Some rational thoughts on the game

Post by Legacy User » Fri Oct 02, 2015 5:04 am

Mike Tomlin coached up a team on a short week without his best ILB C QB WR K.
He made gutsy but prudent risks at the right time. I cant think of 1 thing anyone could reasonably say wasnt great. He was let down by his statwhore WR Shamtonio and Colberts guy 6th rd pick trade Josh Motherfucking Scobee.

The Defense looked damn good and hasnt been this agressive since Capers was in town. Impressive. Butler deserves big props. The made big time stops numerous times. Spence made some great plays as well as Cockrell...a guy I had in the SteelerFury Mock Draft by the way 8-)

Berry really underperformed compared to his usual, but it was nothing compared to Shamtonio and Scobee

There are the 2 big reasons we lost.

I doubt the Steelers cut Scobee......they are too damn cheap....and Colbert would have to own up that he was wrong......something he and his ilk never do.....If this season ends way prematurely.....I would bet there will be numerous Shamtonio Scobee and Colbert fuck ups leading the way

Tomlin may have coached up his players without the team Super Stars but he also doomed them making some sure fire bone head decisions that lost this game. Including having scobee trying from 49 yards. After watching this same jackass miss extra point, and other "Closer" FG kicks. Tomlin screwed the pooch tonight In My Rational Thought Process. I don't know who to Hate more at this point, Tomlin or scobee? I'll flip a coin....

Don't forget we lost our #2 WR on either the 1st or 2nd series of the game, can't remember which....thus we got to play our rookie 3rd rounder the rest of the night.

so is he supposed to punt there?....go for it?...the fact is ....short of perfection Tomlin is damned if he does...damned if dont

I cant really argue any of those 3 options.....no one rationally can given the circumstance.....however....like i said short of perfection....he gets blamed...wrongly imo.....

That's right. Forgot Wheaton was out. Any word on his injury?

They lost Markus Wheaton relatively early in the game to a sprained ankle, too.

Hard to imagine Antonio Brown wasn't getting extra attention in coverage once Wheaton went out.

Sammie Coates, by the way, was wearing a Ravens' DB like a cape on one key 3rd-down pass attempt. I assume the official closest to the play told him he's not old enough to get that call.

On a short week after losing the most irreplaceable player on offense, they called a game that should have resulted in a margin of victory of anywhere from 3 to 14 points with a reliable kicker and a jar of Stickum.

You approve having Scobee attempt a 49 yarder with 2:29 to play when a miss gives the Ravens the ball near midfield?
You approve of Mike Vick on the outside run to the short side of the field on 4th and 2?
You approve of TWO called pass plays on 3rd and 4th and 2 in Ravens territory in overtime instead of giving the ball to Bell who was averaging over 5 YPC?

He missed a 41 yarder with 2:29 to play, he missed the 49 yarder first, with 4:09 left, and your damn right I would have run him out there for both those attempts, but no way in hell would I have had him try a 51 yarder after watching him miss 2.

Was the play there on 4th down? Had Vick executed a simple 5 yard out pass would they have made the 1st down?

Would you not have had him try the 41 yarder with 2:29 left to put them up 6?

Kick ....punt....go for it....i mean.....any those woulda been ok by .me......you expect your kicker to make kicks inside 50.....Tomlin is damned no matter what he does there if it fails.....

The other plays....i wouldve prefered they worked but they didnt lose the game

Thats Scobee and Shamtonio

No, he missed the 49 yards with 2:29 to play and the 41 yarder with 1:06 left to play.

4th and 5 at BAL 31

(2:29) (Field Goal formation) J.Scobee 49 yard field goal is No Good, Wide Left, Center-G.Warren, Holder-J.Berry.

4th and 4 at BAL 23

(1:06) (Field Goal formation) J.Scobee 41 yard field goal is No Good, Wide Left, Center-G.Warren, Holder-J.Berry.

Ravens offense was stuck in the mud. Why not punt and pin them deep with 2:29 left to play? Going for it on 4th down would have been smarter than trusting a kicker that you know is struggling.

Steelers punt or kick a field goal on 4th-and-2: Tomlin's too conservative! He should have gone for it!
Steelers go for it on 4th-and-2 and don't convert: Tomlin's an idiot! Why would he call that play? He should have tried a field goal!

I agree with STD.

You have to trust your kicker to make a field goal within 50 yards. Not a gimme, but it's what you expect from a starter in the NFL.

Any game plan goes out the window when your kicker misses twice.

Cut Scobee tomorrow. But I agree with STD, I doubt they will.

I agree....by a little bit...any choice Tomlin makes there....if we dont win....he gets slammed by the low information crowd as having shouldve done the other options

its a no win situation in the light of a loss.....brilliant strategy in a win

Yep your right Perch, guess I had it backwards, but I still would have had him try the 49 yarder, but I can see the argument for either going for it or punting, maybe it turns out different, who knows. Damn sure wouldn't have had him try the 51 yarder though.

The pass rush looked good but, the D gave up 191 yards on the ground. 150 to Forsett!

However, none of the resident "experts" are bitching about this.

At that point in the game, he should have punted. That was the ballgame there.

Uh, not putting the ball into the best RB in footballs hands, with the opportunity to win the game, not once, but twice. Those calls were Pete Carrolian.
