That sets a franchise back another 3-5 years.
Please draft up Tomlin extension papers IMMEDIATELY
I've said it before. Tomlin inherited the absolute best possible team any coach could hope for in any sport. Without that, he's done in this league as a coach after 5-6 years and a couple of teams.
And he's going to leave an absolute dumpster fire for the next coach. Not a single assistant worth a damn (maybe Danny). And a handful of players, at best, worth trying to build a core and culture around.
Exactly. I don’t think people really understand how ugly it will be when he leaves. He’s left the cupboard bare and he’s destroyed so much of the culture of the team. It’s no longer a destination team, unless you are on your way out of the league and are looking for one more big check. It’s not a winner. It’s a joke. Still, he MUST go. It’s time for a complete reboot.
Sort of reminds me of the stories I’ve read when Noll was hired. He came in and took a hard look at the organization and stripped it to the studs and rebuilt. It only took Jibbs and a terrified Rooney to destroy what Noll built and Cowher continued.
I hope the next coach is like Noll, and comes in with a plan. A real plan, and starts dismantling this team. There will be a lot of coaching retirements when Jibbs goes, because no one is hiring anyone from this staff. He can then start removing a lot of these players like Baby Heyward, who have no business in the NFL, and others, like Watt, who can put up stats in the regular season with the best of them, but disappears every post-season like a fart in the wind.
I can’t believe how bad this organization has become.
The one silver lining? I’m hopeful that after Jibbs goes, he is arrogant enough to think he can succeed somewhere else and he goes there. He will never get a situation like the one he walked into in Pittsburgh and his Canton dreams may actually die. At this point, he is a cross between Barry Switzer and Marvin Lewis.
