In his 14th season as head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals, head coach Marvin Lewis saw his 12-4 division winners plummet to 6-9-1, marking the first time the Bengals have missed the playoffs in five years.
After perusing the Bengals roster, I’ve concluded the Bengals don’t need a complete rebuild, but they definitely have several positions that can be upgraded. We’re going to start our 2017 draft by moving on from Rey Mauluga.
Ideally a top ten pick is a squeaky clean prospect, but unfortunately my favorite player in this years’ draft comes with a little dirt attached. Getting kicked out of the combine will obviously raise questions about his character, but this kid hasn’t had an easy life as he and his mother were shot in the back by Reuben’s father back when Reuben was 2. No wonder this kid plays so angry. Injuries are another red flag but I for one will never question this kid’s toughness as he played many a game this season with a torn rotator cuff, ankle sprain, and a giant club on his hand. An absolute missile from the 2nd level, a more viscous hitter you will never see.
With the 9th pick in the 2017 SteelerFury draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select, Reuben Foster, LB, Alabama

1.13 AZ - OhioSteeler picks...Corey Davis, WR Western Michigan
Conventional wisdom, and most talking heads, local and national, feel like the pick here has to be WR. That wasn't the way I was thinking going into this, though. Doug Pederson, coming up under Andy Reid, has to remember that when this offense was at its most successful, it was with guys like Westbrook and McCoy in the backfield; true three down backs, strong in all phases of the game.
Luckily, there's one of those guys sitting right here for us at 14. The Philadelphia Eagles are happy to select Dalvin Cook, RB, Free Shoe U.

The Balmer Ratbirds are in desperate need of secondary help. We also love the attitude of our selection who has declared himself the best player in the draft. We also aren't interested in the R-O-N first name test either. With the 16th pick in the 2017 Steelerfury Mock Draft, the Ratbirds select Teez Tabor, CB, Florida!

David Shaw, the Head Coach at Stanford sat down with Peter King on the MMQB podcast last year for a great interview. I walked away from listening to that interview wanting to A) hire David Shaw, and B) draft Christian McCaffrey. The whole thing is worth a listen, but I’ll pull a few relevant quotes in here from him.
One of the biggest things they talked about with Christian was the sheer numbers he put up while in college. Not only did he break Barry Sanders’ all-purpose yardage record, but the next year he led the nation in total yards without much kick or punt return yardage, because no one would kick to him.
Everyone in America knew exactly who he was, and that we were going to force him the ball, it was going to happen every single game, and the guy misses a game and a half, and still leads the nation (in total yardage) - David Shaw, Head Coach at Stanford
McCaffrey was one of the most decorated college athletes during his time at Stanford and, in David Shaw’s opinion, will go down as one of the top ten greatest college football players of all time.
Give us the wunder kid himself and the direct lineage to one of the most revered Denver Broncos in the modern era :

2 of the top 5 on my overall still on the board, 5 of top 10. Good year to be me.
Thankless task picking for this team. Between all of you drafting Steelers-type prospects and sniping me year after year and all of you considering yourselves draft experts who will find a reason to hate any pick I make AND especially in light of the fact that the Steelers often make WTF? type choices that may or may not be brilliant, viewed in the long lens of 3 or 4 years into the future.
I've been slowly won over to the age-as-consideration camp, when it comes to comparing prospects. Artie Burns, Shazier, Tuitt-- not only are these guys developing into fine players, they basically ended up with a couple of extra years of NFL experience compared to guys their age coming out 2 years later. Not only that, but their performance on tape and in combine testing seems to show that younger guys who perform well there do better later on-- the phenom effect. If you were really special, most of the time you'd have success at an earlier age than your competition.
Anyway, we all know the needs this team has and our struggles to fill some of them over the past few drafts. I decided to make a decidedly Steelers-type pick here. Not the biggest name, nor the guy everyone was mocking to them. A 21 year old, whose dedication and love for the game shows in the time he logged in the weight room, and in the reported 4-5 hours per day he spends
He has the best hands of any pass rusher working, and plays a disciplined game vs the run-- sometimes it can make it appear he is slow off the snap, even, because he's patient with the RPO reads and screen game. However, when he gets the green light, his first step gets him past the OT and his hand work gets him inside. He needs some maturity to get more physical as a finisher, but he has no problem tackling and sacking the football. I head people say he can't move well enough, but he dropped at times into coverage and looked balanced and comfortable. I heard FC say he's strictly left handed and can only play on the left side, but he absolutely crushed it on the right side at the Senior Bowl-- got better each practice and was the game's Most Outstanding Player. In two years he'll be a top 3 edge rusher in this class, and maybe top 2 3-4 OLB in the class.
With the 30th selection in the 2016 SteelerFury Board Mock Draft, The Pittsburgh Steelers select:

Jordan Willis, OLB, Kansas State

watching film to figure out opponents’ tendencies as well as tendencies of NFL players he looks up to. He said he has seen every defensive end in college and the NFL at some point. "That’s just something that I do because I know everything I can about my opponent.”

With the 31st pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select:

Taco Charlton.
The Michigan defensive lineman will take over instantly as the starting strong-side defensive end for the likely-to-be-cut Tyson Jackson in base sets. In nickel sets, Charlton will play right defensive end, left defensive end and even some defensive tackle at times. Atlanta likes Charlton's combination of solid run defense and length. They also like the idea of a pass rush set that would feature Charlton, 2016 NFL sack leader Vic Beasley and interior disruptor Grady Jarrett long-term.
