Tomlin is gone - Official!
Re: Tomlin is gone - Official!
I dont know what to do with my life now.
"I'm institutionalized, man," he joked. "I gotta have it. I just love the challenges week in and week out that this job provides: the growth in it, the collective growth, the individual growth."
I think that is honestly very likely. I hope so, anyway. I had a feeling for the first time Rooney was antsy and impatient during the season. I think he was sold a bill of goods by Tomlin about how good this team would be with this guy or that guy and he had Rooney paying out the nose for all these players who did not come through. It may have been about mismanagement such as that. Hard to tell and no one will ever know most likely.jeemie wrote: ↑Tue Jan 13, 2026 8:09 pmThe only thing that will make me happier is if it leaks out that art II was suggesting behind the scenes that Tomlin step away, like Dan did with Noll, and like when Art challenged Cowher after 2004.
That would show there's something still going on upstairs in Art's brain.
I wish Mike and his family nothing but the best. I see him as a distant 3rd to Noll and Cowher, and I would not advocate him as a HOF coach. His best years were his first 4 when he had a solid team of veteran players still in their prime and a stellar coaching staff. Once that fell apart in year 5, things went downhill. He had 15 years to rebuild the team into a champion and had a marquee QB for much of it, yet he was never able to do so effectively. The defense was never as good as it was in 2010, and the offense has never been as good as it was since 2018. Wish him well. God bless.

The Steelers will want to at least try to pick someone who could stick around for 15 years to continue their "only 4 coaches im 60+ years " narrative. With that in mind, I expect someone no older than their mid 40s. I was surprised to see that Flores is only 44 so he is a definite possibility, especially with having spent a year here recently.sinceiwas4 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 13, 2026 7:22 pmflores seems likely for art 2 to choose. if he gets good oc i guess it could workbradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Tue Jan 13, 2026 7:16 pmor Grant Udinski.
Or, hell, Curt Cignetti
But I believe Brian Flores is the frontrunner right now.

This better not be an early April Fools joke from the Steelers organization.

Rumor is the Steelers said they would withhold the Option year and Tomlin walked. If so, high hopes for Danny M Rooney, who I hear is already up to 2nd to top of the heap in the org.

Vikings D was on fire towards back end of the season. However, the Miami thing worries me. It wasn't as clear cut as Flores getting a raw deal. Fair few players and folks in Fins org did not have good things to say about Flores. Of course solid chance that is petty BS but still a concern.Stillerz Bar wrote: ↑Tue Jan 13, 2026 8:33 pmThe Steelers will want to at least try to pick someone who could stick around for 15 years to continue their "only 4 coaches im 60+ years " narrative. It is the Ravens. If PS win, I don't give a toss what Tomlin or any HC does.jeemie wrote: ↑Tue Jan 13, 2026 8:39 pmRavens' owner Steve Bisciotti upon hearing the news.

I am going to have to make changes. Ketones and nonstop Tomlin hate energized me like rocket fuel.

I think the real difference this year was hosting the draft. Neither the Steelers nor the NFL could afford to have that spectacle sullied by "Fire Tomlin" chants.
It actually wouldn't surprise me if Roger called Art this morning and said "Don't screw up the draft party - fix it and i don't care how"

a decade of bizarre history tends to confuse and delude, but that was always the most likely and sensible outcome. No way was he getting the option and Rooney knew he wouldnt lame duck coachbradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Tue Jan 13, 2026 8:35 pmRumor is the Steelers said they would withhold the Option year and Tomlin walked. That’s because they are devastated. Looks like they will need to develop a taste for a new dick to suck now that Tomlin is gone.DumlinBumlinStumlin wrote: ↑Tue Jan 13, 2026 8:54 pmA couple of certain user accounts are absent from this thread

Speculation on first things first from Brew is that Lamar loves Tomlin, just saying...that would be a win win for Steeler fans if he goes to Baltimore.

This is spot on. The boos that would have rained down after a recently announced contract extension would have been insane. Yinzers would have gone nuts.
“Thoughts are a waste of time for me.” - Michael Pettaway Tomlin
I have no doubt Art 2 fired Tomlin. The way this unraveled with the Steelers rushing to get the press release out and then Tomlin scrambling to send his...this was not some coordinated good-bye where Tomlin resigned.
Art will say Tomlin resigned to shield himself from moronic backlash, but I think he a) either finally grew a pair or b) Danny Rooney convinced him to do the right thing. If Danny did do that, then please God may he take over as quickly as possible because that's great leadership.

FINALLY! I've been in a meeting all day. Phone keeps buzzing. Finally have time to look and everybody is telling me Tomlin is gone. Thank the football Gods! Hope is alive!!
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”
I don't hate Tomlin as much as the rest of you but glad he's leaving.
Time to rebuild and restore hope.

The OG Fire Tomlin guy or better the OG Never Should We Have Hired Tomlin guy was Ron.CKSteeler wrote: ↑Tue Jan 13, 2026 8:02 pmYea, no Tomlin would not have. Tomlin never would have designed an offense around Lamar in the first place and found way to use his legs like the Ravens did to deal with his growing pains to begin with. They didn't even really get much out of Fields as a runner last year. The creativity and balls Harbaugh showed in ditching Flacco to go with Lamar mid-season, redesigning their offense on the fly...Tomlin never would have done that. Period point blank. Harbaugh is highly flawed, but he was a far better guy to pair with Lamar.steelclan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 13, 2026 7:32 pmHarbaugh is more overrated than Tomlin. Harbaugh had a Sb roster for at least 4 years and figured out a myriad of ways to cock it up.
As much as I am happy to see Tomlin gone? If Tomlin had Lamar, he would have at very least made a SB. For one simple reason, Tomlin would've pounded teams with Henry in the playoffs.
I've legit waited for this for 12-13 years. I'm not the OG Fire Tomlin guy, but I'm one of the oldest.
This was my one reason for thinking it could actually be different this year...Stillerz Bar wrote: ↑Tue Jan 13, 2026 8:50 pmI think the real difference this year was hosting the draft. Neither the Steelers nor the NFL could afford to have that spectacle sullied by "Fire Tomlin" chants.
