Wow. Steelers fired Canada
Re: Wow. Steelers fired Canada
Maybe Canada is an asset in the kitchen and can now focus on helping his wife with the turkey.
Fuck him
Hope he has pumpkin pie and doesn’t realize they forgot whipped cream until it’s too late

I'd argue
Matt Canada = QB killer
He had multiple QBs start in this Offense from HOFer Big Ben to Mason to Mitch to Kenny P and regardless of the QB, the Offense went nowhere. In his multi-year tenure, his team NEVER had 400 yards of Offense. No matter how bad your QBs are, that is a huge indictment on the OC.
I don't know if Kenny ever had a chance to be good or not but we may never know. He certainly wasn't coached up and this Offensive scheme did him (or any other QB) no favors.
I doubt there will be any significant changes this year as it's hard to change mid season so the next big question is whether you give him a season under a real OC or not.

In all seriousness... despite the numerous obvious problems and other problems that one could say were obvious tea leaves, examples such as
1) Other teams yelling out loud enough for the mics to pick up that "It's the same damn plays".
2) Other teams giving post game interviews on knowing exactly what the Steelers were going to run.
3) According to statistics, last in the league in open guys
4) A second year in which the running game had to get back to basic things every team also does to start running effectively
5) Numerous outbursts over the past 2 years from players and frustration with the offense.
6) "Meetings" where offensive lineman have to get together to go over with a coach on what's not working.
The biggest strike to me, is a practice squad guy who talked about a complete lack of detail not only in the Steelers playbook (in comparison to the one he had at Green Bay), but also a lack of detail or knowledge when asking coaches about that detail.
This is the biggest failure of Matt Canada. Everyone sits here and picks apart what "could be" open during a play, and we talk about why Pickett is missing them...
I think the reason is, there isn't anyone in this offense, QB included, who has any idea of the purpose, direction, goal of any given play. There are no reads... there are no route adjustments... they don't exist. When Dionte Johnson says on twitter "I ran the route I was supposed to", that's because there was no other route. Matt Canada wrote a high school offense, used it in college, failed... and then was installed as offensive coordinator of the Steelers because he recurited Mike Tomlin's kid at Maryland.
Players know, they see it... some of them probably came from more complicated and complete offenses with far more attention to detail in college, and having to answer to Matt Canada had to be frustrating.
It may take a bit to break through and gain that level of NFL detail this offense needs, but this was step 1, you had to get rid of the guy.
A friend has a family member whose name you probably know in the org, this guy said everyone hates Canada... but he's Tomlin's guy. To me, this tells me someone doesn't want Tomlin to have the control he once enjoyed.

This is where I land too. My guess is that if KP8 shows meaningful improvement over the rest of the season he gets next year. Big if at the moment. And the leash is not getting any longer, that’s for sure.Stillerz Bar wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 7:31 pmI'd argue

This wasn't something because of Pickett... it was Canada's offense.

I'd contend till the day that I die that Mike Tomlin signed off on all that. He's seen what NFL offenses are supposed to look like. He coached with Jon Gruden. If the Steelers offense was simple like caveman technology imported to today, then that's on the head coach just as much as the offensive coordinator.ToddHaleysNineIron wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 7:33 pmThe biggest strike to me, is a practice squad guy who talked about a complete lack of detail not only in the Steelers playbook (in comparison to the one he had at Green Bay), but also a lack of detail or knowledge when asking coaches about that detail

Cetainly... but we always assume the best... its entirely possible that Tomlin isn't the X's and O's guy he's said to be... he did tell Najee that it wasn't necessary to go over tape with him. Why not? Below him? or he's not the guy for it?CKSteeler wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 7:37 pmI'd contend till the day that I die that Mike Tomlin signed off on all that. Now that's going too far. Everyone knows pumpkin pie should be eaten 25% pie, 75% whipped cream.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

With the same idiot cool shades in charge, noting will change... Enjoy shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic!
You mean our first ballot HOF HC who we routinely take for granted?Baltostiller wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 8:17 pmWith the same idiot cool shades in charge, noting will change... Enjoy shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic!
The guy whose coaching tree litters other coaching staffs with incredible talent?
The guy who is the only HC in the league to employ “time pressure” on his opponents?
The guy who hasn’t won a playoff game in almost 7 years? (1/15/17)
That guy?

I don’t think using points scored is cherry picking but it’s ok if you disagree.

Well if you feel the bend but don’t break style of defense we play is good, we definitely don’t agree.
In recent weeks, see end of GB game…they almost let Love drive the field in 59 seconds
And last week, let a fucking rookie in his first start drive for the game winning FG
But yeah…Austin is crushing it

You’re really complaining about games in which the defense gave up 19 and 13 points? Despite missing critical players and getting no help from the offense whatsoever. Defense is not the problem.Jizz Mop wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 9:21 pmWell if you feel the bend but don’t break style of defense we play is good, we definitely don’t agree.Smashmouth21 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 9:17 pmI don’t think using points scored is cherry picking but it’s ok if you disagree.

Most are middling numbers.
Granted, the PIT O barely gives them a break and Minkah has been out.

“We’ve got to write that story. We’ve got enough talent, we’ve got enough schematics to do big, big things. When I say big things, I’m talking about historic things.”
Where did I say “it’s the problem?”
You said Austin is doing a good job.
I disagree.
And the last two QBs we faced are awesome right?
How about what Purdy and Stroud did to this defense?
