The whole team underperforms
Listening to Stan host Madden's show yesterday, I was amused as he got riled up trying to get a yinzer admit yes or no that players should shoulder some of the blame as opposed to Tomlin.
We've talked endlessly here about Ben's performance.
But these games, these winnable games... it's not just one guy or two guys.. its the whole team. Nobody has a good game. I don't know how much emotion really matters here. I think people tend to blame Tomlin for "not getting his guys up" which I think is off the mark.
The problem is this team gets schemed into a corner that takes away all the things the players on the field do well - and forces them into more average roles. It allows the opponent to take away all their weaknesses - and even the playing field so to speak. This is where Tomlin and this coaching staff constantly fails. It's the same old story - and it seems the only time this team fights their way out of this coaching paper bag is when Ben/AB/Bryant/Wheaton catch fire.... and that only happens if the offensive line holds up.
Denver might have been one of the few times the defense changed... I believe we saw more aggressive man coverage - a simplification for the DB's - and they responded. For whatever reason they went right back to the cushion zone "tackle the catch/watch for run" bullcrap that these DB's struggle with. Again - scheming themselves into a corner against a terribly inferior opponent. I would have loved to see those second half steelers against the Patriots - or at the least for the rest of this season.
It's not just one guy, two guys failing in these games - it's in every facet... and I don't think it has to do with emotion or even attention to detail - I think this teams gameplan whether it be an adjustment (we take what they give us) or a plan from the start brings them down to an even playing field against inferior opponents. Mix in decisions that take points off the board - and you have a recipe for losing games you should win over and over again... and a track record of a team that can't win a playoff game.

If I was the owner of the Steelers...
And the Jets lost and we lost to Cleveland
I would fire that dumbfuck before the game clock hit zero.
Fucking dope

I've always said a game or two is on the players, although it certainly can be coaching for a number of reasons. But the other guys are getting paid and players are just more likely to have a bad day than a coach.
But when they same shit goes wrong and bites you in the ass again and again and again....that is 100% coaching.
I don't know if I put the BAL game on Tomlin. But I put missing the playoffs, again, 100% on Tomlin.

Absolutely. But I wouldn't even make it conditional on the other game. If they lose to the Browns Tomlin would receive notice Monday morning. It would mean they decided to take the last two weeks off.

Starkey's article from yesterday about the Steelers' arrogance hit the nail on the head: http://triblive.com/sports/joestarkey/9 ... z3vpd4JS4V

Tomlin is a farce.

Are we really surprised at this behavior by the Steelers? Again, the buck stops with Tomlin. You know, that coach that the arrogant players love so much.
Let's go back just one year when the Steelers were parading those "We Run The North" t-shirts around after having won the division. Well, that lasted a few days until the Ravens stole their lunch money. Again, arrogance.
Instead of keeping his team humble and hungry, Tomlin allows them to be the arrogant assholes that they are. Probably because the head coach is an arrogant asshole as well.

They're trying to play this smug confidence up......why not just play football and fuck all with the cute stuff

Tomlin's best hope of winning in Foxborough would be Bill Belichick and Tom Brady literally dying of laughter as they watched film of the Steelers secondary.
This is the team nobody wants to play, eh?
Nobody will, unless Rex Ryan has something to say about it. http://triblive.com/sports/joestarkey/9 ... z3vpd4JS4V
Very Nicely Done Mr. Starky. My favorite quote of the article right there.
