdle is going to defer to his scouts on this. They get paid to evaluate the minor league talent. He doesn't. So it is their call. Broxton has nothing to do with being protected and everything to do with being another guy on the bench available to pinch run. Florimon was that guy, but with Kang now injured you can't just waste Florimon as a pinch runner now. He might actually be needed to play defense if Mercer had to exit a game.

OK- they were saying that Broxton was called up and placed on the 40-man to protect him.
I suppose the announcers were talking out their asses then.

Well, I'm going to tell you what...I believe we have a good, possibly very good team assembled...Kudos to Neil Huntington. This team also has flaws. Mostly of the fundamental kind. IMO...stress IMO, the biggest flaw is the field boss...lack of fundamentals always falls on the man in charge.
That said, I will try my best to lay off Bubb...err, Clint Hurdle, for no other reason than to keep the peace here. Trust me...it wont' be easy for me, but I'll do my best.
MJG is right about one thing...we should be celebrating what this team is accomplishing, not trying to tear them down. I have been as guilty of that as anyone here. For that I apologize.
I have been a Pirates fan for over half a century, I love the Buccos...I love baseball, played the game competitively for over 30 years. Regardless, I'm certainly no expert. Somewhere along the line, maybe during 20 seasons of shit, I've become a jaded fan...that ends today!!!
This is one of the best teams going...despite their flaws, they are a legit world championship contender. I'm late to the party, but its time to sit back and enjoy...
Maybe I'm the guy that should've just kept his mouth shut.
LET'S GO BUCS!

The Pirates may want to protect Broxton. They were under no immediate pressure to do so. He can't be claimed until the Rule 5 draft. The Pirates wouldn't need to make a roster decision on him (or any of the pending Rule 5 eligible players) until early November. Just because he is here now doesn't mean he is a guy they will definitely use a 40 man roster spot on in the offseason. This was about getting a pinch runner on the roster. Keon Broxton has leapfrogged about 10 players on the roster as far as importance/impactfulness.

Well he made a nice impact last night...our own speedy guy who can force a bad throw from the catcher.

I have no doubt that if I met MJG in person I would appreciate, praise and not question his loyalty as I did with the McCreary clan.

Says the guy who coined the moniker Bubbles. You, sir, are the root of the cause!!
Looks like Mean Joe rubbed some dirt on it though and is back, opening supporting Hurdle 100%, and making no apologies for it!
And I'm keeping my word not to post in that thread.
But someone should go there and bump it occasionally so it stays near the top.
Mean Joe has enough positivity to more than offset all our negativity.
