The Allen fake slide

Post by Greeksteel » Tue Jan 16, 2024 4:12 pm

Mentioned this along with others in the game thread...what a bunch of bull shit that was, and then later on in the game he slides and fakes actually being hit and cries for a flag. I know he has always cried for flags, the fake slide was the first time i have personally seen him do. In spite of being very talented, i lost a lot of respect for him last night. What a giant pussy.

Not only should Josh Allen be ruled down where he gave the impression he was going to slide, he should be flagged for a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty from that point. The
@NFL
needs to do something about this type of stuff. It's embarrassing.

Totally agree with this take, league needs to do something about this.

Pretty sure it was Kenny Pickett's fake slide in the ACCCG his 3rd senior year at Pitt that got the play banned in NCAAF.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...

Eh, we all lauded KP for doing this that 1 time at Pitt. I applaud teams for bending the rules like this.

Agree

Also agree with those who say the league needs to do something about this. QB's running amuck with zero fear is ridiculous. Or just put flags on them.

Did he fake slide or stutter step? Just looked like he slowed down to me.

Clearly leans back to fake the slide and then immediately steps on the gas.

I thought the 3 yard run and slide was more egregious. They need to fix that rule too. Take 2 steps and slide and the defender is supposed to stop. Jack did let up, but that gets into the impossible realm.

I hope he gets earholed and they lose!

My problem is that this is such a grey area and defenses are damned if they do / damned if they don't.

I'll go one better, a QB can't slide after 10 yards. he's a runner after 10 yards for complete all out hitting. Inside, slide, hit is a flag

looked like he slowed down to lower his butt down...........

you be a defender and decide in a millisecond if he is slowing to slide or just pausing....
knowing you leave you feet to dive and tackle him....
that once he does slide.....you are already committed to hitting him....
and need to contort and stop your body mid air to avoid hitting the QB.

watch the second one.....forget who....
but they were already leaving their feet in Allens direction before he slid.

ridiculous.

Get the league front office suits, rule makers, officials etc...... in full gear, actual helmet on.....tell them to run full speed at a tackling sled..... and not stop until you are told to or hear a whistle......and that whistle may not be until a half second or less before you are about to hit the sled.....

I see alot of knocked out and concussed front office suits, rule makers and officials laying on their backs with stars in their heads......

Now do it again while we hose down the turf.........

One ore time with real loud crowd noise pumped in that buffers your hearing.........

Now do it one more time after running 2 or 3, 15-20 yard sprints so you are tired, huffing and puffing,

Now do it after an hour of sweat is filling you helmet......you are tired and your body is not reacting like it was when you first walked on the field.....

THIS HAS TO BE FIXED...

Better yet....
Once he crosses the LOS.....
how many time do we see a QB making an angle towards the sideline.......defender slows up and QB then hook a left to grab 3 more yards with the ball sticking out to cross the first down marker. Mahomes has master it,

^ You forgot to include 70,000 people screaming at you while this is happening. Otherwise spot on.

I keep banging this drum ad nauseum, but I'll say it again - The problem with current NFL rules is that they've removed all agency from the offensive player. The NHL, for all its faults, at least acknowledges that the offensive player (puck carrier) has a responsibility to protect himself.

I'll add this: When he had the chance, it appeared to me that Pat Pete wanted very little to do with tackling 250 lb. Allen. I know PP has lost a step from his 4.3 speed, but he isn't that slow. Also, when tackling opportunities came his way last night, he did his best to stay off the ground by arm tackling and slinging whenever he could. A total pussy effort on his part, imo. I was embarrassed to have PP on my Steelers team last night. But hey, Tomlin absolutely loves him and gave him plenty of chances to shine against the Bills (as I knew Tomlin would) -- somehow, I'm sure Tomlin thinks he did (just like Najee and Harvin did) .

Fake or not, there wasn't a potential tackler within 8 yards of him (aside from the one being blocked). Even if it was a fake slide, they had more than enough time and space to realize it wasn't a slide and make a tackle.

Agree on all points, Stosh! I'm an advocate for no sliding whatsoever. YOu want to run like a RB, you take the consequences like a RB does. But perhaps that 10 yard rule that Dumblin... advocates is a good one. I hate that extra 6 or 8 yards QB's get now running out of bounds when DB's are forced to let up lest they get a flag. It's contrary to the spirit of the game of trying to kill the QB...lol

The worst no call on this play was Rowe, #25 getting held just as Allen ran by him at the LOS, usually blatant holes in the wide open get flagged.

Does not look like a fake slide so much as him changing his mind not to slide. Similar to Manning years ago in the Denver playoff game. He gave himself up in the pocket for a sack, but then realized no one was around, so he got back up and threw for a 1st down.

The idea of becoming a full on runner over 10 yards makes sense. Could require a guy to go head first at that point, or say that the slide rule no longer provides all the same protections. Puts some of the agency on the ball carrier to protect himself if he's beyond the 10yds.

I would add no slides outside the numbers or hashes. Maybe even the tackle box.

Some of you are very gullible imo, that is a clear fake slide, get the defender to relax becuase i know im protected by that stupid QB protection rule type of move. Clear as it gets.

That was just a big white making a cut or stopping and changing directions Not pretty

But the hit on him late was bullshit. And no shocker he got up crying for a flag. He does it all the time.
