I put this in the same category as an owner saying they are going to stick with there guy, then firing said guy 3 days later....I'm sure if the right job became available, then Tomlin would take it.

Nope not an int
By the letter of the rules yall keep quoting?
Sure
Still convoluted and twisted just like every other NFL rule
Whole situation was handled poorly (shocking)
I’m not a Bills fan (yet) but their fans have a legit beef
Anyway
Silver lining for me is Johnny Harbs jumping on the Giants gig cost him a shot at coaching Josh Allen
I hope Harbs is lying somewhere curled up in a ball crying over that missed opportunity

Tomlin will not see a better job available for him than this Buffalo job.StillerDownSouth wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 3:31 pmswissvale72 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 3:13 pmShefter remains adamant that Tomlin's NOT coaching next year.

Superstar QB. Great RB. Hit on another WR in the draft, upgrade the defense with some Tomlin mercenaries like Ramsey and boom!

Tomlin doesn't have a coaching tree. He doesn't even have a branch that fell off. He's not on anyone's speed dial.
Daboll failed miserably in NYC.Greeksteel wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 3:31 pmThe Bills next coach will be Brian Daboll is what im reading.
That would be a shocker for him to follow McDermott.
Joe Brady wouldn't be great either but makes more sense than Daboll.

You're right. I mentioned Cowher, but Arians would also be a better choice for the Bills than Mikey T.

Talking to NFL executives around the league about Buffalo’s next head coach options, the name that keeps coming up is a familiar one, a Buffalo native and someone Josh Allen loves: Brian Daboll.
how stupid would tomlin look by coming back and coaching any team?
would prove that he got fired.
prove that it wasn’t his choice.
prove that he lied about ‘family’ time.
prove that he lied to rooney.
prove that he could only win with another teams great players and coaches.

Yes, but the advantage to Tomlin coaching in Buffalo is that he would be a short drive down I-79 from the new baby.sowhat wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 3:41 pmhow stupid would tomlin look by coming back and coaching any team?

If Buffalo had to give the Steelers compensation, that would prove that Tomlin walked away on his own.sowhat wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 3:41 pmhow stupid would tomlin look by coming back and coaching any team?

...and I honestly believe he did walk away on his own. Art wasn't firing Cool Shades.
I don't even believe Tomlin had an edict to win a playoff game or whatever. I think Tomlin got out while the getting's good.
Next year's squad is very, very, very likely to be considerably worse than what we just witnessed.

Plus the further he got into his tenure, the more control over dfat picks and FAs to build the roster of "talent he had to work with"Dan Smith--BYU wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 3:27 pmSo now the thesis is that Tomlin got the most out of untalented teams. Even though he fails repeatedly to cover spreads in big games.
Then explain losses to Girrard Bortles Tebow and Cleveland in playoffs.
He repeatedly shit the bed and lost badly in the playoffs to mediocre teams and wasn't competitive against NE at all.
Even the 18-16 win against the Chiefs his last playoff win was a disappointment given that was peak Killer Bees.
He way to often chose a good story, a nice guy, a prospect of a friend, etc....
Failed to develop young talent....8 of 11 1st picks ( 2013-2023 ) not seeing a 2nd contract is a huge FAIL and led to the talent he had to work with.

possibly. i think knocking up that bartender threw a wrench into rooneys gamelan and they needed to come up with a plan that saved face for both.K_C_ wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 3:54 pmIf Buffalo had to give the Steelers compensation, that would prove that Tomlin walked away on his own.sowhat wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 3:41 pmhow stupid would tomlin look by coming back and coaching any team?

however, it still would prove everything else on my list, which i think is more damaging to tomlins character.
seems Owners are taking notice of the current success of new and younger coachesSteelperch wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 2:43 pmBills won 8 playoff games in 9 seasons, were competitive in every game and that wasn’t good enough for them.
Steelers won 0 playoff games in 9 seasons and got blown out even single time, yet were excited to run it back with Tomlin.
Bills would be absolute morons to want a clearly inferior coach like Tomlin. I’d imagine they have one of these young innovative coaches in mind as an upgrade. Thats what smart franchise do.

