Some 4th round love for the offense?

Post by Scunge » Sat Apr 30, 2016 4:05 am

I could see Colbert and company throwing a bone to the offense for the 4th round.

Like an offensive lineman for Mike Munchak:

G/T Caleb Benenoch, UCLA
G/C Christian Westerman, Arizona St.
T Jerald Hawkins, LSU

Or maybe give Richard Mann another WR:

Malcolm Mitchell, Georgia
Pharaoh Cooper, South Carolina

James Saxon has Bell and Williams entering the last year of their contracts, might be nice to give him a new toy just in case:

Devontae Booker, Utah
Kenneth Dixon, Louisiana Tech
Paul Perkins, UCLA

Maybe they hedge their bets on TEs Green and James by taking a flier on:

Tyler Higbee, Western Kentucky
Jerrell Adams, South Carolina

And finally, I can't remember a time that the Steelers spent so much of an offseason checking out QBs, so maybe they are serious about a decent backup and select:

Dak Prescott, Miss St.

Please no QB.

We aren't winning shit without Ben. A 4th round QB doesn't change that.

Jones and a vet.
Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 85 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.

Cooper would be a nice add to in the 4th. They can't be comfortable with Marty being a dolt and Wheaton leaving.

Colbert said they would add a WR at some point. My guess is the 4th,

Malcolm Mitchell would be a home run, if Charles Tapper isn't there. Dak Prescott isn't better than the current #3, Dustin Vaughn. The only OL I could see would be an OT who can play OG. Don't really care to see that in rd4.

I'd make my preferences in order:
Tapper
Mitchell
Kalan Reed
Roy Robertson-Harris
Tyrone Holmes
Jatavis Brown
Matt Johnson
James Cowser
Ryan Smith

Would think it's LB or WR. But since WR seems more equipped especially w/ the addition of hybrid WR/TE Green who supplants Bong Bryant, and we lost 2 LBs in the off season (even w/ Chickillo there and maybe Zumwalt), i think it's LB in the 4th....

I think you have to go BPA but man LB is really a need right now. I don't get the love for RRH. He just doesn't seem explosive on the edge and his sack production was limited I think because of that.

Holmes has a lot of potential but has to get stronger at the point of attack. I would be very happy with him in the 5th or so.

Tapper is an enigma. He's a DT that we are hoping to use as an OLB. He's fast, but I don't see the speed translate to edge rushes. That would be a real gamble thinking he'll be a 3-4 OLB. He's more suited I think to 4-3 DE.

Tapper rushed from the edge in previous years and in passing situations. You can see it if you go through the games. Every college DE is a conversion project to OLB... why not take one who is an outlier speed guy?

RRH, same thing. They used him a lot inside but hen he got opportunities on edge, he has a lot of burst and uses his hands well. He needs coaching to use his leverage/lower pad level. The ability is there; needs refined.

I can see it scunge. OLineman or skills player would be in order. There are a few prospects I could see as BPA too.

Jones, Cardale QB 6'5" 253 Ohio St.
Booker, Devontae RB 5'11" 219 Utah
Peake, Charone WR 6'2" 209 Clemson
Cooper, Pharoh WR 5'11" 203 South Carolina
Mitchell, Malcolm WR 6'0" 198 Georgia
Higbee, Tyler TE 6'6" 249 Western Kentucky
Alexander, Vadal OG 6'5" 326 LSU
Beavers, Willie OT 6'4" 324 Western Michigan
Ridgeway, Hassan DT 6'3" 303 Texas
Billings, Andrew NT 6'1" 311 Baylor
Brown, Jatavis OLB/SS 5'11" 227 Akron
Goodson, B.J. OLB 6'1" 242 Clemson
White, D.J. CB 5'11" 193 Georgia Tech
Miller, Harlan CB 6'0" 182 Southeastern Louisiana
Powell, Tyvis FS 6'3" 211 Ohio St.
Mills, Jalen CB/FS 6'0" 191 LSU

I know we just got Hargrave, but I'd be really tempted to take Hassan Ridgeway. I think his best days are in front of him.

Yep...you just have a feeling they need to load up on the defense and sort it out within the next 2 years to give Ben a chance. After that you can lose everyone to free agency...the window will have closed.

I would sacrifice a 4th rd pick on WR or any offensive position for an edge rusher like Tapper or even another CB like Kalan Reed.

Slot WR is the main need on O... for 2017 when Wheaton is gone and Bryant is who knows?

I know you love Mitchell's value around now, but what do you think of someone like Pharaoh Cooper in the slot?

meh. Steelers sort of player but I wouldn't draft him in 4th for a team with some assets at WR. I'd sooner keep Wheaton around.

So far according to NFL .com's Chad Reuter...
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000 ... -afc-teams

Pittsburgh Steelers
Draft picks: Artie Burns (No. 25 overall), Sean Davis (No. 58 overall), Javon Hargrave (No. 89 overall)
Day 1 grade: B+
Day 2 grade: A
Overall grade: A-
The skinny: Pittsburgh decided to let Cortez Allen go, so it was no surprise that they brought in another tall, long corner to take on opponents' big receivers. Burns will get a lot of penalties unless he stops being so handsy, but the potential is definitely there. Once again the Steelers play the board well, getting another versatile, tough-nosed defensive back in Davis. I thought they might look at Hargrave in the second round to build defensive line depth, so picking him up in the third was a no-brainer.
