Our guy Aaron Rodgers

Post by cyberlaz » Mon Sep 08, 2025 2:01 am

So how many games like today will it take before Rodgers is one of us?

I know there is a fans on the fence out there about him. The Jets embraced him and Steeler fans I think have given him a lukewarm welcoming. When does that change?

Jones will get him killed before it happens.
Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 81 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.

There's a warped and political media narrative surrounding Rodgers. It's nonsense. I have nothing against him, I'd actually like to see him succeed.

Rodgers will be the only thing remotely interesting about this team by the middle of the season, but I have zero emotional investment in his arc here. I mean, at this stage of my life and given the state of the team I don't have much emotional investment in the game in general, but Rodgers is just a guy who will be here for one disappointing season and be gone.

He may have more left in the tank than I thought, but he's over 40 and playing behind a mediocre and poorly coached OL with no ground game.

So I'm a "fan" sitting here watching what amounts to a hired gun HOF'er try to end his career on a high note. It's interesting theater as someone with interest in the sport, but he's never going to be "our" guy given where he is in his career.

Im waiting for when he comes to the sideline and goes off for whatever reason. Guessing it will be about the horrible play of Broaderick Jones.

This team has to be run by a veteran QB. The idiots running it built it around Ben, who would also run the team and make decisions. The head coach, Coach Mike, needs that person to do his work for him.

Thank you Aaron for making a Steelers' game entertaining again (hopefully more where that came from).

No golf, no driving range, or driveway basketball for me yesterday (but ate a whole bag of Ruffles after wings DOH!)

If anyone should be "holding in" it's RoDgers (Go away Scam and take your dopey little brother with you).

$13 mil won't be nearly enough to deal with our turnstile LT (Wait til we play Myles Garrett OMG).

Not sure what else the guy has to do to win people over. He balled out all day with a turnstile Oline and no running game...at 41 years old against a really good Jets front. I mean, he made Calvin Austin 3 look like a pro-bowler in one game.

Kind of a shame that the FO and Tomlin thought Jones was an acceptable solution at LT. I'm also really bummed that Caleb Johnson wasn't more ready to play as a rookie. I want to like him and he does have good speed, but seems to lack elusiveness and hasn't adjusted to the speed of the game yet.

I pretty much feel the same way. He’s never going to be a Steeler. He will always be a Packer. His legacy as a Steeler will be essentially a footnote… unless a miracle occurs and the Steelers win a Super Bowl with him. But all that said if he continues to play well and has a great year at least 2025 can be an entertaining season. I’m not such a miserable fuck as to root against the team. I want to be entertained even if that means the team ultimately isn’t progressing to what needs to happen for the franchise to become a truly formidable championship contender. A reset/rebuild needs to happen eventually. But I can wait on that and embrace Rodgers for the time he is here.

He made throws with regularity that I haven't seen since mid-2010s Ben.

Will it last? Who knows, but he's definitely still got it at 41.

I think Tomlin/Smith will not put the handcuffs on him, but let him run the show.

I was quite impressed with Rodgers yesterday, but it's Week 1 vs a sorry Jets team.

Let's revisit in Week 7 and see if his arm is just as spry as we saw yesterday. I think the grind of a season is going to see some drop off with his arm pop

That Jets Defensive front 4 has nice pedigree............
3 of the 4 are 1st round picks.

Troy Faut had 55 snaps a year ago in week one..........
somewhat of a reboot on his first NFL start yesterday.

Head spinning Broderick first ever start at LT? I do not recall if he had any LT snaps in NFL game?
Pretty quick player across from him......tuff match up.
I am not excusing him or his performance.
Very disappointing after looking pretty good his first part of rookie season.

I believe we are a bottom 5 coaching staff and that a MM or top tier OL coach will not have these guys trending down.
Its so tuff watching a game like Ravens and Bills......and seeing their play calling, their run success.....and shake my head.
I watch the schemes, the movement, pulling, and trapping, and creation of lanes with scheme and play calling. Its art, a symphony.

And then we have US.
It's been a half a decade of slop and slather. Running into the backs of OL. Very little running room. Backs picking wrong holes,
Little movement, not enough pulling, not enough traps to give guys the guys better angles, element of surprise, a chance to punish the guy not expecting it, etc. Predictable run plays out of predictable run sets.

My sig quote below sums up the Steelers run game and how difficult it becomes for players to progress in this offense.......especially once they become training and ingrained in the system. It is exactly why guys look good and promising early and then regress. ( Benton and Broderick to name two )

Lets see what week 2 at home brings. I most likely will be in person for a this game as well.
Tuff getting replays at stadium.

Wondering if NFL network will replay game.

Ya pretty much this. Unless this team does big things he’ll never really be a “Steeler”.

I’m cool with him though. It’s a shame we don’t have a capable LT to protect his old ass though. Not quite as bad as putting Kendrick Green in at C for old Ben but still bad.

And the bolded is exactly why he gets bad press. Cant speak out against all-mighty Big pharma and big govmint.

It’s also the pathetic (and very obvious) reason he didn’t earn the highly coveted “Door Slammer” award yesterday.

