2023 SF Board Mock Draft - comments

Post by bradshaw2ben » Fri Mar 17, 2023 5:56 pm

WELCOME TO THE 20th (at least) ANNUAL BEST DAY ON THE SITE!

We will have a soft start (no clock) on Sunday afternoon, March 19th/evening. The clock will start 8am Eastern on Monday morning, March 20th.

Image

The clock will be a little shorter again this year: 90min for rounds 1-3, 1 hour for 4-7.
We've been 90% picking in 30 min or less the last few years, and it's only been a few outlier picks that held things up. If you miss your turn, you'll be skipped just like the real draft; you may pick any available player as soon as you are able to pick. The clock will run from 8AM-10pm Eastern, although special consideration given for west coasters in the AM. Picks can be made at any time.

DRAFT PICKS ORDER and OFFICIAL PICKS:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21517

AVAILABLE PLAYERS LIST (not comprehensive and sometimes slow to update), just to help keep track): viewtopic.php?f=4&t=21514

***IMPORTANT NOTE***
Not all eligible players are listed and not all players listed are eligible. It should be 99.9% correct, but the COVID extra year confusion is real. I will eliminate any prospect on the list that I know is not in the draft/returned to school. Generally, I am going by draftscout's draft year. They seem to be the most thorough with checking. If you have any questions, let me know and I will give you a ruling.

Pick only on the other thread. Announce any trades at the beginning of your pick selection post. If you are up for including a description, scouting report, photo, GIF, or video for your selection, go for it. If not, that's okay, too. I may add a photo for you if I have a good one.

This thread is perfect for questions, comments, corrections, and complaints, but we're also adding a wrinkle this year: A dedicated chat here on the site for talking amongst ourselves, trade notices, comments, etc. Access the chat from the menu bar at the top on desktop or via the lines button in the menu on mobile.

This thread and the chat room (see below) are great for questions or trade offers or comments.

This year we’ll have a dedicated chat for the draft comments, trade talk, etc.
Check it out here or in the menu in upper right:

app.php/chat

FOR PICKS ONLY, please use THIS THREAD: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21517

THIS google drive spreadsheet HAS THE PICKS, PROSPECTS SELECTED, PROSPECTS AVAILABLE, PICKS BY TEAM< PICKS BY POSITION AND MORE. It may not be as up-to-date as the thread but I will try to keep it going. If anyone else would like to have the power to update it and has the time to do so, please let me know and I will give you editing permissions:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing[/b]

RULES:
Trading picks and SIGNED PLAYERS UNDER CONTRACT is allowed, but no future year picks, please. Please run the trades by me or SteelPerch if there's any doubt about their legality or fairness. I reserve the right to veto if there's a problem, especially when trading players. Be realistic enough and there will be no problems.

That said, I can also help facilitate a trade via texts or twitter for anyone who's hard to reach. At this point I have texts for 28 of you, I think, and twitter only for 2. Everyone is registered here so easy enough to contact each other, even for you non-social media Luddites. Try to get your trades roughed out before you're on the clock, because the receiving team doesn't get a fresh clock when the trade is made.

You can also send me a list of picks before your turn and I will use it to select for you. In fact, you can even send me lists with complicated instructions like : "if both these SS are gone, then pick this guy, unless the Browns pick a LB, in which case select the EDGE rusher first." You may laugh, but I have gotten more or less this instruction before.

Also note: I try not to see your listed players before I have to go to the list. I won't open your DM or scroll down your text if I get the gist you'll be listing players. I don't like to know before I pick, so I won't intentionally or unintentionally select your player and face your wrath. For that reason, if you have a question that's not a "picks list", be sure to use a subject line in DMs that doesn't say "my list".

I'm going to try and list the picks in a thread on twitter, so if you have a twitter handle, then please pass it on to me so I can tag you in the thread.

Any new real-life trades will be added if it seems appropriate. Trades that happen IRL after we start the draft will only be included if:
A. the picks haven't already been traded or used in this board draft AND
B. both parties involved agree

Cheers and good drafting to all!

Special thank you and welcome to our guests for this year's mock:

San Francisco is GMed by Jolene (@ugandasjoy01 ) and Denver by Gabe--I think-- (@BlueridgeBronc1 ). Both of these fine contributors are diehard Denver Broncos fans who Korey & I have done various Twitter mock drafts with, so you know they're vetted! Please welcome them aboard and try to explain the inside jokes.

