Urban Meyer Question

Post by Legacy User » Thu Jan 15, 2015 9:38 pm

After Urban Meyers success with his QB's this year it made me wonder...

How many of Urban Meyers QB's are in the NFL and currently starters or on an active roster?

I'm not sure if he was recruited by him, but Alex Smith was drafted when Urban was in Utah and absolutely helped his career.

Coaching Alex Smith up to the point where he was drafted number one in a draft that featured Aaron Rogers says something. As does making Tim Tebow look like a first round pick. Neither of those have a shadow of the talent of JT Barrett or Cardale Jones, though, so I'm not sure where this is going.

Guess you could count Alex Smith, but again not sure how much impact Urban had on him. If we count him that's one, unless you guys want to count Tebow lol. Urban's offense isn't a pro style offense so his QB's don't usually do well in the NFL.

I always like Alex Smith, he was in a tough spot in San Fran... I cant remember how many OC he had.

Tebow was one hell of a college QB in Urbans system... He should have never been drafted as high as he was. One of those stupid mistakes when someone overreaches for a player.

I really like Barrett and I think he will win that starting job.

Alex Smith.

Cam Newton (well, he was recuited by Meyer).

Paul Kruger (who he converted to a defensiveman).

That's all I can think of.

Barrett probably by a pretty big margin the best pure passer Coach Meyer has had. Cardale has the potential to not be too far off.

I think it was something crazy like 5 OC's in 5 years. Must've really sucked for him having to learn a new offense every year. Makes me wonder how many good QB's that never had a fair chance have been washed out of the NFL because of poorly run front offices. Or how many guys who would've been great never even got a shot because they sat behind higher draft pick guys representing large monetary investments that FO's wouldn't be willing to bench.

I still throw up in my mouth a little bit when I see him or hear the name, God (no pun intended) that loss sucked.

Especially since he threw for 316 yards with the same bible verse in his eye black. 31.6 avg per completion also.

Tim Couch is the first one that always comes to my mind.

I agree 100%. I've often wondered what that dude could've been if Cleveland hadn't ruined him.

A noodle-armed, chuck and duck system QB that busted out for some other team of suckers? Still, probably better than Akili Smith. By a little. God, some overrated QB prospects that year.