Without him, nobody gets mentioned. Great debut for AR.

Rodgers seems like a gigantic douche who thinks he is the smartest guy in the room at all times.

Right now, he is putting his best foot forward in the new environment. There has been no adversity yet, so it is still the honeymoon period.

Being a winner will bring PGH fans around. As long as Rodgers plays well and the team wins the fans will love him.

It does not matter to me how he is as a person, I care about his on-field performance.

Lets see how things go when the honeymoon period is over. He seems to have left a sour taste with the GB organization and the Jets organization.

Excellent thoughts and I agree.

And you know, should A-Rod have a bad game, STD will start countless threads, trashing A-Rod and telling us he's cooked.

Totally, predictable.

Stosh, Steelers have only lost once when I was in attendance––and that took Earl Campbell having the greatest night a RB even had against the Steel Curtain defense.

I've seen half of the game on rewind (the Jets stadium crew played so few replays after the 1st Q it was maddening) and Broderick Jones was as bad on tape as he seemed in person. In general the Steelers offense looks slow outside of DK & CA3 and the Steelers defense looks weak on the DL and slow in the secondary. That was my in-person assessment.

Rodgers looked great and accurate--but I wonder if this fresh, beginning of the season version of his arm and legs is going to look like this in week 8 or week 15 (or week 3, if Broderick Jones keeps starting).

The Jets have a good D and Secondary

Rodgers played extraordinarily well when you consider its his first game in this scheme, on the road, hostile crowd and a good Defense.

Plus he’s coming back from a rough couple of years.

I try to separate peoples personal opinions and views from their jobs.

Rodgers, for now, gives a damn good reason to tune in. 6 months ago I was debating watching another game with Tomlin. For me its all upside right now.

(But apparently I’m also a “Dolt”, so take this all with a grain of salt). 😂

Last time Steelers scored a TD on their opening drive of the season was 2008, talk about easing in. Pretty impressive considering Rodgers and DK played zero snaps in preseason.

A-Rod is one of the greatest off platform throwers of his generation, and probably ever. He doesn't move as well as he did 10 years ago, but the TD to Skowronek was a perfect example of his ability to contort his body and still deliver.

And wow, he throws an incredibly catchable ball - a very underrated quality in a QB. A few of the passes to CAIII were right in the strike zone. Nose down, easy to get the hands on and receive.

Yes, Rodgers has still got "it."

I think it’s fair to say Fields played outstanding and had an overall better individual game than Rodgers. But for PFF to rank this as the 26th best QB performance of the day is absolutely ridiculous.

Fucking A, brother! He's a Steeler now. I'm behind him 100% like I was Russell Wilson (and Justin Fields for that matter) last year. I look at it this way. He owes a Super Bowl victory for XLV. Will he give it to us? Who knows? He's far from being the biggest problem the Steelers have. Tomlin and the D deserve far more scorn that AaRod does at the moment.

Hatred of Rodgers for making a stand against a mandatory experimental vaccine is simply reactionary and not liberal at all. Especially after he was vindicated and proven correct as young healthy athletes were never at risk.

I know most of you grew up in an era when sticking it to the man who was wrong and who was making you do wrong things was considered cool and righteous. What happened?

In any case, his arm talent and vision are elite.

And fuck Ryan Clark.
The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.

I admittedly, get easily excited about Steeler football, would never root for them to lose, etc. Being optimistic, I'm hopeful that Rodgers enjoys his Pittsburgh experience so much that he's back next year as well. I believe he said something recently indicating this might be a possibility.

So yeah, he's our guy, Jalen Ramsey is our guy, DK Metcalf is our guy!!

And what did Ryan Clark say?

In general the Steelers offense looks slow outside of DK & CA3 and the Steelers defense looks weak on the DL and slow in the secondary. That was my in-person assessment.

Rodgers looked great and accurate--but I wonder if this fresh, beginning of the season version of his arm and legs is going to look like this in week 8 or week 15 (or week 3, if Broderick Jones keeps starting).
I was also at that MNF game you referenced, B2B. As I recall there were a couple questionable calls in that game as well, though none as egregious as the call against us in a MNF game in Houston in 79, hosing us out of an onsides kick recovery. Campbell never really looked very good v the Steel Curtain in the games that mattered most.

I am also cool with Rodgers. No, he will never be a legendary Steeler unless by some miracle we win a SB with him, then it will be more than just a footnote in history. Loved the way he played Sunday, and I believe he will keep the keys to the O as long as he keeps playing like that. I have serious concerns about our OL, run defense, and RB room, as well as what appears to be a lack of creativity and discernment on the part of the coaching staff.
Which is why I am not overly optimistic about a championship, but if Rodgers happens to look like this in week 9 or 15, we will definitely be on board for a playoff appearance and possibly a playoff win depending on match ups. I knew I would be more entertained this season with Rodgers than I have been since Ben hung them up.

Though not overly optimistic about a deep playoff run, I will still root like hell for it every week especially if we keep piling up the Ws. Here we go, Steelers!!