FYI for the new folk: we've been at this for a long time. I think the first one on the site was 2003. I have taken part every year since 2004. Most of us have been drafting in mocks together since before Twitter had even been conceived on a napkin.

The original OG of the draft here is our former podcast co-host FC, who has dropped off the map since September. I'm still holding out hope that he'll show up last minute but it's a drag to contemplate doing this without him for the first time. SteelPerch, as far as I know, has been doing this from the beginning as well... there are some old hands here.

To that end, there are some distinct personalities that really mirror the actual draft. The crazy analytics people, the deep dive tape watchers, wheeler-dealers, the Crazy Eddie "EVERYTHING MUST GO!!!" types, the careful quiet ones who just clean up BPAs who somehow haven't been picked.

Me? I'm a planner and contrarian, as everyone here well knows.

If you like how this goes, be sure to join us later for what has become our other exercise of madness, the Draft-A-Team mock, where a bunch of us draft a whole team of 24 starters from this year's draft class. It is definitely the best way to learn about the late-rounders, UDFAs, XFF/USFL/CFL guys etc. It's a blast, actually.

Thanks again for running the show, b2b.....and a hello/welcome to Jolene and Gabe!

Now on to business.....sitting at the #8 pick, ATL is possibly interested in trading back in the first round (anywhere from pick #9 thru #20-ish or so...maybe farther) if anyone is interested in getting into the top 8 picks. Of course, we would wait to finalize in real time, but I'm open to preliminary talks/offers.

PM me if you're interested. Good luck and happy drafting!

Although the Jets Jizz Mop war room have 3 guys targeted, our team will listen to reasonable and rational offers.

Although years of losing is our history, we won’t be bamboozled by some city slickers.

Patriots checking in to state our general desire to use our 11 picks to trade up, and possibly trade for players under contract.

A little bird told me if Washington hadn’t gone at 4, he would have 100% been gone in the next 10 picks.

I mean I guess I could see him sneaking into the late first round in the real draft, but he’s more likely a second rounder.

IDK, it wouldn't surprise one bit if he goes in the 20 or so. Hell, it wouldn't upset me terribly if we traded back to 19-22 and took him. Even before STD was on Washington's jock, I kept telling this board (my daughter goes to UGA, so I've seen his every snap) that outside of QB he might be the most valuable piece in this draft. He automatically improves three position rooms when you add him to your roster.

Take the Steelers for example. He would replace Gentry as TE2. Not only does he push Muth for TE1, he is immediately your best OT3 as your BEST blocking TE. He makes both tackles exponentially better when he's lined up next to them -- whether he's full-on blocking or just chipping (that's a big ass chip). He also makes your WR room better. He's a good pass catcher, has the tools/work ethic to become a very good one, and has the athleticism to run decent routes -- not to mention a major bitch to bring down once he gets rolling!

As Tomlin says: "it's all about the more you can do."

I don't think there's a more bang for your buck player in this draft.

Ok, so in real life, w Young and Levis on the board, the Colts take Washington? At 4? Think that pick was made from a meth lab in Lancaster.

Washington and Woods on the field is a mismatch tandem every team in the NFL is gonna have problems with in every situation of the game

I had another player targeted and I almost had a trade that would’ve given me enough ammo to move up and grab him and then move up again for Washington

I would’ve had zero problem taking either at number 1

I just drafted for the Colts in a Twitter draft. I also passed on QB. Their roster is so so bad and so so depleted. Their best defensive player may never recover from last year’s injury. I 100% support them tanking for ‘24 they’ve got a great shot at an elite QB prospect next year. Rebuild the roster this year bring a QB in a better situation next year.

However I love the Colts existing TEs without Allie-Cox, so I wouldn’t have drafted a TE. But that’s me.

Wager #2:

We’ve already got the “Skoronski won’t be taken before pick 17”

Can we add “Colts won’t take a QB at 4?”

Real life draft I’m talking about

Woods looked every bit of his big potential anytime he touched the ball imo. I was big on Wydermyer the beginning of his senior year and he faded. His rookie pro year wasn’t great Imo.

I say it all the time.

One or 2 mismatch units/tandems can win big games against good teams

Woods and Washington in tandem would be a BIG problem for every team in the nfl
