Do all teams' message boards argue this much over backup QBs? I look at these guys like I look at politicians. No need to pick sides. They all suck.

When your starter is almost 40 and struggled like a motherfucker the second half of last season and is coming off a 4 INT performance in a home playoff ass beating to your arch rival, back up QB's can become pretty important.

If Ben was 27, nobody would be worried about the back up QB situation.

If any of these guys have to play meaningful games, the only thing left to see is where we will be picking in the draft. Well that and whether Tomlin will lose his non-losing season streak.

Well, right now, Haskins is wowing everyone in camp. The guy was a recent 15th overall pick in the entire draft. He can play. If his maturity level has improved and he is dedicating himself to preparation and learning how to be a starter, the Steelers might not be picking a QB early in the draft next April. I also believe Rudolph can win games if he needs to, although I have serious doubts he is the answer as "the guy" after Roethlisberger hangs em up.

I think we're going to be pretty darn good at the back up QB spot and have guys that can win games if Ben struggles or can't go.

Was SHOCKED to see the cable guide description for the game "....future Hall of Famer Ben Roethlisberger enters his 18th season..."

I'm sure whomever captioned that didn't know better, but you really shouldn't headline the guy when he isn't even going to be dressed for the game.

19 potential inactives tonight... mostly stars/vets, and Benny the Snail. If it's an injury, that's not good news for him.

One other difference is that one still plays in the NFL.

Same could be said of hundreds of NFL players. At some point, their careers end.

Some are shorter than others.

Shelf life for NFL football players is short because there is a whole new shipment of product in the spring. Most all of them cheap. Nobody will want LJ because as a third or second string QB, and won't be seeing the field, hopefully. He needs to be a game manager, and you can more control a rookie than a 5 year vet whom you didn't groom. Not a GM here, just guessing.
