It’s very fitting this is the play Kenny Pickett got hurt on. Never came off his primary read. Had Calvin Austin uncovered WIDE THE FUCK OPEN for a walk in TD. Decides to run instead. Broke his freakin ankle. But hey, it was 3-3 when he went out.

But Perch, it was a really impressive 3 points.

Kenny can't read the field, has spotty accuracy, doesn't have a great arm, and can't really run it.Steelperch wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 2:36 amIt’s very fitting this is the play Kenny Pickett got hurt on. Other than that, he's doing okay.

Can't watch and root for losses but as I sit here now, best scenario is lose out and either trade or fire Tomlin. Second best is force him to fire his whole staff (which hopefully makes him quit) and have Khan in on who they replace them with. No Tomlin buddies to be interviewed. Let's hope something positive comes out of this.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

Nice to know we'll be "less boring." Personally, I found none of the Steelers 7 one score wins this season to be boring
Nice example of why we’ve been chirping about his lack of TDs.
Not because we don’t like running TDs too. Duh.
But because a 1st round pick needs to make these reads and throws.
Had he, he wouldn’t be out with a busted ankle and we would have had more points on the board.

Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 84 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.
How Calvin Austin is not his primary read pre-snap I will never know.Steelperch wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 2:36 amIt’s very fitting this is the play Kenny Pickett got hurt on. The Cards are in obvious zone and assuming Kenny knows the routes that will be run, it is clear as crystal before the snap that any defenders that can get to Austin will be run off by receivers coming into their space.
The route was open from jump.

Does he actually know how to play the position?
It seems he has difficulty.
What is that QB coach doing? This is the result?

This is the exact type of play I see other teams run around the league every week and am jealous of. Receiver schemed wide open vs a zone. Easy dump off and score. Kenny never looked at him, had no reason to run the ball. This is a weekly occurrence with a Kenny in the redzone, they actually call a good play and have somebody wide the hell open, he never even looks at them. The guy is 25 and racking up overtime hours in his cubicle. No reason he shouldn’t be locating the right receivers by now.jeemie wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 2:43 amHow Calvin Austin is not his primary read pre-snap I will never know.Steelperch wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 2:36 amIt’s very fitting this is the play Kenny Pickett got hurt on. • Games with passer rating higher than 100: 1
• Games with more than 300 yards passing: 1
• Games in which he’s left with an injury: 4

Former Steelers Olinemen dumping on Pickett’s inability to identify a blitz. Is he sleeping in that cubicle or what?

I go back to that story of Najee asking Coach for help and Tomlin blowing him off.
If that's how he treated Najee, he treated Kenny the same way.
Coach Mike isn't exactly the guy to develop talent. Figuring out how to get Kenny to even a backup level will take someone who was a QB and knows how to play the position.
I don't see the team doing that soon.

Lose out.
Fire the entire offensive staff. Khan/Weidl get authority from Rooney to bring in outside coaches and make hires outside of Tomlin, pushing Mike to consider retirement or moving on after 2024.
Scout QBs like a motherfucker.
Trade what picks you need to, including any player as needed to be included to get the QB you need.
Bring in a new WR. Trade Najee after declining his fifth year, start Jaylen Warren, sign a bruiser RB in FA.
Then hope Burrow, Watson, and Jackson all get hurt.

My question is still, is that because of how he's coached or not coached? I don't know. I do know that I don't trust this coaching staff coaching up anyone. Kendrick Green, Kelvin Dotson, Robert Spillane...just from last season then look at how often our #1 and #2 receivers have miscommunications, turn the wrong way, stop, give up or just don't run routes/block when they're supposed to. Even if he's not already fucked up by this coaching staff, his inability to stay healthy has me most concerned. He's missing a lot without really taking a beating. Not a good sign for the future.jeemie wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 2:53 amWhat’s especially sad about this is I think Kenny may have actually looked that way for a split second.Steelperch wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 2:49 amThis is the exact type of play I see other teams run around the league every week and am jealous of. I think a lot of it depends on who declares and who is realistically available. B2B and others can better respond to that, I don't follow the college game that closely. Can't imagine Williams or Maye would be available. Jayden Daniels looks intriguing.
I've got to admit, Penix (though over-aged like Kenny, and having a bad injury histor) is pretty interesting as well. I think he's more of a late first/early day 2 guy though.