Buffalo hiring Tomlin would be like the Wolves or Cavs or one of the close but no cigar NBA teams hiring Doc Rivers because he won once in the late aughts.
The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.

On its face firing McDermott doesnt seem to make sense -- losing that game wasnt on him
But, he may have been part of the decisions on thier WR problems and --- they just cant get over the Hump and need to try/change something with the bit of time they have left with Allen,
Tomlin absolutely is not the Man for the Job - but maybe they are dumb
The Tomlin SB wasnt just Ben -- that team was Stacked ... top to bottom with difference making players
Tomlin is a full on Paradox and/or full on full of shit
His statements a the end to the Team to me were telling in this regard and IMO.
He said -- he wasnt the person who could take them any further. As in ... His Philosophy wasnt working ... so instead of changing it, he gave-up?
His 100% refusal to Change anything is the biggest question around him IMO?

The idea that Tomlin is somehow the least bit special because of one SB win (over a 9-7 team in a year Brady was out) in 19 years is tortured sentimentality (and a desire to be PC) over objective mathematical literacy.

Joe Brady could be an in house option fulfilling the ‘criteria’ of a young and developing offensive minded coach to a ‘t’.Gonzo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 4:16 pmseems Owners are taking notice of the current success of new and younger coachesSteelperch wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 2:43 pmBills won 8 playoff games in 9 seasons, were competitive in every game and that wasn’t good enough for them.

As to the alleged affair and baby, maybe they worry that he will hit the bars looking for another pretty single bartender, stay out late, and not be focused enough to do the job - sleep at his desk like he has been with the Steelers for the last 10 years.
There was a time when hiring the young coach and inexperienced coach was a risk and the Rooney's were kind of out there on doing that. Those days are long gone.
If you fired your coach in Buffalo I don't see how Tomlin would be the answer as others have said. But it's about as attractive of a job as any if you can handle the pressure of Super Bowl or bust every year.

And
That the nfl seriously needs to better clarify what is and isn’t a catch
I got a shrug in return
Of course we know the nfl purposely creates ambiguity with the way rules are written
C'mon man!
It was a catch not an INT. "Surviving the ground" LOL - he caught it and his ass was on the ground and he was down by contact.
BUT, if you really want to play this BS game, then the catch in the Rams/Bears game was an INT not a catch.
See, the problem is inconsistency in officiating and rule interpretation.
And another problem is how the refs/NFL handled the catch/INT in the Bills game. They moved on as quickly as possible.
With the huge growth in gambling none of this is a good look for the NFL. And it's only going to get worse.
As for Mediocre Mike coaching the Bills, they aren't that dumb. And Tomlin knows his days as a head coach in the NFL are over. Until he gets the urge to be one again which likely will happen next year.

Wish the Steelers would have done the same thing to Tomlin after the Tebow game, that was the time to do it and would have given Ben a chance with someone else.
I completely agree with that being an interception in isolation. That ball popped out of his hands and into the DB's like instantly. You have to establish possession to be down by contact. I've seen plays where more was done on that front go the other way than this one.6Trophies wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 5:43 pmC'mon man!

But the main issue isn't the individual call but the accumulative impact of the inconsistency in how these things get called.
It'd have been a real tough sell after the Tebow game. He was a year removed from making it to the Super Bowl and we all know his approach didn't help them in that one. Just a few years from winning it.StillerDownSouth wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 5:47 pmGonzo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 4:31 pmOn its face firing McDermott doesnt seem to make sense -- losing that game wasnt on him

Wish the Steelers would have done the same thing to Tomlin after the Tebow game, that was the time to do it and would have given Ben a chance with someone else.
But if the media didn't despise Ben or if Tomlin wasn't who he is and beloved by the media there definitely would have been way more heat no him in the Killer B's era to get them over the top. It was just far easier and cleaner and preferable to the talking heads to blame Roethlisberger or injuries.
