Gentry also just released.
I was about to post earlier that it may be a tough day for guys with names starting with "G".
Green -- traded
Gentry -- cut
Gunner -- ?

Gentry gone, per Josina Anderson. Man, this team has really done a good job getting rid of its scUM players this offseason. Cheers!

Trading Green for a 6th rounder, which will likely be a high 6th round pick, is grand larceny.
Now i wonder if we could keep Rodney Williams.
I honestly would have taken a case of Blatz and a tackling dummy for Green!StillerDownSouth wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 6:40 pmTrading Green for a 6th rounder, which will likely be a high 6th round pick, is grand larceny.
Maybe even just the Blatz.
How fucking stupid are the Texans???

Well, if we are to judge strictly by whose been released by this point, Jacksonville & the Giants have pretty good rosters. Quite a few guys from both of those cut lists that would upgrade the bottom of Steelers roster.
I'm all about Mac McCain or Biggers for the Steelers slot role. And lo the army of good TE prospects getting released.

Re: Gentry
The good part is that is clears the way for Washington to get many more snaps as a rookie.
My only concern would be Muth going down and especially early.
Is Washington able to start as TE #1??
I think Gentry had some value in that regard. Not going to bellyache over it but I think I would have let him finish out that one year deal and then move on.
Will see what moves are made from here.
I do like we will now see more of Washington and more of Heyward who has shown worthy of getting more snaps.
If this offesne isn’t significantly better this year there had better be multiple coaches on the offensive side of the ball fired.
We have the talent to be a good offesne. Up to the coaches now to play some chess instead of checkers.

Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 88 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.

I think they have something in Rodney Williams.955876 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 6:51 pmRe: Gentry

Williams showed well as a blocker. Also, there are about 5 receiving TE prospects with decent blocking ability who just went on the market in the last 24 hours. I mean, some really good TE prospects.
Camren McDonald, EJ Jenkins, Jacob Harris, Gerriitt Prince, Devin Asiasi

Eagles just released their only Punter, Arryn Siposs.
OK Weidl, be the "man", work your magic, and trade Mann to them for a '24 late rounder.

Well, he does officially have a cool nickname and that always moves the needle.jewelsongs wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 6:53 pmI think they have something in Rodney Williams.955876 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 6:51 pmRe: Gentry

Williams hasn’t really been on my radar at all. If he has shown to be an upgrade to Gentry (especially in the passing game) I’m all for it.

I like what he's done this preseason, especially on STs. Interested to see if he's in the 53. Could be.
Holy shit!
Dotson traded…Green traded!

Gentry will be 27 by week 1.
4 years on the team and ZERO TDs....
Would have thought at 6'-8" he could have been somewhat of a RZ target.
Plus he had almost half the number of ST snaps as he did in 2021
signed a 1 year $1.4 contract.
$152 k signing bonus = dead cap.
$1,247,500 base salary savings.
Williams is 25.
Not the 6'-8" - 270 monster that Gentry was.
But, at 6'-4" and 235, more athletic.
$750k salary, bottom of the roster that does not count?
So some cap savings vs. Gentry, and younger.

I don't see Williams making the 53. Could be wrong. He seems like a Practice Squad guy to me.

Part of the reason for the bolded was due to Pat F. missing games in '22, so Gentry was playing more O snaps as the defacto starting TE.Stosh-67 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 7:31 pmGentry will be 27 by week 1.

I think they really like him (Fredo does), and see him as a guy that the light might be coming on for -- on the come, as MT would say.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 7:45 pmI don't see Williams making the 53. Could be wrong. He seems like a Practice Squad guy to me.
Fehoko, kwiatkoski, norwood gone.

Dime a dozen guy, though. Likely inactive on game day.
Good for Dylan Cook. Earned a spot. Surprised about Kwiatkowski but he'll land somewhere.

I do not see heading into the season with only Mooth and Washington as big bodied TE'sbradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 7:45 pmI don't see Williams making the 53. Could be wrong. He seems like a Practice Squad guy to me.
Do not see only 3 TEs,
specially with Heyward on the small side and the roll he will be playing.

Like I said, practice squad guy who would be available if one of the other guys is hurt long-term.Stosh-67 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 8:13 pmI do not see heading into the season with only Mooth and Washington as big bodied TE'sbradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 7:45 pmI don't see Williams making the 53. So Braden Mann made the team? Carrying 2 punters? Trade incoming?

Rumor has it. The Steelers are down to 53. Includes both punters. They must be hoping for a trade to the Eagles. Holding out to get something for him if true. Khaun Artist move maybe.
we didn’t really get anyone from our roster through to our practice squad last year. May have just been a weird year, but i’m not relying on that moving forward.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 8:14 pmLike I said, practice squad guy who would be available if one of the other guys is hurt long-term.Stosh-67 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 8:13 pmI do not see heading into the season with only Mooth and Washington as big bodied TE'sbradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 7:45 pmI don't see Williams making the 53. So, on...
O: Gunner & Cook
D: Adams, Watts, Milk, Pierre, Sullivan, Riley
...all make it.
edit: oh yeah....Mann too!

The Steelers are keeping two punters? Weird.

Am I reading correctly the Steelers have not cut Mann?
SteelerDayTrader, who is currently on your ignore list, made this post.
think of the trickeration. We’ll be able to punt from any down and any distance this season.
